A cpu can hit at most abiut 95 degrees at max load until it thermal throttles and crashes. This equates to about 200 degrees using the U.S customary system. Paper burns at 451 farhenhiet. Nowhere near enough heat generated.

TheCherryPi Ok, where can you get a Lenovo Laptop for under $100? Even the cheapest, entry level Lenovo at walmart is usually over $300, with the occasional rollback listing it at $249. HP laptops are cheaper than Lenovo, and are usually the cheapest laptops for sale. Even then, you are unlikely to get a brand new HP for under $200. Even netbooks/chromebooks rarely fall to that $100 mark. So, unless you are talking used, that is unlikely.

Note that if you parallel two lithium ion batteries you *NEED* to make sure they are well matched. Namely they should be bought together in a two-pack so they come from the same run and everything. Given that you aren't even using a battery protector or anything, I'd like to recommend the Panasonic NCR18650 series which can go to a lower voltage (meaning if you accidentally leave the DC-DC converter on after the system shuts off from too low voltage it gives you longer before it actually damages the battery) and they have a surprisingly good capacity over the usable voltage range too (the higher numbers you see are assuming you discharge all the way down to the lower voltage these support which is impossible, but over the standard voltage range it still has great capacity. I don't have the means to measure, but I'd say at least 2600mAh, possibly as high as 2800.) These usually come in matched pairs as well, but are more expensive. www.amazon.com/dp/B00DHXY72O/ Overall this seems like an interesting way of going about this. It keeps the complexity of most designs down significantly. Though it shouldn't be too hard to do this using wood pieces or something for a bit more sturdiness. I'm not sure cardboard would hold up well at all to folding and unfolding. EDIT: That's a real find on that screen! I'd never found a seven inch screen so cheap that used HDMI instead of I2S or whatever. BTW, that music sounds suspiciously like the Lode Runner (Sierra remake for Windows) music. :-p

My reaction on the small thumbnail was "wood casing? meh". Then I saw it was a cardboard! I had to watch that! Really cool stuff! I was deeply surprised by the way you kept those battery connectors together! That was incredibly clever! But I will eventually use cable ties instead, because that rubber thing will eventually break (they are fragile, specially if the battery heats them).

I've thought about doing something similar to make a briefcase computer with a microatx motherboard, though the challenging bits would be powering it (which would actually be easy if you don't put in a battery) and making it look less like a bomb. Decided buying a cheap used laptop on eBay that needed a couple minor repairs like a hard drive replacement and a new keyboard was a better solution. :P
