The revolver used by the GIGN is a Manurhin MR73 .357 magnum. Specifically made for the GIGN. They trained, eat, sleep with it (120 rounds/day training) They are truly the master of those revolvers.

GIGN is a tactical police unit serving under the French gendarmerie (police), which in turn is one of two police forces that are both branches of the French armed forces (military). It works similarly to the German GSG9 (which is also under police jurisdiction, but unlike the GIGN not branched from the military) and has the same roots for its foundation (namely the Munich massacre in 1973) As for more direct military special forces, the French have the Commandos Marine (Commando d'Action Sous-Marine Hubert), who are pretty much equal to the US's Seal Team 6 in structure, training and role.

This made me tear up honestly. This was so accurate to the interviews of the GIGN operators who took part in this operation i saw in documentary. Everywhere wounded men, grenades exploding total chaos. The guy who got suprised by one terrorist and fell down the stairs and took his 2 comrades down with him had a saviour angel. He said his visor would've never stopped a round from an Ak, the bullet hit his pistol. The looks towards the muslim people by the wounded Operator at the end were without any hate or prejudice, just look. This was for me a sign to carry on and not let this kind of stuff that happened during the past years make chains in my spirit. Yes there is problems no doubt but we must stay open and nice to each other. Hate and rejection will only cause more of exactly that.

If this was any accurate stunt grenades would have been thrown into the cockpit and snipers would have been laying down suppressive fire into the cockpit even without clear targets and breach attempt would have been made to the cockpit through the front landing gear.

So thats why there is GIGN in counterstrike 1.6, they were so pro in real life

These other guys are saying SEALs, but the US Military doesn’t conduct operations on American soil. The FBI HRT functions on US Soil, US territories, and abroad, just as the GIGN, GSG-9, GIPN, SAS, and etc do.

I was so confused for an entire minute, thought I suddenly lost all hearing ability in French, really started to doubt my entire life, until I scrolled down and found out its dubbed in Thai. My life just flashed before my eyes.

I do have a question. Why did the GIGN use revolvers? I assume it is due to their lack of jamming and their accuracy, but during this time period they could have used a semi auto pistol as the main sidearm. Anyone have an idea? They chose a double action revolver, because a misfire could be cycled with another pull on the trigger. And instead of reloading the revolver, they just dropped it and pulled another pistol, while one of the others covered with their revolvers or submachineguns. Also, seeing as they used a .357, it could handle light body armor, an innovative idea at the time.

A CQB on this type of environnement is REALLY hard, plus the fact there is a lot of hostages and pilots in the cockpit so they can’t just blow it up or shoot like they want. This assault is a pure masterpiece of counter terrorism, no gign or hostages were killed (during the assault)

I watched the whole movie a few months ago, very good. The French do these well and so much better than the overly hyped Hollywood stuff.

Wish this was in english, sigh. From what I can see this scene was beautifully well done.

простая пострелушка. Спецназ зашел в самолет - никого не обезопасил как минимум, в прямом столкновении потеряли бойца дак они еще лезут. Снайпера в одной точке сидят, боятся промахнуться. Любая светошумовая, которая у них есть позволила бы обойтись меньшей кровью. Хотя бы тот же щит - намного лучше чем ничего, но ребята просто лбом решили потягаться с свинцом. Браво!

Ну это же фильм .Реальный GIGN ,Альфа, GSG-9 да и любые другие антитеррористические команды таких ошибок бы не совершили. На месте Национальной Жандармерии Франции я бы вообще на режиссера этой белиберды подал бы в суд.

@@Atelos69 хоть и реалии игры приближены к реальности, ключевое слово приближены. Это не короткометражка, а ахинея. Смотреть на лица волнующихся людей - это кто? Родственники? Может в зале сидели жены, мужья, дети тех людей? Кто им дал смотреть это в прямом эфире? Бандиты находились у мест летчиков - неужели стекла настолько затонированы, что тех не было видно для снайперов? В кратце, фильм возможно получился и хорошим, но кто его поставил - не вникал в суть работы французского спецназа.

