Awesome buck, so what was the distance to the deer, what bullet, powder and charge used (appeared to be smokeless), and it appeared the rifle was custom? I am a big fan of muzzleloaders, with good need here in IL we don't get to use rifles- shotguns, muzzleloaders, or pistols. I do have a Savage ML II smokeless. I find that it is nice not to have the smoke in my face so I can see what happens after my shot, but as far as accuracy goes it isn't any better than my Remington Ultimate or my previous CVA Accura. My furthest shot at a deer has been 145 yards- don't usually have much of an opportunity where I hunt to shoot much further than that. In regard to muzzleloaders though I enjoy everything from a traditional Hawken to the newest inlines.

Our corporate office is in Pittsfield IL, so we understand! And you are correct, it is a McWhorters custom muzzleloader. They make .45 and .50 caliber, I’m not sure what Todd was shooting on this particular buck. As far as the charge used, they custom build the bullets and customize the charge for each gun they produce, so each one is slightly different..
