Gibson Les Paul vs ESP (E-II) Eclipse Shootout || Which Should You Get??

Музыка

No new gear this week, so thought I might answer a question that I get asked quite often on Facebook: "Should I get a Gibson Les Paul or an ESP Eclipse?" Here are my thoughts on that. Using EMGs in both of them, so not really sure how much you'll be able to hear after KZread compression, but whatevs.

TYPO IN THE VIDEO: The Gibson has an 81X/60X set installed.
NOTE ABOUT THE GIBSON: Somewhere over its 45 year life, one of the owners decided to install a metal sustain block under the bridge that was drilled for import posts, not regular Gibson posts.

ESP are killer. I have 2. And 2 LTD’s as well. Which are great for the money. I have 4 Gibson’s. 2 of which are customs. And while the ESP may run circles around my hefty Pauls, nothing packs more punch than a Gibson Les Paul custom. It’s brutal beyond belief. When you strum or chug on that thing, it reverberates through your entire body. You won’t get that with an ESP (unless you have a Navigator or full thickness Eclipse) . They are both equally kickass guitars. I’d never part with either. 🤘🏻

ESP stays in tune even when it hasn’t left its case in 6 months. It was built in Japan before ESP moved to California. Best built guitar I’ve ever seen or played.

"ESP is the Super Strat of the Les Paul style." Bro you absolutely NAILED it with this review. Many musicians come to know ESP through the LTD line, and every once in a while if you look hard enough you can find yourself a gem. The EC-500's were some of the best non-American made guitars for the money, and this review continues to solidify that point! Great work.

The Les Paul sounded a bit bigger and had a little more magic going on in its upper midrange. But an additional $3000 is a lot to pay for that magic. The ESP had a bit more sizzle in its top end and a more focused tone. They both sounded great, and I would just take them both.

I just sold a 2012 Gold/Ebony Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop due the bad experience I had with it. The guitar looks awesome and had a nice sound, but simply it didn't stay on tune. Don't know if other people had problems like this with these richlite fretboard Gibsons. That being said, the best Gibson I've ever had was a Traditional Pro II 2011. Loved that guitar. Also had one LTD Elite Eclipse guitar that I should not have sold, that guitar was amazing. I've tried and owned different brands of guitar in the recent past and I have to say that I prefer an ESP/LTD Eclipse than a Gibson Les Paul right now. Just love ESP/LTD guitars, I think they are great for my kind of stuff, looks amazing, sound amazing and plays amazing. Now I'm looking for an used E-II Eclipse Vintage Black DB.

Good review as always. I’d have to pick the ESP LTD over the Gibson. The Gibson sounds heavier but that $4000 price is a little steep and Gibson’s quality control hasn’t been good lately. $1300 is good for a guitar, if you wanted a heavier sounding LTD you can pick up a Gary Holt or James Hetfield custom. Both guitars are heavy sounding and are more affordable. It’s too about Gibson, I hope they turn it around.

How did u record it? Direct or with mic from ampli? The both sound's typical.. I think it would be make a difference if you recorded from amplifier Marshall behind you but I think it was switched off seen from this video

I have had my ESP Eclipse I CTM 2008 model for a few months and it is one of the best guitars I've ever played. There is just one thing I don't particularly like about it and that's the mustard color of the binding. I love that yellow binding of the les paul custom!

Theres something in that gibson that has better thickness, richness, like butter added to them power chords. Is this the same sound in all custom les pauls or should i switch to same pickups in your video ?

1:16 is the ringing I hear just from the strings of the eclipse? Because I see that you got it already wrapped but there's this ring that I still hear. Anws both are sexy and hot guitars tho I'm thinking of saving for an eclipse 🖤

Hello, I'm currently looking for a more 'professional' guitar to play in my hardcore punk band. I have an EC-401 LTD sounds good, but I need something better. I'm in an ESP eclipse E-II Vintage Black, a gibson LP Studio 2016 ebony. LP Custom escapes from my budget ... you recommend me for that price range?

As much as I appreciate you (and others) doing videos like this, it's kind of an exercise in futility. The only real fair way to compare is to make sure all is equal as possible, I.E. same pickups, electronics, bridge and tailpiece, and nut in order to ensure that the actual guitar husk itself is the only real variable in the comparison. But even if you do this, nothing makes up for holding the 2 guitars in your hands, and feeling them as you're playing. The way the guitar reacts is hard to explain in a video. But regardless, it's cool to see one person's take on the two being compared and which one is right for them. Being an owner of a 2007 ESP Eclipse II and a few different Gibson Les Pauls, I can say they're both great guitars, but I'd take my favorite Les Pauls over the ESP if I had to choose.

I like the ESP Eclipse for it's modern take on the LP. I like the sharp lower cut away, but I don't like how the upper bout meets the neck at an angle rather than 90 degrees. Maybe this allows them to repel Gibson lawsuits (like the Explorer).

I bought an esp e-ii eclipse and couldn't make it stay in tune for nothing. I took it to the store and the guy played the heck out of it and it didn't go out of tune. Is this a problem of humidity-controlled environment vs my house? I dunno what else can explain it.

Haha, I got it about 10 years ago and haven't ever needed to replace it! The purple LP is a Chibson (Chinese AliExpress modified knock-off Gibson). Looks awesome, can't adjust the truss rod and it has about a 16" radius. Good wood gone to waste.

How do you feel about playability? I've been a strictly acoustic player for about the last 10 years. Recently ive been bitten by the electric bug. Needless to say I haven't done much shredding or metal riffage. I'm currently looking at Gibson Les Paul Studios and ESP(used) or E-II Eclipses the hardest, but are open to others. I play everything from Prog rock/metal, to clean, to metal. Looking for something versatile, but still can get dirty, while offering the best playability I can get for my money. I'm still saving, so I haven't ventured to play these yet, plus I live in a small town, so not a lot of options close by. Just wanting an opinion. Sorry for the long ass comment. haha.
