Nice reaction as always bro. This was a story I totally ignored growing up, due to its missing status, but as you said, I think this is one of the better animations and it was a joy to rediscover the story when they released it a few years ago. I just can’t understand why it seems to be so prohibitively expensive for a huge organisation like the BBC to just animate ALL the missing episodes like this??!! 🤯

yeah the animation isnt even that good. budget to animate it all shouldnt be too high

You’ve technically met the Macra already. They were the creatures in the smog underneath New Earth in the Series 3 episode ‘Gridlock’ with David Tennant and Freema Agyeman. This is when you can see that they’re starting to really work with Jamie more with what he can do and who his character is, while also sadly starting to faze out Ben.

Maybe cuzz Ben being a Navy guy he finds it easier to follow authority, hence how easy it was for the macra to control him.

As usual the animation DVD and Blu Ray included a black and white version of the animation so people can’t complain about it being in colour. Thee are also some clips showing the Macra prop being built by Shawcraft. The steelbook release also included Gridlock. Monoids, Zarbi and Sensorites must return for Ncuti.

I love the macro terror and It is amazing Patrick Troughton story but I like the moon base more

Macra do not exist. So I don't know what this reaction was about. Seriously though, IMO you are absolutely correct, if there is one missing story that benefits the most from being animated, it is probably this one. There was only one Macra prop and whilst it was a cool design, it was very large. The company that fabricated it used standard furniture foam as filling. This made it very heavy and practically immobile. There is a surviving deleted scene from the story with Ben fighting the Macra when he attempts to rescue Polly, that is absolutely hilarious. The reason the footage exists, is because it was a censor clip (from Australia I think) and considered 'too scary' for young viewers. The Macra prop's eyes were repurposed Dalek eyes as it was manufactured by the same company who made those props. Given the issues with the prop, I think it was decided at this point that the BBC would produce future such props 'in house'. At this stage, those responsible for the animations clearly decided making a few concessions for modern audiences, such as colour and using wide screen aspect ratio makes the story more engaging for them. There was some criticism for this release by some purists because several of the scenes were heavily edited, mainly to make the Macra a bit more involved in the story. This story was the first one to incorporate the new titles and the animators have stayed faithful to that. Ben was in the navy, so trained to follow orders from authority immediately without question. I've always presumed that was why initially he was so susceptible to the mind control.

The meaning for the word "gay" in the 1960's would now be taken completely out of context in 2024 it originally meant "happy" or a "jolly" to be "merry" like for example in the end of the Flinstones song "We have a gay old time". The word gay didn't exist in the meaning of homosexuality until atleast by the 1970's I think. There is a scene cut out of the animation for timing and cost reasons which actually explained Polly's haircut in the original episode 1 Polly still had her long hair but got it cut midway through the first episode and a funny scene where the Doctor was being forced into the machine to scrub up because of his dirty scruffy look and looks alot cleaner much to the Doctor's disgust and complains "My shoes" then goes back into the machine malfunctioning and the Doctor with relief back to his scruffy self. The animation was ok I felt they could had put abit more effort into it to make it as accurate as possible would had preferred they left it in black and white. There's some censor clips that exist of this story of Polly getting attacked by a crab with Ben trying to rescue her then another one with Polly screaming then one clip of the old man getting chocked by the crab. This is also the first to introduce the new opening title sequence and updated the theme slightly.

The Doctor didn’t mean gay as in happy. This is yet another example of Classic Who’s insensitivity, using that 2000s slang of gay means bad that RTD would NEVER include 4 episodes into his run. Just like Classic Who’s disgusting ableist demonising of handicapable people with a wheelchair-bound Davros. Thank God for the beacon of foreword-thinking that is RTD who got rid of that and would NEVER have included such things in his era!!! Can’t believe the BBC animated this unedited. For shame. Boycott The Macra Terror animation!!!
