The dueling scene under the tree with red leaves was where I was like "Yeah, this is totally going to get downgraded", but it's a pleasant surprise to see it didn't get downgraded as much as I thought it would.

@@somnia3423 Every game has some sort of downgrade compared to the reveal. When they reveal the game, they are not finished with it, so they make something like a stand alone demo of what they expect to achieve with the retail version. So basically, reveal trailers are usually not real gameplay, or at least not from the actual game. This can be seen in practically all games, but a good example is when they showed TLOU2 gameplay on E3 2018, where most of the things are in the game but there still is a downgrade in a few things and they confirmed that it was like a demo of what they hoped to do in the final game.

People are still surprised by downgrades when every single studio does it... when the comparison comes out for Cyber Punk lots of people are going to be triggered

The cutscenes aren’t pre-rendered. They just use higher quality assets and facial animations than gameplay. This is obvious because Jin wears whatever outfit you put on him during the cutscenes.

@@FingerSpazm I think they mean that they're surprised that the locations actually exist in the game. Some older E3 trailers/gameplay show locations that don't even exist in their respective games.

E3 versions are often run on high end gaming PCs on the highest settings, or just outright pre rendered. There is no way the retail version would look the same. The game is still a masterpiece though.

It's quite sad people don't realize the difference between a developmental build for showcase, and the actually retail version of the game which is probably usually 50 to 100x the size. LIFE is beautiful I expect RDR2 to look better the studio is waaaayyyy bigger than Sucker Punch and they have more resources. But SP being a smaller studio and what they were able to accomplish with this game is astounding. Plus this is a completely new IP with a genre that’s been hard to perfect, but they nearly perfect it with this game

Magical Fetus No, they're not. Most peoples PCs are less powerful or on par with a PS4 or XB1. Even though the internet wants you to think differently, the average gamer on steam doesn't own a $1000+ rig. Without consoles, the tech would still be about the same because a game developed to be played on $2000-3000 rigs would be catered to such a small audience it wouldn't make profit.

Doom (2016) and Doom eternal both improved on there initial graphics they showed off before release. But yeah most companies tend to downgrade there game.

It's downgraded for sure. The reflection, volumetric fog, draw distances, specular lighting, foliage and texture seems scaled down and the color in some instance looks abit washed out... For instances, in the E3 demo, the grass had a beautiful cinematic specular lighting effects when it's raining and the assets quality had lower polygon overall than the E3 demo (such as rock and trees) along with abit blurry textures compaed to what modern open world game released out there such as horzon zero dawn and red dead redemption 2. Regardless, the game itself is a technical marvel without a doubt...

Yeah the changes were 100% not about the loading times, it was about the PS4 not being able to handle better graphics and still maintain a playable framerate. Hopefully PS5 can fix that.

@@williammcpherson9222 I don't think it would be that much work if it was already in the E3 demo. Chances are those graphics settings are already in the game but disabled (like Watch Dogs). For PS5 they could just unlock them all at Sony's request.

Jin's facial expression feels a lot more alive in the E3 '18 especially his eyes it has souls and emotions.

The game's facial animations leaves too much to be desired, compared to L.A Noire and Half Life 2

The game is still beautiful and fun to play. Even the little unlockables are neat to achieve and that I already unlocked all stances, all charm slots, got 8 Resolve and unlocked most of the techniques. Collecting so much stuff all over the world has helped me unlock so much stuff and upgraded all of my current gear to max even though I'm still on Act 2. Heck, even the side quests have substance to them.

I have the OG ps4 and the game still looks amazing. Can’t wait to play it again on PS5 when they update it.

For those interested, enabling Dramatic Contrast HDR could make the look even closer to the one in the E3 showcase.

@@mgiebus1869 Does it have dynamic resolution? A lot of games use that now and I'm too lazy to research to find out. I haven't played it yet but I know it runs at 1800p. If dynamic resolution is on then it will scale in quality to maintain stable FPS depending on how cluttered certain areas are.

Seeing that games like The Last of Us 2 and even Killzone Shadowfall showed really impressing graphics on PS4, I'm totally dissapointed with how this game's retail version look

Many of the cutscenes in the game are rendered in-engine in real time. I noticed you keep referring to the quality of the "pre-rendered" cinematics vs the gameplay. They'll still use a higher fidelity model for the in-engine cutscenes, but the cutscene isn't necessarily "pre-rendered"

Naughty Dog and Rockstar are fucking huge. They have the time and resources to get those small things time developed in time. I've heard that clean cut from gameplay to cutscene and vice versa are extremely hard to code in in itself so I wouldn't bash the game for it not having this considering.

