You know MAL is rigged just for the fact that Brotherhood has a higher rating than the source material which is rare, especially from a manga that’s better than the anime. Also fun fact: according to MAL the best anime adaptation is UFO Grendizer which is hilarious considering that it’s by a large margin but most MAL users haven’t seen it.

I think one problem is the fact they split it into seasons rather than updating the already existing page for a show. It makes the top shows wayyy more messy and also makes it easier to give shows a 9/10 user score or higher with only like 2 or 3 episodes in

More often than not there's a difference in quality between seasons. More and more often they're not even worked on by the same studio. Giving them a separate page makes it easier for people to judge the quality of a show over time.

@@Kantorot I mean technically this is all pretty subjective yeah. In almost every show someone could claim the characters are one dimensional. Guts from berserk? he is obviously just simply an anti-hero who tries to overcome his problems. punpun from goodnight punpun? obviously just a kid who experiences bad stuff and becomes depressed. I don't take the characters from steins gate to be one dimensional, they show change throughout the show and I also felt a change in myself through watching the series because of me relating to the characters.

No game no life doesn’t deserve 17th but it does deserve more seasons.

I can't believe I kept missing his stream. VOD are the only way I can catch up to this. Edit: I kinda find his take on Violet Evergarden very interesting. On one hand, he said Violet's story is not interesting and unrelatable. And I can understand his opinions.But on the other hand, the people who find Violet's story and character relatable the most are turns out to be military veterans. I remember watching a video about U.S veteran discussing how Violet Evergarden portrays combat PTSD and military veterans very well.

While I've never experienced warfare firsthand, VE is the only anime I've seen that stopped me in my tracks and made me reflect on just how truly awful it can be.

Parasyte done dirty man. It hit me so hard when I first read the manga, and seeing it finally getting a decent adaptation was such a joy. One of my favorites of all time.

Hey Garnt. I've used TierMaker a lot and created many tier lists myself. You said that TierMaker didn't listen to you because you tried to put the files in order, but i didn't work. That's because TierMaker places them in alphabetical and numerical order, meaning that you have to name the files when you save them 1, 2, 3 or a, b, c. or aa, ab, ba, bb etc. Thanks for being entertaining as always!

Bro seeing Dr. Stone and Food Wars on the same tier as 7 Deadly sins hurts. They might not be the best, but they do something thats different enough than your typical power fantasy that makes it stand out. They made a lot of people develop in interest in Science and the Culinary Arts. Dr. Stone has shown that were only getting started, with the reveal of Why Man in the current season. Food wars is harder to defend, but the first 2 seasons are hella entertaining.

Its cool that you like it but imo 7DS is one of the most generic shonen I've read, and the "narrative" is practically non existent. Mothers Basement did a good job of breaking down the tropes and awful writing in the series.

I dropped SDS after finishing S2. I dropped Dr.Stones midway through the 2nd Season. I have never done that for any other show except for shows I watch to remember specifically to remember what a shit show looks like.

I didn't love parasute myself. The show has no definite plot, and just goes anywhere. The ending is just random, nothing special. The overall theme of the show was mentioned in the ending it was actually probably decided at last moment. At least it felt that way. On the other hand, I feel like Toradora is a well deserved romcom, and one thing that sticks about the fandom is that they absolutely, absolutely love Toradora. Toradora is either in top5 animes of all times or nowhere at all, in people's lists

Parasyte was easy to like but hard to love. It lacked a distinct style, the use of 3-D is just plain indefensibly bad, and I really didn't like the music. Music is a huge part of anime enjoyment to me as remembering the songs is a big part of remembering the show's emotional peaks, so not liking the music hurt the show a lot for me because the big moments didn't stick in my mind long after the show's end. It was enjoyable while I watched it but I struggle to remember any big pivotal scenes like I do with other anime, so it'll never be one of my favorites and I'm sure many other anime fans feel the same.

No disrespect to the series, I'll rewatch it someday but it'll never reach the same level as Toradora. Many monthly manga maintained their relevance for years like one punch man, chihayafuru and attack on titan just to name a few. When s1 ended, I noticed, most who liked the show were mainly talking about the anime. I rarely see anyone talk about the manga. That's probably part of the reason. But the manga is still popular in japan. It's definitely the main reason season 3 was greenlit.

