Whenever I watch your spider videos, it always crosses my mind that it's not just spiders that are interesting, you're just really great at presenting it, it helps with the fascination. This video is proof. These things are as unique and INSANE as anything could be on it's own.

Reduviidae are interesting critters. Every once in a while I find a 'Wheel Bug' , Arilus cristatus, here in Tennessee. Not as colorful as these as adults, but the 'saw' shaped pronotol armor.

Thanks Dave. Great video. I love the horridas. I started out with about 12 nymphs. It's about a year and a half later now and they have bred to a colony of about 120-150 individuals now. My favourite insect is the praying mantis, but these guys are a very close second. They are highly intelligent. Mine seem to recognize me and follow me around as I look through the glass, sometimes even attacking the sides of the cage! Watching them hunt is a real treat! As you said, the adults tackle the larger prey, then a few minutes later the smaller nymphs will swarm in and steal a meal from the adult. They are quite fearless. I regularly see small babies of 1-1,5 cm in length attacking and attempting to take down adult or large Dubia roaches. It's hilarious to see a horrida going for the kill on something that is 4-5 times its own size. Awesome creatures. The only two downsides with assassin bugs are that their enclosures will smell quite quickly, even with regular cleaning. You will never find all of the dead bugs and they will quickly start to rot in the enclosure. The other thing is that they breed so prolifically that you will soon have more than you can handle. Why in the world would anyone hit the thumbs down or leave negative comments!? Although I'm not a roach fan, I did love the Madagascar hissing bugs...they are amazing...even if they're so spoiled they're too lazy to hiss...😜😂...I really like the assassin bugs too. Are they as spoiled as your non hissing roaches? LOL😂 Also I love to hear your wife's voice. She should talk more often.... maybe she could do one of your videos and you be cameraman...lol.

Hi I love the dark purple legged bigger spiders

The most painful bite ive experienced from an invertebrate. I would advise you keep your hands far from them. The intense pain last about 10 minutes, but it was the longest 10 minutes of my life

I love my assassins got some white spotted assassins as well soon as they breed I’ll send you some mate what to start breeding loads of them

These guys would probably be great for a bioactive enclosure, with springtails and isopods, which the assassins should ignore for the most part You should also try the white spot assassins, they are fairly bold as well.

Also in case your looking for pet suggestions, Periplaneta roaches, especially Periplaneta australasiae, and americana are cheeky little guys that learn their keepers. Worth considering. Their care is similar to the red runners, but slightly more damp and humid

Creepy looking insects lol. I think I'll stick to Tarantula's and hopefully scorpions soon :D

Hi Dave, this is a fantastic video, just beginning to do my research on assassin bugs, I’m leaning towards the king’s, as the are stunning to look at, I’m putting together an enclosures the same as the one in this video (exo terra 30x30x45), I was told to seal up the gaps next to the hinge section of the doors, as the feeders and future babies might escape via these gaps, did you do this?? Thanks in advance kris

When I was breeding crickets, I used to keep the container dry but put in a small flat container of damp vermiculite with a piece of fitted square 1cm mesh on top (to stop them from kicking the vermiculite all over the place). Anyway I changed that container verm. weekly and incubated it until all the eggs hatched so I could raise batches all about the same age and size. Would something like that work for the assassin bugs?

Can’t you use sticky tape twice to cover the enclosure? One side non sticky then then sticky part to go over the top and onto the enclosure?

those are the Triatoma infestans here in chile we call them vinchucas, I have only seem them once, they actually scare me lol also they can fly :(

You were handling those like it was a cock roach or something, I hope you realize these things carry a parasite in their saliva, and they do bite humans. They will feed off of you. If those were to breed and have a bunch of babies, and they happen to get loose, you would be in trouble with these things running around in your house.

@@daveslittlebeasties The orange and red ones? I have thousands of them on the side of my house every spring. They look almost exactly the same as the ones you have. I killed thousands of them last spring. If they bite you, usually at night on the face, your face is gonna swell up and theres a chance you will be infected by the parasite. Chagas disease

In fact, the only known creatures to carry Chagas disease are members in the triatomine subspecies - the kissing bug. In one study at Baylor College of Medicine, 75% of inspected kissing bugs were found to be carrying the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi.
