GIBB RIVER ROAD PART 5 | ELLENBRAE STATION TO THE PENTECOST RIVER

In this episode Christian, Katie and the girls find their own private waterhole oasis (and the best scones on the Gibb) at Ellenbrae Station. Christian explains the unique water manifold system on the Vision RV and how they manage their water while off-grid. Then they tackle the roughest part of the Gibb and arrive at Pentecost River and soak up one of the best views in Australia...

    Thanks for watching guys! I hope you enjoyed. We were in the live chat today but there was only Grab Life by the Gourlays in there, maybe because people were watching on TV or because they were shy? 🙈 Either way, we might give it a crack again next week if you’re keen - let us know what you think. 👍 Beers and chat for the last episode? 😜😊

    Hey Simon, nice to see you back again. 👍 So pleased to hear you're enjoying the episodes. One more episode to go mate. 👍 There is more footage of the trip, but it was just the Gibb that we produced for the team at Vision RV -Very torn about whether to dedicate the time to finishing this series off of finishing off our lap series. I feel like I need to back in time a bit and finish our lap series, there is so much awesome footage and experiences in there, I really want to see that completed. Man, you'll love the Gibb! Hey there, thanks so much - glad to know you are picking up on the extra time spent to get the colours where we want them for you guys. ☺ It's a time-intensive task, but the only one where I get to work with music playing, so it's definitely nice to have the tunes going as I grade. I have been grading for a long time, but it's one of those things, the more I think I know, the more I understand how little I actually know! Hahaha. Literally just the other night while doing some testing I was experimenting with some different ways to process my footage and think I will actually throw out the old way entirely. . .It's just a constant learning. . . Resolve is a good program to learn if you like playing with colour. 👍

    13:25 tyre pressure was too high for the specific conditions. The tyre stood up a piece of shrapnel that the pierced the sidewall - we call them deadly pyramids. That tyre looked like a General AT3 Grabber, but, no sidewall, no idea. Station hands often run at 50-60 psi on LTTs, no BS, and run hard and fast in the centre of the road (fun fact from Ellenbrae and El Questro). Most sidewall punctures occur on the passenger side where detritus build-up is greater than the driver's side.

    Wow, I did wonder hey. It looked so new, I just couldn't understand what had happened to it. Thanks for the explanation. ☺ So glad we had an uneventful trip where it comes to trye issues up there. 🙏Yeah, the craziest car I've seen up there is actually the school bus! 😂 Crazy, that thing! Fast, looked like full pressure, didn't slow down - literal bat out of hell! 😂 Not sure how it's tryes or the occupants for that matter, have survived. 😜

    Yeah, I really should have shown that, but honestly didn't even think it would be of much interest. 😂 Basically we just have a small plastic tub, probably about 50cmW x 30CmL x 25cmH ISH. . . We would buy live herbs in small pots from woolies or something and just keep them in the tub. We generally left them on the inside step when we shut the door. The container fit there perfectly. Also, for long remote trips like the Gibb, take whatever you can. Lettuce plants are perfect, because it's the first thing to perish and freezes terribly - so when you basically can harvest enough fresh lettuce for salad when you are in the middle of nowhere, it certainly feels like winning! And seriously, who can go without some fresh cut chives on your scrambled eggs or coriander on your Mexican. It's all time! 👍

    So what is the "Right Pressure"??😬

  • @SaltEarthandSun

    @SaltEarthandSun

    Жыл бұрын

    Well of course it depends on a lot of things - weights, tyre type, sidewall strength, surface you're driving on, tyre size, single or dual axle etc. There's actually quite a bit to go into your decision making process around this, but in the car, we ran 20PSI in the front, 24PSI in the back. The van was at 30 PSI. It handled well and rode very nicely at those pressures. But our old rig was quite a bit heavier, so we didn't quite go so low with that. Just depends on your gear. A heavier vehicle doesn't need as low a pressure to bag out the sidewall as much and that's usually what I look at, as well as how it feels whilst under travel.

    @@ianneill1400 That's awesome! Probably helps to have a decent rig too, I'd bet. What are you driving? See, I get to a point. I'll feel it out and see how we go to start with, but as soon as she starts shaking, I'm straight out to drop the pressures. I just hate the feeling of the rattling. Not only that, if you've seen what I've seen in slow motion when watching cars "Floating" over the corrugations at max speed with full pressure, what it feels like in the cab is very different to what's happening at the wheels - there's is literally max spring travel and incredible forces going on down there with zero give in the tyres. It just looks like it needs a helping hand down there so it doesn't stress everything so much. I am a bit of a nanna though, I'd much rather go a bit slower and arrive without issues, than get there fast and in a couple of different pieces. 😂
