a friend of mine used to fly rc helicopters and do the most amazing tricks i have ever seen, he would fly it inverted heading straight down to the ground and flip it right side up and land it. i never realized how good he really was until i watched all these videos

I'm sure you're friend is really good, but this is just realistic flight and what you seem to be talking about is more like 3d flight, and there are many impressive videos about that with tricks more similar to the ones you mention. Maybe you want to check them out, you might enjoy rewatching some of those tricks :)

Difference is 3d helis are overpowered. This little thingy was underpowered and couldnt even lift its own weight.

I was into rc for 30+ yrs. I had a large scale elec H-500E with full cockpit/pilots etc. When things go bad it usually happens quick and in a flash that incredible, complex harmony of moving parts turns into a pile of pieces. A 5 cent bolt or control arm on my tail broke leading to my 500e's destruction. I fly quads now and just do not have the time/passion to pursue scale helis any more.

Hi Guy, I have a turbine A109 and had a similar situation with a faulty egt in my pht2 but thankfully managed to land it. Hope you are up flying again. Thanks man, in the meantime he is repaired with a Jakadofsky Pro6000 and flies flawless ;-) A sudden broken belt and lack of power was the reason of the crash, nothing else. The vortex is the "following" of the lack op power.....not the "reason". I have also a repainted Huey, swopped from PHT3 into electro, 19kg.

Settled with power. :-( Hardest part of rotor wing flying. Many real helicopters suffer the same fate. Great scale flying. I thought there was a point about 2/3 in where it lost power and the rotor/tail rotor slowed but I guess not.
Oh that bites , I remember my Cadet senior finding the trees when the radio quit closed everything down and wated it do 8 loops by itself till it hit the trees .
Guy V. All I can say is, what a beautiful aircraft. I wish I could see you fly in real time, but I live in the USA, So probably won't happen. I hope you get her back flying real soon, and very sorry to see it hit the ground.

Hi Erich, I will repair this one soon, but busy now with a Huey (Afghanistan desert version) You can find me on facebook with more pictures. Thanks!
I was thinking vortex ring state but I think you guys are right about the head speed. You can see that with the syncing of the blades and the camera shutter. I'm sure there's a tremendous amount of work to get this operational again, but fuselage seems to survive and I bet it was salvageable. Sure was pretty.
Damn noisy contraption!!! Sounds like one or both rotors could use better bearings!!! Looks nice though!!!
OHH I loved it
aww bad luck mate
As much as I enjoy watching things crash, my heart goes out to the owner/operator.
Ouch! What an _expensive_ way to be reminded of "vortex ring state." Also, I find it interesting that the pilot/owner did such an incredible job on his build with everything _except_ the anti-collision/nav lights. The only one that appears to be to scale is the red beacon on the underside of the tail boom. The rest seem to be flashing too fast and/or shouldn't be flashing at all. I suppose now he's got the perfect opportunity to correct that situation! ;)
@cdwen2

Wow you have been sorting out your flashers lately too eah...
It was great, right up to the point he killed it
5:27 welp there goes 3 grand good job mate
O www man what a pit, its beautiful helicopter.
This is a classic PHT3 clutch problem, under heavy load the clutch bell slip around the shaft and you loss rotor rpm but the turbine still run well without loss turbine rpm. You need to put some expoxy glue between shaft and clutch bell then tight very well the collar on the bell.
👍👍👍good pilot .
That's enough to make a grown man cry!

@Intrepid175a

Well, I don't know about that. What I do know is, if all he had was some kind of power failure, there's no reason he couldn't have just done an autorotation and saved the bird. He was well away from the flight line, if fact, he had been flying the model a lot closer to himself, and everyone else, just before that so hitting someone really wasn't an issue here. I agree, he piloted the model very nicely up to the final arrival. As good as he was with everything else he did, he still needs to work on his autorotation technique!

O yes baby
Gorgeous helicopter. Hopefully it could be rebuillt.
I'd say about only 200 dollars worth of damage, if you're going to crash one, that's the best crash you can have. just a rotor issue and a few bumps and bruises on the fiberglass body....those are easitly fixed he salvaged 96 percent of the craft including all of the expensive electronis (about 1499 usd on the electronics alone). Bravo for controlling the copter and minimizing the damage.
Settling with power? His forward speed coming out of the turn was low and his descent rate increasing. Adding more power at that point might have cause a vortex ring state?
@pankajjaiswal6498
4 жыл бұрын
Same thoughts, it has to be vortex ring stall. And he was trying to gain altitude by a nose high attitude, if only he had put the nose down to try and gain forward speed he could have recovered in a second.
