Directed by MARC WEBB
Starring CHRIS EVANS, MCKENNA GRACE, JENNY SLATE, LINDSAY DUNCAN and OCTAVIA SPENCER
Frank Adler (Chris Evans) is a single man raising a child prodigy - his spirited young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace) - in a coastal town in Florida. Frank’s plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven year old’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank’s formidable mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary. Octavia Spencer plays Roberta, Frank and Mary’s landlady and best friend. Jenny Slate is Mary’s teacher, Bonnie, a young woman whose concern for her student develops into a connection with her uncle as well.

The expression she had when he said You don't know what Ad Nauseum means, looks like someone needs school was really funny.

@Christopher Bingham The point is that she was reluctant to go to school, and he was trying to persuade her that she needed to. I think he came up with a clever trick. She stopped arguing at that point, so it seems that it worked.

@Christopher Bingham I thought you were arguing about the man's "logic". Nothing in your reply to me is relevant to the question of his reasoning. But to address what you say, he had used a phrase that Mary didn't understand, so she was on the back foot. There was nothing to indicate that she thought he was being stupid at that point. Your speculation about what she might have been thinking is not grounded in anything that we see on screen. Your second, rather longer paragraph, seems to be an entirely irrelevant tangent. The scene we are commenting on is set before Mary goes to school, so the events that occur at school cannot have a causal role in the motivations of the characters in this scene.

@@EX7Sonic Product placement isn't just making the world of the film look like the real world. Product placement is shoving the product in your face and briefly turning the film into an advert for that product. Or, at least, that is how it comes across sometimes. It can be very clunky and can jolt you out of the fictional world that you were immersed in. It can ruin a film.