I genuinely don’t understand what Garnt is trying to convey when he mentions bleach having a lot of chapters. Is he saying a long shonen having more than 500 chapters is bad? If I ask him to remember every arc down to the last detail in one piece and Naruto right now and he doesn’t then I guess that means they’re bad and have bad pacing too?

I don't think I've seen someone miss the mark so much with Violet Evergarden. An empty vessel learning life through others, pain, loss, joy, love and finally finding herself. No shot she starts off boring, that's the point lol, the journey has to start somewhere.

@@dragon-kun199 The letter writing premise is unique, and it's kyo-ani at their animation finest, but for an anime about "a -empty vessel- girl learning life through others through pain, loss, joy, love, and finding herself" there was actually another anime in the same season that I felt hit those marks better - Sora Yori (A Place Further than the Universe), which is sadly underwatched. Keep in mind that Garnt kept Violet in the "Deserved" category, which I agree with. VE has been great, but between the standout Episodes 7 and 10 there are some episodes that came off somewhat weaker.

Garnt should do a main character tier list soon.

That's mainly the catchphrase of everyone Saying it fell off after Soul Society without giving it a real reason. People think it is obvious but it really isn't I can actually think of a couple of valid reasons for people to say that,although no one ever uses them They just go with the feelings. No arc attracted people as much as SS did. Now they are attracted because of new hype around it. In my case,I'm just interested on how authors and animators will fix this arc

Yeah pretty noticeable with everyone who talks about bleach. He probably knows if he had a actual discussion about bleach that would go wrong. I genuinely doubt he even remembers the Soul Society arc he’s just going with the opinion most anime fans are saying. Tho also not shocking since he only started bandwagoning when the anime came back. (Like most anime KZreadrs) He says TYBW gets worse after what the anime showed but I guarantee with the next part he’s gonna say “well yeah after this part it gets worse this part was also good in the manga” It interesting seeing him give every shonen an excuse but bleach.

Even after watching/reading so many romance anime/manga, kaguya sama is the romance/romcom I enjoyed the most. Call me everything, but I think the ice kaguya arc in kaguya sama is the most well witten arc I ever seen in a romance.

Psycho pass season 1 was seriously amazing. The characters were amazing. The antagonist/anti-hero was so compelling and had a genuine theory/philosophy that was "correct". I low-key wish the show ended on s1 tbh. I actually rewatched psycho pass back in October last year (after 8 years since I last watched it) and wow!! I feel even more strongly about the show that before (even tho I airway loved it)

Your Lie in April was great because they hit you with her sickness out of left field and their backstory was amazing. The last scene with the letter is also GOATED!

The thing about Steins;Gate 0 and the movie is that they're completely optional content. The original series was well wrapped up, because it showed the main route. 0 isn't there to be fan service, or to tack on another season for the hell of it. It's there for fans of the anime that wanted to see some of the routes where Okabe failed to save Kurisu. The visual novel 0 is based on is the same. You don't need to play it to get a complete package, but if you had that itch wondering what happened in the future without Kurisu, it's there to scratch that itch.

After re-watching toradora recently made me appreciate it a lot more If you've seen it a long time ago I think it's worth to give it a shot again bc Taiga for me at least wasn't just an iconic tsundere, she tries to keep people away bc of abandonment issues

the issue with the show really is the ending, where all characters just start to act completely out of character just to cause more drama and then finishing the season with the super weird reset type of thing

Now I understand why Gintama isn't included xD the title wasn't specific enough haha so it's popularity

I feel like there's some misunderstanding here. Gigguks reaction to a lot of these makes it seem like he thinks these are top RATED shows when it's actually just the most "popular"/watched shows MAL. For example, Akame ga kill may be 29th most "popular" show on MAL, but its only rated 7.47 (#1790).

i Feel Like gigguk knows that. he said multiple times In the Video when He Believes a show didnt deserve this popularity. but at the same time it's kind of hard to rank these shows without basing off some opinions on personal feelings. Saying Akame Ga Kill didnt deserve its popularity a lot due to how cringey It Is is a valid take.

Something that i love about crunchyroll is that every season of an anime is in one place

Someone should tell these MAL users that anime did exist before the 2000s.

The Parasyte take is just awful. It feels like he must have just wrote the show off as "dubstep music lol" and barely paid attention when watching it cause I don't know how anyone would boil it down to "MC gets OP hand powers" otherwise. Like half of the show is the MC growing emotionally dead due to trauma and characters discussing moral philosophy. It's certainly not perfect but it's not just some generic action show either.

