GIRL SKATEBOARDS: 14 Things You Didn't Know About Girl (2020)
Спорт
SUBSCRIBE: kzread.info...
Let's take a closer look at Girl: a staple favourite for many, with a cult-like following unlike almost any other skateboard brand!
Girl was built around the idea of skateboarding for fun, and not taking life too seriously. Rick Howard and Mike Carroll had grown tired of the seriousness, and seriously short shelf life, of pro skateboarders, and wanted to imagine something new; this was at the time of Plan B's Virtual Reality film, when Carroll was just 17.
So, Rick and Mike, alongside Spike Jonze and Megan Baltimore, split off to create Girl. This infuriated Steve Rocco of World Industries, who in retaliation, created a brand called Bitch skateboards to mock them out.
With a stacked original team of Jeron Wilson, Sean Sheffey, Mike Carroll, Eric Koston, Rick Howard, Rick Mccrank, Brandon Biebel, Jeremy Rogers, Girl quickly became an iconic brand and team. Together, under Girl Films International, they filmed classics like Goldfish, Mouse, Yeah Right, Yes We Canada, Hard Euro Barge, Doll and many, many more; today, they post segments at Girl Headquarters, such as Crail Couch, where they catch up with pros through short interviews. Some members, such as Eric Koston, and Guy Mariano, have since left the time to start new brands, like Numbers.
Nowadays, they've since added to the team, with firepower like Sean Malto, Andrew Brophy, and Mike Mo Capaldi; and even more recently adding Sean Bannerot, Niels Bennett, Griffin Gass, Manchild, and ironically, their actual first girl team rider, Breana Geering.
Spike Jonze has been a significant part of what has made Girl special, with his background in Hollywood. This has led to appearances of celebrities such as Owen Wilson, Will Arnett, and Jack Black making appearances.

Yeah right since the day I bought it was one of the best. Great skate trip with friends, bought the vhs, watched it i was just blown away and finally got laid. Owen Wilsons sketch was definitely a wtf moment and took me a minute to realize it was koston. Eric was my favorite at the time but that video is so staked with great parts and as I kid I was so motivated to go skate. Yeah right was added to menikmati and the reason that played daily that summer.

Hell yea! That's some good nostalgia right there! I remeber when it came out seeing Koston's ender and having to rewind it and rewatch it multiple times cause a tre flip noseblunt wasn't possible on a handrail.

My buddy Kyle passed away last year from muscular dystrophy, and had been in a wheelchair the entire time I knew him. Never stopped him from telling me all about the things he used to do when he could still skate, and he always made a point of telling me that he used to skate Girl boards. I just got into skating this year, and figured the it was only right if I went with Girl for my first deck, as an homage. Feels like I’m with him every time I ride

My favorite thing about Girl is me and my friends sneaking out very late at night and we meet at my one friends house who own the Yeah Right video. We will always skip to the magic skateboard scene to get pumped and then we would head out to hit the classic small town street spots. Sometimes not coming home until the sun start coming up right before we had to go to school. Seriously some of the best times in my life to when I see clips from Yeah Right I get kind of emotional.

Fun story about Girl. My high-school wood shops teacher built us a steam box and we started making our own skateboards as projects. I carved out a mold of the Colin McKay deck I was riding at the time because I loved the shape. We laminated pieces of Maple together, put them in the steam box for a few hours, then clamped them to my mold so they kept the shape. Cut them out on a bandsaw, routered them. It was awesome when you were a poor high schooler to have free decks. I kept one unridden that I painted the RDS logo on.

I’m 36 and I haven’t skated since I was 19. Did a lot of research finding a board I liked. Finally landed on a girl board. Guess you can say what’s already been said. I skate like a girl. Much love to the brand, teammates and all the hard work it takes to get to where they are. May we all skate like GIRLS.

Seeing Yeah Right for the first time, when it first came out, those skits were amazingly fun, we were loving skateboarding so much back then
You nailed it. Girl took out World Industries. It is an interesting park skateboard history because girl did to World what World did to the big 5 of the 80s. Girl has always had a cool vibe. Even when I wasn't skating I knew who Girl was. So many legends have skated for Girl. Rick Mccrank has done some cool TV shows. His Abandon show was great. (Mark Johnson's part was by far the best part in Fully Flared. Arguably the best part ever.) Love all the work you put into these.

The Girl chocolate demo at manning skate park in perth on election day 2004 is still the best demo of alltime with BA MJ Devine Mike Carroll and koston all absolutely killing the park for a solid two hours. Footage can be seen on the " what tour " vid. Carroll was snapping boards and RUNNING to the van to get another. A lot of people still think this was the best day perth skating ever had. And respect for being good blokes that counts too.

@subcomandante marcos it really was a special day. Koston slammed a beer in the middle not cause he's pissdrunk but because he was so hot and sweaty from rolling hard for an hour. Seeing Brian Anderson live was super impressive. Speed power and Grace. People chanting " all day everyday Calloway! While Devine was getting busy. The Girl team were here for a few weeks and left a really good impression. Lots of people were riding girl boards cause they were amped on seeing them live.

Back in high school in 1995 I had a copy of goldfish. I walked by an empty classroom at lunchtime and noticed the AV cart, you know with the old CRT strapped down with a VHS player all ready for the next class who was going to watch some educational video. So I popped in Goldfish and a few friends and I started watching. People were walking by and wondering what we were doing in there and started to watch, then the keeners started filing in ahead of the bell, soon there was like 15 or 20 kids watching the vid and everyone was digging the skating and the music. Even the vice principal who was teaching the next class was into it and let us watch for a few more minutes before kicking us out.

My favorite memory is a personal one. Back in 06 I went to a Girl/Chocolate demo in Valencia with some of my best friends and met some of the pros then afterwards we went to Sylmar High and skated all day. Just this time in my life I miss so much. Not a care in the world and no responsibilities. Just family, friends and my skateboard.
I had the koston chair board, definitely one of my favorites over the years.
Iv been hooked on these 14 things you dont know videos
When i got my first paycheck at 14 yeats old, my mom took me to our local shop to buy my very first complete ever. I spent an hour picking out my dream set up, spitfires, indys, and the GIRL JOVONTAE TURNER DECK. Ive literally the last 36 hours trying to find that deck with no luck. I remember it was part or a 3 or 4 deck "set" where each deck had 3 colors like tail was green, middle yellot or something, and im pretty sure his nose was red. They all had a different bird drawn lkinda like woody wood pecker. Sorry for rambling, but i want to replace it or get all of tbem, but cant evem find a hint of a pick of them. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!LOL. THANX
My favorite memory is the bathroom logo. Too funny.
man i love these videos cuz rick mccrank also lives in van and i met him a million times too as well as sluggo

In 1996 I got a purple board MikeCarrol trolley car graphic. I loved that deck, wish I could have it back

I didn't know spike jones had a hand so many other movies.

I think my favorite thing about Girl Skateboards is the gear that they put out. I catch a lot of eyes with them, especially my Cory Kennedy "Buck Off" shirt that I have. But I wish that they would bring back 4 Star! I still have a lot of 4 Star gear, but it is a great brand with the ultimate logo! But Girl, Chocolate, 4 Star, and Lakai is all I wear and that bis what I buy for my kids and grandkids as well.