One commenter asked, "Why revolvers?" That would be my question, too. But Those revolvers were made so well that they even mounted scopes on some models for sniper work. Besides if you are a good shot, you don't need a 30 round magazine.(ahem)

In real life the majority of officer still use 357 magnum revolvers in the unit. They actually have kits they use with tripods and rifle scopes and their officer are trained to use their revolvers as a sniper rifle if needed. Not sure if they actually carry both the revolver and the fn 509 I think it is. The way he immediately pulls the semi may be bs. The single action of a revolver is almost unsurpassed in accuracy in the hands of a trained shooter, and these guys definitely are

@@andog6092 That’s very interesting and a good point, but it must still make you feel a little uneasy leading a breach with a revolver style firearm when the opposition are making use of automatic weapons. I mean the stopping power is a nice thing to have, but personally I would just stick with the FN.

И отдельная благодарность тем бойцам которые были тяжело ранеными лежав на полу истекая кровью и при этом до последнего выполняли поставленную задачу вели огонь по террористам не давая им высунутся из кабины пилота и вести огонь прицельно 👍.

After the Hijacking the Airplane F-GBEC A300B2-1C Was damaged beyond repair and scrapped the following year. At the time Air France had already started to replace their A300 fleet in favour of A330 and A320s. The fleet was going to be retired in 2-3 years anyway the last Air France A300 flew on december 1998

I'm surprised they didn't have guys on the outside both above the cockpit and climbing up from below to peek through the window. Break the glass, flashbang or gas. Also surprised the snipers didn't have a single view into the plane even through it's in the middle of a terminal. If the glass is blocking the view, stick a charge to one of them 10ft breach poles and bust through the glass.

0:49 a) They wouldn't have their guns out and pointing at their own colleagues while riding to the plane. b) they would crouch low, on the lower part of the staircase, instead of standing high right at the top. c) when the shooting starts, the commandos would take cover instead of just lowering their visors. How utterly stupid! And that's just some of the issues within the first minute! The unprofessionalism of this director reeks from every angle of this scene.

In most Police/ Military scenarios, you are trained to eliminate the threat before helping or assisting the wounded. It would be too much risk to try and help the wounded operator in that situation as you would be a sitting duck.

@@dog_2172 can't help in that scenario. You would be dragging a man through a plane aisle. Who would clog the aisle. And make many more targets open to risk.

ONE OF THE BEST BATTLES SCENES AND RESCUE BY SPECIAL FRANCE SWAT GIGN. AND THEY HAVE THE BEST HELMET IN THE WORLD JUST LOOK HOW THICK IS THE VISOR THAT PROTECTS AND SAVE THE LIFE OF ONE OF THE GIGN OFFICERS.

They used it in the past times Their revolver is highly useful from every combat they entered its because the revolver have high accuracy, a bit of lightweight and easy to use. Too bad they didn't used today and the gun itself turns into useless now

It was in a time where semi automatic weapons were yet not very reliable, revolvers were used from a long time and prooved their efficiency. Also good note from snake plissken, it was basically geared like a sniper rifle when you needed accuracy in thight spaces like an aircraft.

I would say the GIGN are on par with our GSG9...You do NOT want to mess with either.

Very lucky that the hijackers did start shooting the hostages before the special forces breached the aircraft. The element of surprise was completely lost.

I want to watch this movie but the black and white tone and camera movement throws me off. Both seem misplaced in this type of film. Oh well I’m sure it’s good enough. I had not heard of this event until recently but now I’m reading and watching everything about it. Terrifying for all those on board.

@anastasia just watch the movie. The black and white tone is usual in French cinema for this kind of movie. And the camera movements are differents during the rest of the movie (that's normal : it shows the chaos of firefight)
