    @Alin Barash My point Alin, is that if you are framing things with tigers and syndromes and accusations, you are not in a headspace to compromise (unless its on your own defacto terms), meaning that mindset is just as much a barrier. Step one is to stop seeing enemies. Since the final step is to lack preconditions, the whole tiger rant suggests how far we are from that mindset.

    I had the privilege and honor of meeting both Justices during my legal career. I served a Justice Scalia’a tour guide and escort for multiple visits to my city for private legal events. He and my father grew up in the same neighborhood only 3 blocks apart though he was 9 years my Dad’s senior, both from large, Italian families, both first generation Americans raised in strict Roman Catholic homes. When I was in law school I tended to side more with Justice Scalia’s decisions but as I matured in my career I came to appreciate Justice Ginsburg so much more than I had before, both as a person and as a jurist. She became my role model to become a judge myself. When I achieved my goal I sent her a note thanking her for her influence and received a personal note congratulating me in return. I miss her and Justice Scalia. They were good people and great legal minds.

    The system is broken. You see it with every decision that is to make. Take Germany for example: The judges of the German supreme court are only voted for a 6 year term and they have get two thrirds of the votes. That leads to judges who are accepted over most of the parties, because their are neutral and balanced and not part of an ideology. In the US the nomination for judges is just used as an instrument to gain power for decades and not for getting an actual balanced and fair jurisdiction. What is happening right now is the engdangerment and decline of a constituion that is simply outdated. Same with the voting system for presidency, senate and House.

  • @bigbaba1111

    @bigbaba1111

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@hazard4648 well, Germany has its own problems. One is: most of the parties in parliament agree on most of the important decisions and the difference between the parties is shrinking. The so called conservstives could easily be mistaken for the leftist green party. They agree on spending German tax payers money on corrupt southern European countries. They agree on the open border policy and the massive abuse of the asylum system. And they agree on their disastrous green deal which doubled the electricity price within fee years.

  • @hazard4648

    @hazard4648

    @@bigbaba1111 You lack political education, if you mistake the conservatives with the Greens. And the Green Deal is made by the EU, it has nothing to do with the federal legislation. But even there you have 2 parties right of the conservatives and at least 1 party left of the Greens. So there is a party for everyone. So I wouldnt call it a problem. In contrast to the USA, a country that is famous around the world for its divided society and people.

    I think that the party system should be phased out. I think that our government would run a lot better and more honestly if we had representatives who just had different political preferences, rather than party membership. Superpacs associated with partisanship and reps voting along party lines even if they disagree so they can stay in power fundamentally corrode our republic. I think that we could start by outlawing donations of very large size >$1,000,000 to a candidate by organizations or individuals with a clear political agenda

The wisdom and judicial knowledge they have is truly above partisan politics, and all humble, too! The only justice I find unfit for the role is Kavanaugh. Listening to his confirmation hearing and interviews is like listening to an arrogant college fraternity jock. Reading his decisions, especially next to other justices' writings especially the conservative ones, makes his look like a high school english essay! No wonder only Gorsuch joins him in writing his opinions. Most of the time, he joins someone else or writes opinions by himself 🤣

    Watching this now in 2024, makes me want to weep. What the hell happened to our country people. I don't understand. We've let politics determine family, friends, relationships. It's heartbreaking to see this one's great nation, who could look past our differences, and understand that at the end of the day, we might not agree on everything, but one thing we could always agree on was that we were proud to be American. I did 22 years in the army, I shed blood sweat and tears. My friends died, and now I look at our country, I can't even have a conversation about a disagreement politically, without being labeled. It's disgusting but most of all, it's heartbreaking.

    My best friend is MAGA all the way. I’m horrified by the nastiness, bullying, lying, nepotism and the lack of integrity. She “doesn’t care about that”. I don’t know how to bridge the gap because the common values I thought we shared fell by wayside overnight. Would you be able to offer any tips?

    Although they had their different opinions they had a strong relationship. It doesn't matter what you believe in or identifies as, what matters is creating kindness, love, equality, and unity. I'm a Democrat and I can see myself being friend with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Larry Hogan, Susan Collins, Abraham Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln, and Lisa Murkowski because they are kind and united people even though people would disagree with what they say. Put aside your differences to make good for our society. RBG and Scalia are the best example of different opinions and a strong relationship.
