    I was exactly like this when I first started. I was constantly wrestling to keep the bike up when I would come to a stop. The way I overcame it was to keep my eyes forward, even picking an object like a tree directly ahead of my stopping point, because when I looked around or down I would subconsciously steer slightly to where I was looking. When you stop with the front wheel not complete straight, it pulls the bike down in that direction. It takes concentration at first, but try this. You eventually don't need to do this and can freely look around with experience.

  • @JaretCampisi

    Yep you are exactly correct...you can see her looking around and then look down and to the left and then the bike followed.

He attended to the bike first because he saw his girl stand up on her own, a sign that she's okay. He had to get the bike upright because, come on. Nobody wants to see his bike fallen. I saw the part where she said she took the basic riders course in this vid or another. What I don't understand is it appears most people on YT that let a novice rider on their bike ends up giving pretty poor instruction. Maybe that was off camera. You can tell when they really can't grasp all that needs to be done. Those basic classes have a pretty good blueprint for teaching new riders that don't have a clue. 1.) Understand the components like clutch,brakes,etc. 2.) Let them simply work the clutch friction zone and walk a bit with it. 3.) Add in a little front brake during this basic practice. 4.) Add in pick up feet onto pegs and then stop. 5.) Focus on perfecting good stops, head up, smooth and controlled foot on the ground. Don't need a lot of speed. 6.) Short starts and stops. Get those basics down and you won't see so much panic on the novice rider of what they are doing. Step by step. Work on the basics for 30-60mins before cruzing through the parking lot add in turns. Help these new riders out by giving them far less to grasp at first. Friction zone and front brake while walking is the perfect starting point.

    A bike with high bars would be so much easier to manouver, espc at low speeds like this. The riding position on a rice rocket can be really awkward sometimes at very low speeds, or when turning abruptly in a car park or street. Bike can sort of jerk forward and tilt, and then its really hard to save it. Happened to me once when I first started riding an R1, did not fall off, but nearly did. It had an abrupt clutch and low bars pegs high riding position which did not make things easy.

  • @HeroRR
    @HeroRR7 жыл бұрын

    Good job not freaking out. A freak out after an accident is the single most effective way to scare a new rider into never riding again. Being supportive is always the way to go. It's always good to ride a worn out bike, or very small (ninja 250/grom) as first bike. Easier to keep up right for shorter riders, and if it falls, who cares it's already old. lol

    Too heavy for a beginner, safer for rider and bike to learn the basics on a smaller bike, ideally a 125. But a brand new 600 super Sports? Nah, I wouldn't let Father Christmas or Jesus ride mine, let alone my girlfriend who's just learning how to change gear lol

    • hrmmm what 160-180kg? Four pot twin calipers? 100+ BHP? Forward riding position and rearsets? Like i say, I wouldn't be letting anyone learn how to shift gears on mine. Let them pootle about on a CB125 for a day or two, till they can do all that stuff confidently, then.... maybe... they can try something bigger. That's how I'd do it, but honestly I wouldn't let anyone learn on my bike. I'm not sure if even let an experienced rider have a go, It's too precious to me.

Especially if it's a smaller lady, simple cheap and low powered road bike would be the ideal.

    Glad this couple is courteous to one another. Young love. Lesson for us all in long term relationships. Yep CB125s and the CL 70/100 were the best learner bikes ever. Definitely best for a 100 lb maiden. Too bad Honda and the others stopped selling those in America to push their three 250s as "starter bikes". Britain still has the 125 CB style because their licenses require it. The Grom here is no substitute as that is a stunt minibike for the Red Bull and Mtn Dew set. Thus a young lady is relegated to a used Rebel for starter experience. The new Rebel 300/500 even removes that option with the heavier payload, odd ride posture and too much starter HP. The big three really ought to start importing the 125 street bike class to the US again. The used ones are getting pretty old and have dodgy brakes. I guess most slightly built people go for big scooters now.

That was obviously the LIMIT of her lift weight. The 600 is far too heavy for her frame. There's a right bike for almost EVERYONE. We all need to learn to stick with our physical realities.

    I learned on a 600 myself also(with the same helmet too :)) and the exact same thing happened to me coming to my first stop, i stopped and dropped the bike and i accidentally revved it but thats just part of the learning process, better to do it stopped at a parking lot then on the road

    It is completely stupid idea to learn on a new bike and on public roads/parking etc.. How could you even think to do so? Jaret, there are many driving schools, let them teach your girlfriend.

    We actually did take the rider class and she did earn her license during the two day course. We've just been spending extra time before and after that class to make sure she is completely comfortable. I think my bike is actually just a little too much for her at this time so we are looking for something smaller for her to continue to learn on.

    frame sliders are only good for slow speed. if you crash the bike on high speed it would damage or bend something wherever it is connected. especially if the bolt is connected in the engine. just read on the forums,

    You reacted very calm and relaxed about the whole situation which I definitely commend you on. Also, points for being prepared by getting sliders on everything just incase. My one gripe here and you'll probably disagree; however it's still my opinion, you picked up your bike completely incorrectly and are teaching her bad habits by doing so and could have hurt yourself in the process. I can see you're in shape but that's no excuse for bad technique.
