We own 2 acres adjacent to the Train Station to the North - We moved and have resettled in Nova Scotia Canada. One of the Acres has a Historic Goldmine on it - called the Watchmine. We loved living in Chloride and still have these building lots with City Services available to us but we have moved so much we do not have the energy or time to manage or a reason to keep them. Just a note - chloride was a wild town and keeps a lot of character. It was a wild west experience and we ran a Air B and B for two years and was very successful and everyone loved the town and its heritage.

My grandmother was the postmaster in the late '60s early '70s and in the back on the post office was the fire house. That is not the old school house, it burned down in the late '70s. The school had a dirt field where my dad played football, that tough. Most of those building were built as tourist trap attractions. My grandfather was a miner, and in later life worked at that gas station on the corner. He was also the water district well manager. I have a lot of great memories spending my summers in Chloride

I lived there with my parents back in 1947-8. My father worked at a gold mine (Samoa ?) way up the mountain. I'm 84 now. There was a BIG mine at the end of first street,, but was completely removed. Had a big hoist, many buildings, but the shaft was flooded. The tailings have been reworked for any leftovers. There was a heavy snow that winter and two mine workers from the Samoa had a role-over accident checking on the mine and one was killed. We were out of work then, moved away that spring.

The narrow gauge train tracks someone wanted to bring tourists up from the main highway four miles away from town. However, landowners did not want him to have an easement across their property so this grand project failed. A small two-lane highway ran through town in the early days but development of the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead meant that a four-lane had to be built. They ran it across open lands west of town and that is Highway 93, which is the current access to Chloride.

The "old prospector" building was a bar/ resturant. Make a right at the corner there and ther is a building on the right with a modern glass door... this is a resturant and bar as well as small antique shop. The food here is excelent and should not be missed.

About 4 years ago I did the short drive off the main road and walked the town. Ate dinner in the only restaurant and I had the fish dinner which I still remember as being really good. Signs around the restaurant talked of music concerts on weekends, don't remember who played. I remember the restaurant as being rather large, so I figured that people came to town when a band played there. I took some pictures which I haven't looked at in a while, but are pretty much what's in the video you made. Friendly people live there. ready to tell you about the town, if you ask them.

Thank you so much for watching, a few people still live in the town, some mining in the area still exists. For the most part mining operations stopped around 1930s to 1940s during WW2. And modern mining and regulation took over. There is a lot of mining that exists to this day but I read of digging tunnel they open pit mine or strip mine. Less worker labor, more profit and less dangerous. This is what I have learned finding these areas.
