Giant NES controller coffee table

Check out the detailed description of how I made it (as well as other video game related projects I've done) here:
ultra-awesome.blogspot.com/
Hello, I've been working on this for a few months now.
A while ago I decided I was running out of room for many many videogames and their boxes etc. (I'm one of those fanatics who insists on having everything with original boxes).
So I built this, to replace my current coffee table, it has space inside it to store game boxes etc.
Made from MDF and painted with a variety of oil based and acrylic paints.

It's really cheap to make, cheaper if you buy or get a free coffee table from Craigslist. The only hard parts, depending on your craftsmanship skills will either be cutting/routing the wood or doing the wiring for the buttons.

Do you mean to tell me that the hard part is the hardest part?

@@CottonTheMoth I had to congratulate you on this comment, well done.
It's astounding what some people can do
what happens if someone actually spills something on the table?

@ Godzilla’s hands are actually larger than you think
if that was a NES advantage
That controller is fucking incredible
I would pay a big load for that table. The creativity of the creator is admirable, and the fact that he loves gaming that much sure is too. Favorited!
I think about this video sometimes, that and the how to build the nintoaster instruction video. Having nostalgia over 14 year old videos of people having nostalgia for 80s tech. That's layered meta-nostalgia
Even if it didn't work it would still be awesome!
GENIUS!
I rarely see such massive win. You sir deserve many pats on the back and great fortune as a reward for your talents.
If I had this, my parents would never be able to complain that the control is too small! This is pretty awesome. Now you can play two players on a singleplayer game. Great for teambuilding skills!
my money just fucking take it

I NEED THAT IN MY ROOM
I love how you nailed the matte finish of the controllers. Very well done paint job.
I can't stand having games that are just bought without the wonderful original case or anything. It makes me sad just owning a cartridge, so I know how you feel. But, what the flip! You made a giant NES controller. That just about proves that you're one wonderful person.
what a messy house

