Giant Scale Twin Turbine Jet F-14D Tomcat (Skymaster Jet) -- Bomberfield 2021

Ғылым және технология

I love the F-14 Tomcat and so I'm always excited to see models of them flying. This particular model was the 1/7 scale Skymaster with the full house wing and other details. It had a nice weathering job on it and the airplane seemed to be a power house in the air! Unfortunately a swing wing mechanism issue precluded the wings from being swept in flight. According to the pilot, the model really comes alive in that configuration and he can really open it up in terms of speed. #F14Tomcat #NeedForSpeed #ScaleModel

As a former ASM (Aviation Structural Mechanic) Tomcat Tuner I'm almost in tears. They grow on you, you live for them & your heart breaks anytime one is hurt. I treat my children & grandchildren like I did my Tomcats. With love and firm soft hands. I'm only sorry I never got to drive one. That's why I chose the rate I did (along with studying engineering) as to hopefully fly the aviation version of the McLaren F-1 even before the McLaren F-1 existed !

My number one all time favorite airshow jet as it is with pretty much anyone who's seen it. I saw one once pull a high G 360 degree turn in full afterburner right on the deck in front of me. I'll never forget the experience.

LOVE IT! I was about to ask the question of wing sweep in flight, but I saw the comment at the top. I had the distinct privilege of working on F-14As back in the late 70s at NAS Point Mugu. At that time, I was a U. S. Navy PR2, parachute rigger. The work on this model is incredibly detailed and brought back all kinds of memories for this ol' squid. Don't ever forget that the only TRUE combat aircraft have tailhooks. 😁

Yeah, the process will help with all of it. The poly hardens up the whiskering and so stabilizes it and the primer/sand process will fill those micro voids from that and the texture. The smoothness will boil down to how many coats you want to apply and sand.

Well, you are correct in that, but no need to be your typical smart-ass self. I misspoke (I'm 71 so a little leeway please) Ailerons are not fitted, with roll control being provided by wing-mounted spoilers at low speed (which are disabled if the sweep angle exceeds 57°), and by differential operation of the all-moving tailerons at high speed.[42] Full-span slats and flaps are used to increase lift both for landing and combat, with slats being set at 17° for landing and 7° for combat, while flaps are set at 35° for landing and 10° for combat.[42] An air bag fills up the space occupied by the swept-back wing when the wing is in the forward position and a flexible fairing on top of the wing smooths out the shape transition between the fuselage and top wing area.[41] The twin tail layout helps in maneuvers at high angle of attack (AoA) while reducing the height of the aircraft to fit within the limited roof clearance of hangars aboard aircraft carriers.@@Thercgeek

I honestly was not intending any disrespect, so apologies if it was received that way. We are in agreement on the function of the wing elements, so I’m not sure the issue.
