Shady Maple Smorgasbord (goo.gl/maps/agjhuKJc1zJEVMAB9) - When I heard about Shady Maple Smorgasbord buffet, there was no way I was going to leave Pennsylvania without going. It’s a massive, Amish Dutch food cooking, probably the greatest American country cooking buffet ever. Also something cool, it’s a 200 foot buffet!
From Philadelphia it was a little over an hour drive to Shady Maple Smorgasbord, which is pretty close to Lancaster, and it’s in the beautiful Amish countryside of Pennsylvania. Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, you arrive to this massive buffet - it looks like the town is built around a buffet. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner, and we arrived just before the end of breakfast, to be able to eat both breakfast and lunch, as the food changes. Breakfast was amazing - any kind of Western food breakfast dishes you can imagine are available - pancakes, omelettes, toast, mountains of bacon, and biscuits and gravy. It’s amazing. They then switch to lunch, and I was even more excited for lunch. You can just pay the difference of breakfast - so actually you’re just paying the lunch price ($14.99 per person) and then be able to enjoy both breakfast and lunch. For lunch they have a huge menu of dishes, plus a few extra special dishes each day. On the day I went they had Beef Brisket, Smoked Pork Chops, Fried Shrimp, New York Strip & Delmonico Steak for the daily specials. You can check all the menus and pricing here: www.shady-maple.com/smorgasbo...
I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty and how quality the food was, even cooked in large portions on a buffet. Really an incredible buffet eating experience, and that’s what makes it one of the most popular buffets and restaurants in Pennsylvania - every day it’s packed. A must eat Pennsylvania Dutch, Amish influenced food experience!

@@Korksbebig It depends when you go, and what "era" you've been to it. Decades ago, it was incredibly good. Nowadays, they have changed it so much and it's nowhere near as good as it used to be. Not to mention if you go when the food has been sitting like with most buffets, it's not going to be very good. Also, other than a few dishes on the buffet, I'm not sure what exactly is Amish about this place. Because no Amish are serving the food or working there for that matter, what with you know, electricity and what not. That being said, if you go on a good day, when they just put the dishes out, it can be quite good. But that goes for ANY buffet to be fair.

I used to live in PA and this place does NOT disappoint! For those of you vacationing in the Hershey area, the drive is about 45-60 minutes depending on traffic - and I assure you, it is WELL worth the drive out. Plenty of variety for folks of all ages, and plenty of options for the picky eaters you might have with you. I recommend going on a night where they have prime rib available, it's absolutely delicious! And don't forget to walk off your full bellies at the humongous gift shop downstairs, with everything from local preserves to handmade quilts! (Edit to add now that I've read through a few of the comments - the staff are ALWAYS this kind, the men and women who work the grill stations truly do take pride in their work!)

Shady Maple is awesome!!! Once a month the store does a meat sale. You have to buy whole roasts, but, usually ribeye and NY Strips are around $3.99 a pound. You pick out the roasts that you want and they will slice it to your thickness for free. I use to spend around $200 a month and literally have a freezer full of steaks, matter of fact, I’d give fresh steaks away to my neighbors because my freezer was so full. They also had whole chickens for around $4 a piece and boneless pork loins for $2.99 a pound. I’d buy a bunch and my neighbors and I would get together and I’d grill meats and they would make sides and we would have picnics often. Glad you enjoyed your visit here in PA. Btw, my great grandparents converted from Amish to English, so Gram always made great food like this, and Sunday meals were a blast with the family around. Sadly we grow older and family passes away, but, I can still taste Gram’s homemade cooking

I work just down the road from this place and have been here many times. We stopped having work luncheons here because everyone would eat so much they would go back to the office in food comas and get nothing done. That said, it is a great buffet. You can always find something you like but it is best to step out of the norm and get some of the true Dutch cooked items such as the apple or corn fritters, stewed tomatoes w/ lima beans, cracked corn, etc. Skip the ice cream bar since the bakery items are the bomb! Save room for the pies (wet bottom shoo-fly is my favorite) and the huge donuts. Also another tip, go to the Shady Maple grocery store next door and you can buy the bakery items, local meats, scrapple and awesome veggies all for extremely reasonable prices!

It’s pretty amazing they only have customers pay the difference between the breakfast price and the dinner price when they get to eat both - that’s awesome customer service!

@@leahstumme9568 wow.. really?? Wouldn’t it be great if Las Vegas Casinos did that? The lunch buffet was 39.99 during the week and $45.99 on Saturdays and Sundays. We were there this summer in July. Those prices don’t include tax, tipping, etc…. We stayed at Caesars Palace one night while we were there. We didn’t do the buffet (it’s only open for dinner and is 7500) We ate at Bobby Flays SW Grill and it was phenomenal.
