@@gavinhenderson7250 the film does address Dahomey’s role in the slave trade as well as hints at human sacrifice, though significantly downplaying both, which is why it’s called historical fiction, a concept the original commenter appears to have no grasp of, at least that’s what I gather from their half baked failed snark comment. The movie actually happens at an interesting time in Dahomey’s history where Ghezo naively thinks he’ll be able to peddle palm oil instead of human cargo, but I think the film might embellish his moral conundrum with slavery, from everything I’ve read he was basically a warlord who wanted more power, but since the movie is overall about the Agojie, it takes liberties to weave the narrative around that group.

@@LeifSonOfRogaland so because you think people are incapable of doing their own research and are gullible, the filmmaker owes it to the audience, who by your standards is far too stupid to understand what historical fiction is or to be able to google “Dahomey” afterward that she therefore must tell the gods honest truth about Dahomey, narrative be damned? I’d hate to hear your take on Laurence of Arabia or Herzog’s Cobra Verde or just generally live in your world where apparently no one but you has the critical thinking skills to decipher fact from fiction or had the ability to draw accurate conclusions about this film. But by all means, continue doing your important work of condemning the filmmaker on behalf of us ignorant goons.