I love gigguk for his demon slayer take, but I also hate him for his erased take lol

@@aj-xh6qu absolutely. I think shinichi has one of, if the most compelling character arcs I have ever seen. the way his character changes so seamlessly is so good. I also think it's one of the best thrillers, since It convinced me anyone can die at any given moment. that along with how perfectly themed it was, with a philosophical topic that truly makes you think, made it one of my favorite anime. also the dubstep is surprisingly amazing. only topped by it's fantastic opening.

Well Fairy Tail is one of the very few shounens which actually has a useful female character for once. Erza is a badass character with a good backstory.

@@jaspernemo1825 In the context of the late 2000s early 2010s it was still the only freaking show that did that. I can cite close to a dozen of really relevant female characters in Fairy Tail that had their own moments, their own backstory and even their own arcs for some. For stuff like Naruto there's Sakura + Tsunade and that's it and they are not relevant AT ALL outside of plot-related stuff. One Piece was the same at the time, apart from Nami and Robin (which again were mostly there for plot-related progression) there was simply little to no female character lead in this manga. This mattered a lot, I remember being able to talk about Fairy Tail with girls in middleschool/highschool which was absolutely not the case for many other shows. Girls actually watched Fairy Tail at the time for this reason

Thank you for this, it's such an underrated side of Fairy Tail that many people that didn't read or watched it don't even know exists. But Fairy Tail has banger female character development which was absolutely not the standard in shounen at the time.

You got the point, I don’t like Eren’s dub as well, it just sounds really shrill, and I don’t understand why they made the titan roar sound into like female ghost screaming, that sucks

I think people like Fairy Tail, because it just presents something different from the Big Three, a fun story, easy and light to follow. They say it's a One Piece rip-off but that's in the past. I love Fairy Tail much more than any other Nekketsu. And along with Detective Conan they are my favorite animes

In my country Fairy Tail was bigger then some of the Big 3 series, like for example Bleach was MASSIVELY less popular then Fairy Tail

Fairy Tail was one of childhood classics for me, it really is the embodiment of "power of friendship" and at that time I thought it was really cool. Looking back, oh God lol but Fairy Tail will always have a special place in my heart.

Not shocking it’s funny when anime fans talk about “normies” but then they’ll have some of the most low Iq takes that make them feel exactly like the people who just watched their first anime ever. Also telling a story in shonen = bad Pretty animation in shonen with colors all over the screen = good

what makes no game no life so popular is the way Mahhouse builds the hype at every key moment, the animation and musics are on point.

I wish he'd ever talk about his thoughts about part 6, cause I think cour 2 and 3 had some of the best moments especially towards the end. I'd love to know what he thinks about it

Ehh i thought Bryce pappenbrook did incredible for the final season of AoT, i was actually one of those that was kinda nervous cause bryce always excelled at bratty and loud teen characters. But after hearing him voice adult eren, it was probably one of if not his best mature voice, like i could hear the defeat in his voice as he talked

lmao the ending. It's like dropping a nuke and just peace'd out.

The psycho pass take made me so happy, I knew he gave it a 7 in the pasted and said it’s a 9 now but seeing him put it that high made me so happy, like season 1 gets better with age and also season 2 existing makes season 1 better to. Like it’s so good.

season 1 is fantastic, but the only reason season 2 makes the first one better is because it sucks so much in comparison to it. Even season 3 is better than 2 imo

@@Vermilio893 Well season 2 in my opinion in its own it’s a fine decent lol 7 out of 10, the reasons it doesn’t work is it just wants to be like season 1 but do to way less episodes struggles to manage that in the best way. Like lots of people after season 1 said it was good but the world still had some much for to explore, even though we’ll it does that’s not the point of season 1 and it’s perfect the way it is. Season 2 proves us this was the case as even with it adding stuff it makes it clear season 1 was perfect the way it is. Like I still enjoy all the other stuff after season 1 but like when ranking my favourite anime only really includes season 1 as not only was it a complete story that we’ll still has more to explore is not necessary but ever thing after was not even that bad or offensive enough to ruin season 1.

When he said that Attack On Titan and Love is War are not popular enough despite being no.1 in popularity, I couldn't agree more because I have the very same thoughts. Yo, AOT and Love is War are the only anime that has 10/10 in every aspect of anime. Also I've been telling people for years that Another is a comedy. Garnt you are an enlightened individual.

