This Duke rocks. Its well done. The majority of negatives people post are about the head sculp. I think its more of mature battle tested type head sculp and far superior to the boy band looking video game operation blackout version IMO. Great review.

I like the fact that it’s based on the vintage figure rather than its cartoon counterpart

Not to me. The old designs were cool when I was a kid. Classified versions were a welcomed upgrade in my collection.

It does fit. I didn’t do it in the video but tried it after.

One minor detail regarding Flag insignia. When worn the blue field is always forward. But the reason people think it looks weird is for pretty much any US "Uniformed service" be it Military, Police, Fire, EMS, Sanitation Department or the Boy Scouts, the flag is worn on your LEFT shoulder. There may be many traditional reasons for this, but the most basic one I was always taught is its the arm/shoulder closer to your heart. When you see the flag in the seemingly reversed facing, it is always on a vehicle. Note the Flag on the Left ARm is a US thing. The UK or Canada may have different display rules. Their flags are also easier as they are mirrored left to right. So they are always facing the correct way, except when upside down. (and I don't think that even messes up the Union Jack)

This is the one figure I want the most right now, I was hoping this would come soon but I just got my 2 Action Sailors, 2 Action Soldiers today, just got charged for my 3 Tele-Vipers, 2 Quick Kicks, 2 Big Boas, 2 Airbornes and 2 Metal-Heads so this month has been quite expensive for me. Would have rather had Duke and Airborne, the others can wait. Once again, F#$K that crappy multi -lingual file card. I actually liked the Classified Duke head sculpt but same this one looks good, would have loved if they gave us the “O” face Head sculpt and American Flag that he can carry that would have been epic! Keep calling these G.I. Joe Classified Retro figures, love it since I saw someone in the comments section of your Recondo review crying about this, what a bum! Love this figure, Duke will always be the true leader of the Joes, Hawk and Flint can suck it, Duke just screams America. The only thing I will be changing on the figure are replacing the boring weapons/accessories with some Gridiron goodness. Great review of the “G.I. Joe Classified Retro” figures but shame on you as well for not being a Duke fan, when you see him you should automatically start singing the song “America F@&k Yeah!”

I like this retro version better than the classified version. The head sculpt is perfect overall than the classified. This retro is more closer to the filmation than the classified one lmao. I do hope we a retro Flint and Cobra Commander from this line. I am waiting for mine from bbts. Good video sir.

Haha tell me more about this lawyer. So I didn’t have an issue with the original, but as time went on she really needed an update and I think this one does that nicely.

This release blows away the first Classified Duke. That one was so awful it turned me off from Classified entirely until the course corrected with Retro and more retro inspired modern interpretations. Scarlett too. And Gung Ho.

Can't wait to get him, he looks great!

Lawrence, I am slowly catching up with your GI Joe reviews. Your review of Duke is excellent. I think that this version of Duke is one of Hasbro’s best.

That is the correct way to wear the American flag post 1986/1987. It was codified in the 2003 change of Army Regulation 670-1. Prior to 86/87 (and almost into the 90s), if the American flag was worn on the right shoulder, it had the Canton (blue field with stars) on the left.

Where does he get such wonderful toys?!? Another great review. I think he’s got a pretty boy look to him like the O-ring. Definitely going to pick him up bc I love Classified and bc I never had this Duke growing up.

Agreed on the packaging bubble. I'm glad they went and thickened the card, but they missed on the opportunity to go a step further. As mentioned the bubble extends too far above the figure imo. I feel the accessories could be put in a separate tray and placed behind the figure. Also a white trim around the edges would look much nicer, and frame the artwork and everything else nicely.

Barely 2 minutes into the video and I can already see that his backpack is getting a dye job. Glad to see the diaphragm joint but it doesn't seem to really provide a decent ab crunch.

Great review. Right now BBTS has 2 Techno Vipers, Retro Scarlett and Retro Recondo ready to ship but no Duke so far. Of course as of the posting of this message Hasbro is about to hit me with Quick Kick, Metal Head, Big Boa, and 3 Techno vipers for sure. However I did not get an email saying my Airborne is going to ship tomorrow so I'm not 100% sure he's gonna show up. So I'll have to wait and see..

I kind of like the old Duke now, those figures had so much more detail and paint apps

Nice review. Helmet looks dorky and I feel like the old head is better. I’ve already kitbashed my current Duke, when this guy comes in I’ll kitbash him too. Valaverse guns and some gear from other joes and figures.

I kind of would have liked an extra head sculpt with screaming face. I mean he yells the battle cry so much. I too like the original Classified Duke. So this one is a bonus for sure. I’m gonna give him a jet pack I had bought. He will hold a laser rifle and US flag in my display.

I didn't realize he came with a second pair of hands. Nice.

Nice review but you've convinced me to stick with my original Duke. The head sculpt is much better in the original one. I prefer the updated binoculars that plug on his belt and take less space.

I don't know why but this figure is sold with a Ghost H.A.W.K. One of my all time FAVORITE vehicles to play with...across every franchise I had. ( I did NOT play with the different franchises together. 😑 because I'm not a sociopath trying to ruin dreams. ) Thie Ghost Hawk and the two fan under a "sled" that popped out of the top of a great bigger vehicle. Can't recall the name. Another one was the HE-MAN "sky cycle" ? probably NOT it's name. Came as the front of a tank esk vehicle kinda like a jet ski look with an animal head on the front. A predatory bird ? Perhaps a Griffin ?

