This impressive 1/3 scale Messerschmitt ME-163 showed up for a test flight in preperation for an airshow. AIRWORLD Company team pilot Thomas Gleissner starts up the powerful turbine and puts it through its paces showing a rare great performing large scale jet.
Nice high and low speed handling qualities are displayed as well as low level aerobatics some high power climbs and very fast flybys.
Full modern GFK/CFK composite fibreglass kit available. Take off weight is around 22 kg.
Filmed at our local model flying field FMC Kinzigtal east of Frankfurt on October 13th.

Incredible! That was the first and probably only time I actually got an adrenaline rush watching a KZread video. I was just watching a documentary on the Me 163 and found it fascinating. I have 3 plastic models in various scales that I haven't started yet. The sound and speed and maneuvering is electric

Now that was impressive, masterful flying display. The background sky/time of day added to it. The only thing I'd say is that a pilot figure in the cockpit would really add to the realism. Well done.

- The wheels popping off on take off told me that this was going to be interesting. And it was. The only thing that would top this is two or three in formation flying. - Great job.

Awesome model and nice display! I have know a few people who have built 163s (not quite at this scale though!) and they all seem to fly really well. I loved the authentic wheel drop too!

Yes, Thomas is one of the best sticks and there are 3 NACA air intakes, two under the wing roots and one under the nose.

I did a 1/72 diorama of the Me 163 landed after a mission! Is there any technical reason why no RC 163 model I have ever seen, including this one, has a skid extending mechanism for landing? I mean, builders who can scratch build such a beauty, should have no problem adding an extending skid!

Hello, I bet your landing scene looks interesting ! You are right, models dont use any skid I guess because a belly landing works like on a glider model without a shock absorber like on the real one. Also the skid extended to release the wheels if i remember correctly. Horrido !

Yes, its a low drag beaut ! And has docile flight charagteristics ! Just a little different to normal planes.

Where is the air intake? The original Me 163 war a rocket plane, not a turbine plane.

The ME163 never had landing gear. “The design included a number of features from its origins as a glider, notably a skid used for landings, which could be retracted into the aircraft's keel in flight. For takeoff, a pair of wheels, each mounted onto the ends of a specially designed cross-axle, were needed due to the weight of the fuel, but the wheels, forming a takeoff dolly under the landing skid, were released shortly after takeoff.”
