Gillette Skinguard Razor Review

Is the Gillette Skinguard men's razor worth it? And who is it for?
Do you suffer from razor bumps, razor burn, or any shaving related irritation? Well Gillette's answer for razor bumps is the 2-blade Gillette Skinguard Razor which includes Gillette's Skinguard Technology. But the question is does it work?

Right; It was driving me crazy with people saying that they were getting horrible shaves with the skinguard. The skinguard was just doing what it’s supposed to do-guard your skin by having the blue guards keep the blades, ever so slightly above your skin. I keep these on hand in case I start to bump up while shaving with a DE razor. I use the skinguard and treat the bumps until they clear up. By the way, check out Dr. Aloy and Breej shaving system. He’s the only Dermatologist who is correctly saying exactly what happens with Black skin with bumps, which is hair growing and curling beneath the skin creating bumps…There is no hair growing out the skin then curling over back into the skin- That’s wrong!! Dr. Aloy has created products that truly addresses what’s happening with our bump issues and the products WORK….Breej Bump Terminator…Great video!

Big thanks for checking out the video and sharing your thoughts! I’ve been using the Skinguard for about 2 months and it’s not bad at all. I think it lives up to its claim and is easier on the skin. I definitely think it’s worth trying if you experience razor bumps. And thanks for the tip on Dr. Aloy, I’m going to check ‘em out.

🤣 it’s funny you say that. I’m a Schick Quattro fan myself. I think it’s one of the best performing reasonable priced razors out there. I made a challenge video with a bunch of guys comparing razors and Schick won. The irony is I don’t like the Hydro nearly as much, which is Schick’s newer flagship razor. Big thanks for checking out the video and sharing your experience!

Excellent, informative video. I didn't realize how much the razor has increased in price over the years, while the cost of the carts has remained more stable. I like the Skinguard and find it a good choice for old men like me, with aged skin who shave every day. Back in my day, I started shaving in the mid-1960s, Gillette gave out free kits at colleges that included the brand new Gillette Techmatic and a can of Foamy shave cream. I also like the Harry's razor because although it has five blades, they are not as sharp as Gillette's and less likely (for me) to cause irritation. Interestingly, Proctor and Gamble own both Gillette and Bevel, a company that is aimed at Black men. Bevel offers a safety razor. Keep up the great work!

I moved from a cartridge razor to a safety razor a few years ago and I will never go back. I simply do not understand people that won't try DE safety razors. I got tired of the dragging, pulling, and clogging with carts. So, after some research I purchased the Henson AL13 mild, now I also have the AL 13 medium as well. The razor is 70$, but the blades are 9$ for 100 blades! I use a blade 5 times before I throw it away, so I get 500 shaves for 9$. The Henson is better than a cart in every way. It cuts through heavy growth with no clogging, it's smooth, no nicks or cuts, and offers a closer shave if you like. The Henson is perfect if you are transitioning from a cartridge razor. Do yourself a favor and get one.

to me doing a 3pass with gillette skinguard with the grain across the grain yielded me far superior results compared to a 1pass safety razor shave (muhle41, feather blade), i have tried going more passes with safety razor but i end up with 4-7 cuts and a ton of burn and abrasion. Skinguard is also the only razor ever that has allowed me to go against the grain without bleeding or iritation but i do get ingrown hairs from doing that, i dont regret investing in a shaving brush though those are fantastic for any shave

The price hikes is always interesting especially with inflation. But yeah not sure if you guys had to pay shipping back then but we do now. I had sensitive skin as a teen and this may have helped and also the dr said I had folliculitis aswell. I don’t have curly hair but my skin is sensitive. I do a 2 pass but I don’t put any pressure on the handle at all. If it gets bad I’ll try the Mach 3 and then this one to see if there’s a difference. Sometimes I get irritation on my neck a lot. I stopped buying cartridge razors because of the cost and went to a DE Safety razor and occasionally a straight edge razor. The cost per shave is no comparison but occasionally I cut myself or have a pimple or ingrown hair that is only aggravated by any razor I use and I shave every day. That's when the Gillette Skinguard comes out of the medicine cabinet. It shaves at skin level and glides over cuts and acne or just aggravated/irritated skin. I swear by it. FYI, the Skinguard 4 pack refills are $14.99 at Walmart but the King C. Gillette neck razor 4 pack refills are $8.98 as I post this. They are the exact same cartridge just branded differently. The price might go up like the Skinguard so stock up.

That should last you a year or more if you shave like me, 3 times a week. 60 bucks for something you use 100-120 times a year is not much. Goodness knows as men we spend more than that on bullcrap.