Seeing this review made me appreciate the design of first classified Duke. The first classified Duke has an amazing sculpt but painted with unnecessary colors - if they try to paint that with the color swatches of this retro one, that will blow this one away. The Retro version has better accessories though. This is a case of Tiger Force Outback vs Regular color Outback - I was sure I would retire the TF version after getting the regular one - but boy I was wrong, TF outback is superior especially in the quality of plastic used.

Does this Duke head sculpt fit on the Classified Duke?

Looks pretty RAD to me. Can't wait to get mine in the mail. Pre-orders ship April 10th? Which is coming up pretty quick here. Think of how many more GI Joe figures we're getting in 2024 than 2023. It's awesome.

I think the first one might have the better head sculpt but I like everything else better on this Retro version

I have never been big on these 6 inch figures. I do have a few but I will take 3.75 action figures all day long over the new 6 inch figs. I will get this Duke though I do like it.

You can also open it at the bottom where you can cut through and flip open the figure from its plastic cage from the back like yojoe jerk has shown in his reviews on Duke

Can the visor be removed from.the helmet?

Nice review. Really like the addition of the flag laser gun and the helmet visor. Way to admit you didn’t really like Duke lol.

I do think this is the best Duke so far.

You guys have a super early release figure pipeline going on that the rest of us don’t know about who only order from the domestic based retailers 😆 he’s not even supposed to ship till next month, even with the drastically accelerated figures release kick hasbro pulse has jumped on with the March month of releases to date Good review. Looks great and I can’t wait till mines ship 🏆🙌🏾

This might sound odd but I want to get him and ship wreck and a few others for my birthday, can you do a head swap with shipwreck and duke, I wanna see if it looks cool.

The redeco of the original Classified release is the best. The one you have there with the gold and red really doesn't fit with the rest of the line and this new retro one is too muted in color it actually goes to the opposite extreme. The redeco 04 is the sweet spot in my opinion.

I love this one over the original Classified. I always think his upper head is way too small.

Ill probably give the laser rifle to Breaker since he didnt come with a gun

The face is a little cartoonish? Would have preferred a jetpack instead of the backpack. Otherwise, nice figure!

Thinking original Duke's head on this new body is the way to go. Not liking this new Duke headsculpt.

Definitely agree. I don’t think this head sculpt is horrible but I like the first one better but like everything else better about this Retro version.

If you will allow this, Mr With Toys, or can I call you A Punk.... In payment let your comment section be the place where the debate over the better nickname for Retro Duke's head sculp: Butter Face Duke or Friend Zone Duke. Just my way of saying you have a point on First GIJC Duke. It was only the weapon design and color\texture choices that let it down. But I am so much more psyched about the Retro Card line now; great review want at least 3 of Duke and Scarlet.

Retro's headsculpt looks more cartoonish. Also, Hasbro butterfly joint system is really bad. They focus more on the backward movement rather than the forward. Which is important for characters that use guns like the Joes.

How much did you pay for this figure?

$28, I got them from my local toy store. So just a couple bucks more than retail.

Dang he just needs a belt ,rifle,helmet upgrades ..Grid Iron studios will save this guy.

I love the design and the details. I just think the sculpt is a little to chunky. His body is bulky and his hands are huge. Its the same issue as the retro Firefly. Way too bulky. It seems a bit out of scale with the rest of the line.

Once you start playing with imports you realize just how ridiculous these tolerances are... the effort required just to move a knee on most GIJoes is so extreme.

I don’t think you can compare imports to Hasbro or other figures in the $25 range. When I buy a Mezco I expect the figures the feel better than a Classified figure. With all that said, a little heat if needed should get the figure loose and broken in.

His face seem so..... so... boring. He just seems so yawn or uninterested expression. Really wish Hasbro will give us two head sculpts. I like more expressive face when he goes attacking or in action or yelling out YO JOE type of expression. Having two facial expression can "never" hurt a figure. See the Jada's street fighter figures and Marvel Legends figures with their more than one facial expressions.

From what I’ve heard most collectors prefer their figures with a neutral expression on their faces. So maybe that’s why it’s like that.

@@kaylemathewcomendador6964 absolutely. Also in this miraculous time anyone who wants to can either make or order literally ANYTHING to finish THEIR personal character. It's kinda like my Brother"s exotic car dealership. He orders the blandest options because 1. They're much less expensive. 2. Once you modify it you're cutting out the majority of potential customers...the ones who want to modify into something unique won't buy someone else's vision. It's the reason custom motorcycles are so hard to offload and ALWAYS at a massive loss. Also true of most restomod or custom vehicles of other varieties. Hasbro is NEVER going to be able to give everyone THEIR Duke or random character. They're best bet is to offer one that's just bland enough to appeal to the most potential customers...and then the collectors will modify to their hearts content. Then there's the unacknowledged aspect that these people LOVE creating and kitbashing and modifying their figures. Sometimes more and sometimes less than they enjoy complaining about the base figures and pieces. People enjoy being worked up and "triggered".

If they would just loose those drop down hinges, it makes the figures wobbly and does not give them significant amount of range.

This face sculpt is awful. I like the classified better. Maybe retro waist down..

You can always tell a person that actually played with gi joes and had a big collection as kid because they do not refer to the old joes as the “O ring” versions. We just know what an 80s give Joe is.

Sadly for you those are 2 different teams that work on the toys and GI Joe is only getting this cause the demand has caused their budget to go up a lot.
