I am from South Korea. There we, all Korean boys, must complete the military service. Anyway, from 2001 to 2003, while I was in the army I loved to listen to the music by Gin Blossoms, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Goo Goo Dolls, R.E.M., Collective Soul, Hootie and the Blowfish, Sister Hazel, Wallflowers... This song reminds me of the time of my youth and the 21 year-old soldier's solitary feeling. Thanks to those bands.

my dad is an artist and is always playing gin blossoms, collective soul, and other 80s 90s rock bands while painting. he and my mom broke up since i was young and i lived with him. he loves me so much and im so happy that he also introduced me to these amazing bands and artists. i love this band specifically, it will always remind me of the great bond i have w my dad.

Beautiful songs, give them a listen! I hope you're reminded of your song!

Absolutely. I’m 41, making me an old millennial, but my older Gen X sister is responsible for my musical taste. My first cassette tape hand me downs from her were some of the best ever recorded, including Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Deep Purple, The Doors, The Mammas and the Papas, but more importantly I think, a lot of the 90s stuff. Much of the Seattle scene, PJ, Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, etc but Gin Blossom’s New Miserable Experience is one of my most memorable records from that time period. I still listen to and love this record all these years later. It takes me back to a better time when I was just coming of age, the world still seemed ok, and I was just beginning to date and have those kind of experiences. This music is sacred to me.

I was at this concert when this video was being filmed. It was during a Boston radio station's birthday party called the River Rave (WBCN) in 1996 in Mansfield MA, at a place then called "Great Woods" now called the Xfinity Center. There were two stages, the main stage where Gin Blossoms, Lenny Kravitz, The Presidents of the United States of America, Patti Smith and Sonic Youth played. The second stage they set up in the woods that a few hundred people would wander over to, and that's where Everclear, Dishwalla, Tree, and my favorite....Pulp played, after they had just played Glastonbury a few months prior. Jarvis and the rest absolutely killed it, "Common People" is still one of my favs!
They don't make this kind of music anymore. This is a masterpiece.

I remember back in the day I idolize my older cousin so much because he plays this song so well every drinking sessions. He never had any music lessons and he just play by ear. How he plays this song sounds like just the original record. I used to tell him to teach me and he always tells me to learn it by myself because he urges me to become better at guitar playing.. Years passed by and I was able to play better than him and him not teaching me made me become a decent guitarist when I was in college. About 2 months ago he died of liver cirrhosis because of drinking a lot. We're not very close but I'll always remember him everytime I hear this song. Rest in peace cousin, one day we'll jam together in heaven and play this song with our other cousins.

It somehow gives me strength for some unknown reason.....maybe bcoz it makes me remember the good old fun happy days when i was in highschool. I was so strong back then so full of energy so full of positivity so reckless feeling so invincible......then as time goes by a lot of failures came that blew my character away bit by bit makin me a different person a weaker person.

This is about the one you could have been with if only the timing had been right but maybe it will be someday so you leave the door open "as long as it matters" and time passes "touch and see" and guess what, it was never really meant to be. But there's still that special feeling in your heart.
Beautiful song, both inspiring and heart-breaking. One of the virtues of this music video (as with others of the 90s) is that the filmography is fairly top notch. I'm not talking about the quality of technology per se, but rather the style and mood of the setting, the camera angles, and the way the video was shot. It has a distinct style that identifies with an era when at least some consideration was put into making a music video.

bata pa ako nung naririnig ko ito..ngayon alam ko na ang salitang pag ibig at pagmamahal..bilis ng panahon...pero pinapakinggan ko pa din mga kanta nila....
Turned to a teen in the mid-90s, at ang chorus nito . . . . Nakaka piyok ng boses. Ehem. Parang nagbi-binata lang. #andamingpinoy dito. Whoohooo

I can't remember how many times I bought the Congratulations I'm Sorry album since it always gets borrowed and never returned back in my college days. I'm older now with teenage kids and I still love this song....as long as it matters...
My son said, "Justin Bieber is the best!" And i said, "try to listen to this son." After a while...he said, i cant spell the name of dustin beaver anymore!!"...welcome to my world son!!

Such an under rated band.
This song remember me the Life is one, always be yourself... Always..
ganda sa ears..
I just saw the Gin Blossoms live last night, they were great. Robin (probably sarcastically) introduced this song with "I wrote this song when I was really sad. Then I sold 4 million records and the sadness went away"
The most beautiful song in my life.

Proud batang 90s born july10 1986
When I was younger in 1998 I remember running with my girl all afternoon around the countryside. When we're exhausted we would lay on the grass and I would simply pop up my earphones, plug it in my Sony Walkman and listen to "Congratulations I'm Sorry" cassette, fast forward to track 4 "As Long As It Matters". 2 years later my country girl and I broke up when I moved to the city and could no longer sustain long distance relationship due to my work schedules. But Gin Blossoms remains to be a favorite band of mine until now, reminding me of this song that used to be a love theme to be cherished for always.
Remembering the simpler times... *Sigh

Gin Blossoms you guys have been on heavy rotation in my homes since discovering you guys at age 12 in 1994. New Miserable Experience’s songs were the soundtrack to many a theatre audition. I will forever have Gin Blossoms on my playlist. Was so disappointed with the cancellation of the Savannah show in August! Hope to catch you again soon. It’s been far too long.

"I'll be all right as long as it matters, as long as you're here with me now" is my favorite part of the song. To love someone so much that they complete you, make you safe, and happy. What more do you need? ❤💯
On a spree on searching and listening to late 90s bands. Brings lots of good old memories from my childhood 😊

This song will never gets old! 2018!😍
This song reminds me of the girl in college who I became so closed with, we used to sing this song, she taught me how to play this on guitar, how I wish I had the courage to express how I really felt about her that time, it would've been so so sweet. I was 17 then, now 20 years later I would still think about her and that time whenever I hear this song.. I guess she owns this song now in my mind and in my heart.
This song still matters very much
One of the best songs ever! I wish musicians nowadays could create a song as good as this.
what a great song... as a guitarist I adore the tone of the the intertwined rhythm guitar parts. as a human I adore the simple but profoundly moving lyrics and melody.
