Here's how to play a simple bossa nova rhythm on your ukulele.
If you're learning Girl From Ipanema along with me, this is your strumming how to! You can keep it simple by doing the first pattern, plucking all strings together, or you can try out the second rhythm with the added bass note pattern. A note about time feel:
We often play in 4/4 time, and you can think and count a bossa nova rhythm in 4/4/, however I find that it is helpful to play it in a big 2 feel. The 2/2 time shown in this video means that there are 2 beats per measure, and the half note gets the beat. It is also known as cut time, and it can be easier to read the rhythms this way, instead of reading 16th notes.
