Ghost Train: Barnstaple to Torrington (Lost Railways)
Фильм және анимация
A past and present look at the lost railway link between Barnstaple and Torrington (Now the Tarka Trail!) Calling at Fremington, Instow, Bideford & Torrington. Regular passenger trains from Barnstaple were withdrawn on Saturday 2 October 1965 and the line was finally closed to freight in 1982.

Great piece of work and it just shows how short sighted cutting up the railway and no tought that Britain would grow, towns would grow and the need for railways as we move out into the Suburbs and beyond. Towns in Kent,Surrey and Hampshire with poor cross conection but direct connections to London so we rely on a poor bus service. We now are playing catch up re-opening lines even making Parkways with bus connections and huge car parks.
Absolutely superb, like the Kathleen and May, a long lost treasure revived. If you ever need a camera boat to track the riversides route, let me know.
Really enjoyed this , hope ro cycle the route in the future. Many thanks

I would like to continue that line unfortunately the maps I was working from predated the extension to Halwill!
Know there is one route I would like to see in this format the former West Drayton -Uxbridge ( west London)
More outrageous than sad is how closure came about. Not due to Thatcherite politics at the time (though this was highly significant) but to SUSTRANS acquiring it after British Rail moth balled the line in 1984,
