Another fun video! Would have waxing the wood balls help make it spin better or is there some sort of grease safe stuff for wood? I did watch the second air video, just figure I would throw that thought out there. Also maybe a little extra weight on the ends of each fin? But all in all, great fun video making a jab at the current trend! Love it!

Junkyard129 I put some wax on the balls right before the air compressor. You can see how much better it spins after the spinning polished the balls.
I like how you suddenly have a bandage on your finger lmao

Dustin Penner definitely! Love the vids man
That spinning sound was, by far, the best sound to come out of a fidget spinner ever! Like a wooden roller coaster! Well done, sir!

You just gave DP an idea! A wooden roller coaster with equally wooden ball bearings! That wood be woodtastic!
Okay, the trick with the brass rods and the drill was ingenious! Also, its awesome that even the ball bearings are wood. Nice touch.
職人技だし発想がすごい
Ur awesome 😎 you actually made a wooden baring manually 😀😀😃 love ur work!
I don't know what's more crazy, this project or how skilled you are. Hats off for putting this together.

Coating the bearing rails and the balls in resin and curing it at high temp would make everything slide better. Finishing with car polish the resin coated balls & rails would make them even better. This can be made into a fun table.
That was awesome! Love your vids

The fact that he made a wooden bearing blows my mind!!!!
Incredible bearings 👏👏👏
thank you man good job
That iz a lot of clamps, good job, and you made the bearing yourself! Keep up the awesome work!
The wooden bearing is awesome!!! I never thought of that concept. Just building it layer by layer
@dpmakestuff

Quintonius Rex thanks! It was sort of an accidental discovery. I want to build the spinner out of hardwood, but didn't have any pieces big enough. Once I decided on layers of plywood, I realized the bearing would be much easier to build!
The framed picture of a random general hanging on the wall in your shop is the best part of this video.

why?

cause it's not something you normally see hanging on a shop wall?

kind of an insulting statement wouldn't you agree? It's also a picture of Bill Murray so I don't know if that changes your opinion.

Nice :D maybe you can make voids in the middle layer and fill them with lead shot or sand or ... to make it more heavey, so it will spin even longer :D
@dpmakestuff
7 жыл бұрын
Thought about that too! My fear was that the high-speed spinning would cause it to explode if I added too much weight. Thanks!
I don't even like fidget spinners I just watched it for the wood work and the skill used to make it
@dpmakestuff

That's exactly how I feel! I could only do a fidget spinner if it was purely woodwork related.
How did you turn the buffer screen circle into a fidget spinner?
You can probably make that into a sign now. "Spinners sold here"
@dpmakestuff
7 жыл бұрын
Someone suggested I turn it into a ceiling fan and I spit my coffee out. Thanks!
cool. How did you calculate the inner diameter needed to fit the correct size wooden balls?
@dpmakestuff
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! My answer sounds like I'm being a smart-ass, but I'm not. Math is how I figured out the balls. I knew approximately how big I wanted the bearing and adjusted it once I figured out how much of a gap would be between the balls. I wanted a little slop, not too much.
...чувак, ты Безумный Макс!!! :) хочу такую же штукуууу!!!

I didn't have clue what you were doing until half way through but it turned out amazing! Great craftsmanship, although i'm wondering why you didn't turn all of those spheres? lol :)
@dpmakestuff
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I started researching sphere cutters, but the best I could find was over $300 USD without shipping. It's also really time-consuming and not that accurate. These were $.50 a piece and within a couple thou of each other.
@jmakes3745
7 жыл бұрын
Haha, i was only joking, i know how hard it is to turn a perfect sphere! I can't remember the name of the video, but i did see a really good trick for doing it though, that you could try: place a template of a circle under your lathe, and then a light directly above the thing you're turning. The light will be blocked by the thing you're turning onto the template below producing shadow. You just have to keep turning until the shadow matches the template, which should create a perfect sphere!
Nice woodwork. But who need this?
I should be studying, but no, i am watching a legend making a huge wooden fidget spinner...

I think I got my terminology wrong, I meant the divider element that keeps the wooden bearings from touching each other. I bet a disk of masonite with holes in it, larger than the bearings, would do the trick.
@dpmakestuff
7 жыл бұрын
Ahh yes, a separator. I Could have added one, but I thought the open bearing would look better. I don't know if the separator would help on wood bearings since you might be introducing more surface are for the balls to rub on.
Super awesome so sick
Excellent...! Cheers...
