Aaliyah & Ginuwine with Missy & Static over Timbaland production was just MAGIC ! its the formula Drake & 40 approached which inspired this generation of r&b singers like Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker, Brent Faiyez, 6lack, etc. They were clearly 20 years ahead of they time. One In A Million, The Bachelor/100%, & Supra Dupa Fly changed R&B. Gave the cool-alternative-urban creatives an avenue, where Mary & RKelly was giving direction for Hip Hop Soul and Badu & D'Angelo with Neo Soul movement.

It was rumored back in the day around Aaliyah's passing that she wanted to change directions with producers, artists, leave blackground records and sign with Jay-Z' and Damon Dash's Rocafella records. I think Timbaland, Missy and Ginuwine wasn't feelin it and that's what they fell out with Aaliyah over.

Kee Not true at all. You see how when Pac died Jay z automatically became famous. Everyone who was around back in the 90s knows that if he had never got killed jay z would still be a struggling artist. Beyoncé had a couple of hits back in 2001 when Aaliyah was alive, but Aaliyah was bigger than her. She was starring in movies and she had the hottest single out with rock the boat. Aaliyah was and still is the Queen. Beyoncé sold her soul for her position. I’m not discrediting her talent but real ones know the truth.
@dawb86
4 жыл бұрын
@@shenyaeturner842 I don't get into all that "sold your soul" stuff when talking about these artists but I do look at things from a political standpoint in the industry. Most people don't realize we only ever really hear about the same 15-20 hip hop/R&B artists on the radio/TV 85% of the time and there's only two or three R&B artists they push real hard because they don't want the genre taking over again like the Motown days. In those times, the "it" girls were Aaliyah, Ashanti and MAYBE Beyonce in third, plus this teenager that played piano from NYC was on her way in. When Aaliyah passed, it was Ashanti, Beyonce and Alicia. Then Ashanti career started suffering and it was really only two that ever got all the push. For a while it was Beyonce and Alicia, then it became B and Rihanna. The general public just sees it as she's "better" than the other girls, that's why the beehive acts the way they do but in reality, it's the industry's strategy. Point I'm making is Beyonce might've still become real big but Aaliyah was already established and was the trailblazing artist. That last album of hers is STILL ahead of its time and sounds better than what 90% of the R&B starlets since have been able to accomplish.

I’m 26 years old and would very much be considered a millennial, and thankfully I was around to hear him at his peak as a young child. In Those Jeans rang from open car windows in the hood often, and BET was a staple of my age group coming up so I remember So Anxious and Differences. I later searched for his music as an adult and found out how much of a force he and Timbaland were. What an incredible duo. There is music that lasts within its time and is soon forgotten, and there is music that escapes beyond that captivity. The music that Ginuwine and those along side him created will be here forever and always.

The Aaliyah part is illuminating. I always wondered why Missy didn’t work on her self-titled album (“I care 4 u” doesn’t count, to me, since it was done in ‘96 (& rerecorded) ) and why Tim only did 3 songs & they were all done at the last minute. I knew Tim was beefing/negotiating w/ Blackground and figured that was why, but now this makes me wonder if Aaliyah falling out with her crew was the reason for Missy’s absence & Tim’s barely making an appearance. That’s interesting. I’d love to know why, but that’s their business.