Garnt is being really hypocritical by putting demon slayer on deserved and then constantly complaining how it ends up on many top lists or wins award shows. He doesn't understand he is exactly the kind of fan who makes it so popular that it gets best fantasy award over mushoku tensei. Stick with one side garnt. If it's all hype only then never deserves no. 7. Or else stop complaining about demon slayer curse following you everywhere cause it's targeted towards your tastes.

You can definitely articulate in a semi decent way the good and bad of all series ever. But garnt doesn't do that he just goes on random rants and never properly articulates his critiques and definitely over exaggerated a lot of his biases . Garnt often never even notices his biases and states most of his opinions as fact. But when broken down in most of his takes, he barely understood most of these even the ones he liked .

He is right though. Even for a Demon Slayer fan there are awards that we should not even be a part of like best fantasy or best character. So when you put an award an action show about having the best romance it is plain wrong. Even in the fandom none agree in a best character so how can you pick Tanjiro as an iconic character?

Yeah Stein;Gate actually has a format closer to modern show with interesting and always moving plot. So glad it was well adapted into anime.

Ano Hana is such a good show. Rewatched it like 3 times and every time i feel sad for at least a week and all I can think about is this anime. The only thing that came somewhat close to that, was "I want to eat your pancreas" I'm willing to bet with anyone that they will cry after watching it, even if they try their hardest not to. The funny thing is, I watched it 3 times but only vaguely remember the contents. But what i vividly remember is the exact emotions i felt. No other show hits as hard as Ano Hana. 100% UNDERRATED

I got my dad (who thought all animation was for children) to watch Aot and it completely broke the way he thought of animation

It's true that non anime watchers always think that animes are cartoons for kids. I agree that AOT or Dealth Note 1st part are the animes to recommend to them to help change their mind.

Bleach isn't 'slightly overrated'. Garnt, unfortunately, has trash taste.

Sword art online i would happily rewatch part of season 1 and alicization (before war of the underworld), Alicization was personally on a different level than the other seasons and i actually loved it

Violet evergarden including the most recent movie release is one of a handful of anime to make me cry. Not enough people have watched it: not popular enough!!!

I reawatched steins gate and 0 with the film withen 19 and half hrs . I skipped op and ed . Me and my buddy watched the whole series both seasons and movie in one day .

XD I would put not popular enough for AOT too and I think Kaguya Sama should be more popular, I kind of hate it when people saying Kaguya Sama characters looks like SpyXFamily when Kaguya Sama aired first and so much better than SpyxFamily(in my opinion)

"Popularity" and "best" are not the same thing. Those are two different rankings.

I think you underestimate how easy is to read Bleach. Even i, a very slow reader can blaze through Bleach really quick. I feel like i will read Bleach like 10 times in the same amount of time i can read One Piece once.

I've never cried as hard as I've watched Violet Evergarden. The Mother scene was iconic but personally for me the saddest scene of Violet Evergarden was in the final movie at the Brothers scene.

I get what he means with the Attack on Titan take. But it is actually one of the few big Animes, many normies actually know and actually watched. I think that show went as far as an Anime can go with non weebs, it shattered the glass ceiling, but the glass ceiling will never be as high as something like Breaking Bad for example, its unrealistic.

No Clannad and Mushoku Tensei, but just realized it’s sorted by Most popular and not top rated ok.

Easiest shit in the world is to have an option to have a normal list where all franchises are grouped into one like all AOT seasons in one and all Gintama seasons in one. Second seasons and final movies have an unfair advantage since the only people rating them are at the very least fans lol.

Honestly, Your Name and Silent Voice are both deserved. To me they are pretty much on equal terms and what separates them and which you prefer probably just comes down to which one resonated with you more... If you experienced bullying growing up for example then a Silent Voice will probably hit a lot harder and closer to home for you, but if you're like me and never really experienced that, and maybe you're a bit of a hopeless romantic, then Your Name will probably resonate more with you. I also think Garnt is onto something in that Your Name was made to be a film, a Silent Voice was adapted to be a film, and as someone who read the manga before the movie came out it's hard for me not to feel a little disappointed given they dropped quite a bit of material. Now I'm not saying the adaptation was bad, far from it, I think it was probably as good as they could have made it without extending the runtime to like 3 hours, but it's still "missing" something that the manga had you know... But, and here's my hot take, Maquia is better than both... There I said it!
