That type of structure is a death trap, especially with that chimney right there. The big issue with "Hole in the Ground" habitats is they are perfect places for heavier than air gasses like CO2 to collect. If you were to build one of these it either needs to be on a hilltop or a steep hillside so you can make a positive flow vent at floor level to the outside to prevent the buildup of gasses inside the dugout. This chimney being so close is dangerous because a smoldering fire in an early morning stagnant air condition can result in the smoke cooling rapidly and drifting right back down into the hole. This would not end well. While the common defense to this is that "It is always windy here so this won't happen," My answer to that is - it only takes once.

The fireplace is outside of the actual house, and built in hard clay. No issues that I can see, as a retired firefighter.

@@AgnesMariaL Heavier than air gasses like CO2 accumulate in low points. The entire dwelling is a pit in the ground with no place for any gases that might accumulate to escape. The fireplace is just one potential source of gasses in a structure like this. Gases from rotting vegetation can come out of the soil as well. Heavier than air gasses are all toxic to humans and all flow like water, pooling in low areas. As a firefighter you should be aware of the danger of bad air in enclosed spaces and pits without proper ventilation, especially in low points. We have labor laws in most developed nations that regulate the depth of pits for workers without active ventilation to keep workers from walking into a pit full of a toxic gas and passing out. Even a food cellar can become deadly if not ventilated. Mine explorers can kick up CO2 just by walking through stagnant water on the ground. The air being okay on their way in and then the released CO2 rises high enough as they descend that they are overcome and never get out again.

@@socket_error1000 I do not disagree. However, she only sealed the roof, and left the sides of the building as initially constructed, with gaps between all the logs. The likelihood of any gases from the fireplace entering the hut is near zero to begin with, unless an unfavorable strong wind happens to blow through, but the structure itself, being unsealed aside from the roof and clay foundation, allows for airflow/ventilation.

@@AgnesMariaL It is a pit in the ground. It does not matter if there are holes in the roof or wall if the entire thing is under ground level. Heavier than air gasses can still collect in the pit. This is basic health and safety and the danger of pits would have been something you should have been taught as a firefighter. It is a serious risk to first responders as more than one would-be-rescuer has seen an unconscious person in a ditch or pit and jumped in to help them only to become a victim themselves.

@@socket_error1000 Sure, it's a "pit in the ground", but only partially so. Not to mention that it's in the middle of a CO2-sucking jungle. I'm guessing that you're from a first-world "educated" background, but this girl is otherwise, and my impression from all the builds that I've seen of hers is that she knows her stuff!

I'm pretty sure that this is in Vietnam. That soil has a unique composition, and "dugouts" are rather common. Once you get about a foot into the earth, it's softer and easier to dig out. This is done during the dry season. One thing? Pick your spot for a dug-out carefully...and make sure it isn't in an area that water runs through... ;-) for obvious reasons.

Amazing work. As for the CO2 comment, this is obviously a hot, humid climate where the fire would only be lit for cooking and thus only limited amounts of the gas would collect in the pit before it is reabsorbed into the air. Note also that the bed is raised well above the main floor, in a seperate structure that receives plenty of ventilation under the eaves of the roof and the pit itself is entirrely open to the sky.

Note that it has to be a warm and tropical climate. She's gone to a lot of trouble, to build her cook-stove outside her sleeping area. This is pretty much a giveaway, that she knows she won't need it to keep warm with. Rather the opposite. I think the whole reason she's building in the ground, is because it's cooler, and you can sleep better.

just imagine In America which is supposed to be home of the free and brave, supposed to be the land of opportunity one can and have been arrested for doing this very thing. In fact a military veteran was just arrested and sentenced to 30 years for doing this in New Jersey where he had lived completely off grid for 19 years...crafted a water recycler from a local river and used the same water with 0% pollutants to create energy , running water which was more clean and pure than anything else offered by the state. Some one explain this one that makes America sound great.

Fair play for building this. Can you imagine many women in the west doing such work? Let alone even know where to start? Can you imagine many of the woke males coming through now able to do this either? It’s not just the physical side of it but it’s the planning, problem solving and use of tools that would flummox most in the west. As a set builder (amongst other things) I’d take her on in a heartbeat over most in the UK.

Once heavy rainfall that hole in the ground will be a swimming pool...it's wonderfully made but not for rain I would think twice to built something like this 🤔

I enjoy watching your content, it gives me ideas for my future projects. I was just wondering, Are these locations your properties? because I'm not sure if I could do that to any random locations.

It would have taken her 5 years to build that structure with her "construction skills"... Amazing what camera edits and a hidden crew of laborers can do....

Jajaja 🤣

All very cool and I would like to offer a bit of advice based on my own experiences. You are very strong and when doing any physical work it is important to change your working arms and body stance if possible. Forgive me in advance please if you do, I just observed that you mostly use the right side of your body. Count your digs throws etc. In other words do 10 shovels or throws then change arms and stance for balanced and even use on your body. I didn't and ended up in emergency just because I didn't know to change arms and stance and didn't have the kind of supervisor that gave advice when I was young. You are young and powerful. Repetitive motion can cause early degenerative arthritis, so stay balanced and stay strong for life. Very enjoyable videos to watch and learn from and the viewers comments are also very interesting to read.