Thanks, ProtoMario.
I've been thinking about doing one of these, you really didn't need to jump the original controller, they aren't that hard to do from scratch, but at any rate, thought "hmm, lets check if anyone else did this.." and you passed my expectations in quality and functionality, giving it a purpose when not in use-nice, and the projector to go along with it-man I want one of those sooo bad! Nice work.
Looks amazing great work and effort put into it. The NES controller has to be the most iconic one of the whole computer games industry, i even have a belt buckles shaped like one and a decal for my wii remote to look like one.
This video still amazes me! It would make a really badass coffee table for a finished basement. The fact that it's actually functional is just awesome!
I read about this on Cnet months ago, congratulations on your work, what you've done is so awesome.
the coffee mug would pounce off when placed on top of that table because of the awesomeness that table possesses
Awesome piece of functional art! Very retro-rad!!
What an amazing tribute to the greatest controller of all time!
Wow. Just wow. This is one of the most badass things I've EVER seen on KZread. Ever.
Wow, I'm really impressed! Fantastic job! I also checked the blog, and it's amazing!
Why would you dislike this video? Awesome prodject man! Love the pics of the work in progress and the music fits perfectly! Good job & a big thumbs up!!!!
So great to still see this classic video 😄👌
You are very talented, man, great job.
wow that is great, I'd love to see one of the big advantage controllers done like that
Great idea. Nice work building it, too!!
Thats incredible work man, truly inspiring. Keep it up! Much love for the NES!!
Praise the power of determination to make a kickass thing like that
Impressive! That must have taken a lot of work and money, I envy people who use their time for art like this! nice job!
Maaan you're amazing! Great work, it look gorgeous!
That has to be the most awsome thing i've ever seen and will ever see again. I would kill to have one... Great job and five thumbs up!
WOW!!!! congratulations!! that's a very well done work, and very detailed ..... wow I love it
How could anyone not like this?! This is the best thing I've seen all year! I VANT!
This is fantastic! Well done!
That is the most beautiful table I've ever seen.
Genius. Looks professional as hell.
Love the Jim Morrison shirt, very classy! awesome engineering too by the way
Practically impossible to tell that it's made of wood in this video. Really great.
Nicely Done. Looks Spot on Professional.
That would be hard to play with, BUT, it would make such an awesome coffee table and conversation piece!
More than 1 million people have seen your dirty house. That controller is amazing!
Very cool and creative! Good job!
very impressive, you should work as a set maker in the movie industry, you do real clean work.
OH MY GOD!! YOU'RE AWESOME!! TO BUILD A GIANT NES CONTROLLER ITS SO INCREDIBLE!!! Like a table and like a giant controller.... YOURE INCREDIBLE!!!
Tis is sick! I mean first the toaster vid and now a coffeetable dude old sckool is AWESOME
I haven't seen such an awesome thing for ages! I would buy such a table!!!
This is just pure EPICNESS. Keep it up, that's friggin' BEAST!
I have never seen anything as cool as this
That looks amazing, wouldn't mind having one of those!
That's friggin' outrageous! Love it!!
Awesome work! Great piece of art and its practical and fun to use! Actually works with the NES as a controller! I saw something similar on "Attack of the Show" on G4 years ago. Just don't spill any coffee on this table, though, LOL!
fantastic mate,it looks really well made!Practical and playable! sweet as f*ck!! I especially liked the two player co-op play with one doing the moving and the other the jumping! great idea for storing the games/consoles/cables etc and it looked ace with the glass top on.Good taste in reading material too!
OMG!!! a girl made this???? WOWSERS!!! The table looks great, the buttons looks so real and moves around like the real thing. Wouldn't you need a manufacturer that builds or create plastic to mould a shape like that?
LOL, that's amazing! On a side note, I've done that same thing before with having two people play with one controller, only on a normal sized controller. It can be rather amusing ^^
saw this in the herald sun. great work!
incredibly good work
That's badass I'd love to have that in my living room. If you walked into someone's house and saw that in their living room, you'd know they're a gamer. xD
Mark, from cgrhd, always say... A controller is good when its bigger then the console your playin on. And when he see's this he go's like WOW
That was extremely cool!
damn im very very impressed, and really nice work.must have taken a lot of time to do ^^ 5 stars to you! :D
That is INSANE and incredibly awesome.
Fine job man!
This is a great table. I would be interested in how the electronics works. A video would be really great.
Yeah, I had heaaapps of fun building it. In fact making it was the funnest part, I've barely actually played it since I finished it, I need to think of another project to work on this summer.
It's the coolest thing I've ever seen!!!!! Love it :D
"ever had problem with too small buttons on your controller? Fear not! the GIANT CONTROLLER IS NOW HERE!"
Phew! Crazy work.
Awesomeness Level? ITS OVER 9000!!!!
@dballs442 It's actually not bad at all. The buttons respond immediately (I can adjust how far you need to push them before they contact too). The D-pad is really responsive, it rocks really well on its axis (I'm actually really proud of the way I designed the rocking mechanism). It's kind of hard to do the run-and-jump action with the a+b buttons simultaneously because of the size. But in reality, I've barely ever actually played this thing. It's just a great visual centerpiece + for storage.
Wow, wasn't expecting pushable buttons at all, much less a working version. Good job. My only complaint is the wiring should come out the top of the controller.
Must have been a hell of a good summer.
One of the best things I've ever seen.
That's gotta be hard to play with. Nice team work!
This is the coolest thing i've ever seen
DUDE,THAT IS AWESOME!!!!
Wow, this is awesome. Really, really awesome. And Kyle, you are gorgeous
That's tight! I wish I was able to make one like that.
Omg, great work guys !
A lot of people have suggested this but I don't agree. I prefer having the console external so the controller actually plugs into it. Putting the console inside would make it cleaner, but having the console external just completes the quirkiness of it.
sie muss die fröhlichste Person der Welt sein so Klasse das teil , schade das es sowas einfach nicht zu kaufen gibt -.-
nice job thats phenomenal and awsome
@bpmagruder Yes that is SMB3, being played straight from a good old fashioned NES, and displayed on a silk screen trough a projector.
that is friggin amazing! and ur playin super mario 3 :'D thts the best game of all time
That's AMAZINGLY awesome.
Wait... So it actually WORKS!? Wow, epicest thing to put coffe on EVAR!
Whoa that's so weird! I saw a giant NES controller on display in someone's front yard around my block and now I find THIS on youtube.
For some reason, I feel like this should have been in that movie Big with Tom Hanks, lol. But its pretty awesome!
I'd love to play with that...and the controller looks fun, too. ;-)
@born2prank97 Old Mario has powers too. Mushrooms that make you bigger. Flowers that give you fire balls. And in 3, you can get tails that allow you to fly, etc. I love classic Mario.
well that is one neat coffee table.
Amazing Job!
A table and a controller damn this is perfect when you are high as the sky
This is so dorky, yet so epic! :D
wow? my grandma told me video game controllers were big back in the day but i didnt know this big!
Thank you so much. I have spare MDF laying in my room, as well as way too many video games (and systems... and their boxes) cluttering up my room. Yes.... Yes. Hell, maybe I could just put all those old nintendo powers in there!