Seems like they dropped the polygon count for the environment, removed the sub surface scattering, and refused shadow quality and LoD. Almost looked liked they tried ray tracing for the E3 video, but realized it just wouldn't work on current console hardware. Oh they also just dropped some of the extra leaves falling from many locations as optimization needs prob grew.

For me the retail game is beautiful, so why create a fake version for e3. They shouldn’t have to do that. Just show us the real game and people would have still loved it. It when you create fake versions and then release a downgrade, it’s just annoying. Not says GOT is not beautiful, it is, but I just hate fake e3 versions of games that the devs know that it’s not gonna look that way at release.

Yes, it is. It is looking like this with the second upgrade.

Honestly it's close enough for me. It's enough that given a few weeks between looking at the demo and playing the game, I couldn't spot any differences at all until they were put side by side. Which is really a win. I gotta say though this game blew me out of the water. I expected an alright assassins creed style game to fill the summer gap, but this thing was amazing.

The E3 graphics will probably be released with a "Remastered" edition for the PS5.

The textures are terrible compared to the E3, lighting is almost completely destroyed, and most features that would be in medium-high are also off, replaced with static ones. It does not look good. Looks nice, but cimpared to e3 not even CLOSE. It looks like a generational leap. Like the left is a remaster, and the right is the original.

nah... the devs already made the graphics/details fantastic as seen on E3, the problem is they have to downgrade (idk if its a downgrade, but for me it definitely is one) so that the ps4 can run it on playable frame rates... If they ever release it on pc (plsplspslpls) it would look like the E3 or better, no need for modders

Ive only seen the e3 demo once and that was when it was first shown in 2018 so I also didnt notice the downgrades. Came here to see the comparisons since I remember the fight in the demo was with a women during the sunset when I played Masako's mission.

I bet most of the people that are disappointed doesn't have the game. I've been playing it for 20 hours and I can't stop going into photo mode every now and then. It's aesthically pleasing to the eyes.

Nothing compelled me to stop my gameplay just to stare at a fake horizon, landscape and still scenery images of me dodging an attack with an incredible backround. I also have mordor and odyssey and no I didnt really stop everything to take screenshots. Ghost of tsushima makes me feel like i can advance in my storytelling and imagination just by looking at all the detail put in a still image.

No, it was running a PS4 Pro as you can see the disclaimer at the end of the video. However, what many fail to realize is that running these scripted vertical slices is not at all the same thing as running the full open-world game on the same hardware.

As many already have said, no one with common sense thought you would actually be able to play on the e3's quality. Ps4 does not have the ability for that. Also, much of what is showing in the e3 was simply to introduce us to what the game could provide with small hints, like the man with the flute saying it flute-play will be possible, or the wipe blood from the sword scene shows it is possible in the full game. Most e3 showcases does this, and it doesn't require a rocketscientist to realize that is simply for gamers to gain initial interest for the game. In comparison to most games that has jebaited us, at least Ghost of Tsushima stayed as true to their e3 showcase as possible. What i Do expect is a remaster on ps5 that will have the same graphic in-game as the e3 visual showed.

​@@ChrisE-iy7ok I dont think you can buy new pc hardware that is as weak as the base PS4 today. If thats what we can buy now what could Sony have a few years ago. Like the PS5 graphics is weaker or on par with a 4 year old consumer PC card in terms of raw processing power. Yes Sony will have some custom work in theirs to make it faster when actually playing new games but straight up raw power its a 4 year old PC card. So yeah its possible that it was a high end PC build with excessive features built for future games. Like that physics interaction with the character and wind with the plants/trees of that detail with that cpu and gpu combo would be a nightmare to render

This game is so fucking cool honestly. I figured it was going to be another Day's Gone (not a bad game but not great, maybe 1 stand-out feature) but I'm pleasantly surprised. Switching stances and throwing kunai after a stand-off where you kill 5 people one slice each, just pure bliss. It's super stylish and the world is beautiful and compelling to explore.

One thing that bothered me was how when you kill someone the slash marks dont appear in the retail build

Rdr2 has the BEST horse textures you can see muscle move according to the leg movement... but this game is jaw dropping on a 4k hdr setting beautiful game!

R * they are always ahead, their game can be played for years without being forgotten. and I only believe in trailers. Gun what do you mean it doesn’t have rag doll physics? It utilizes the Euphoria engine which is literally rag doll physics... except to a much more realistic degree (the same system used by RDR2).

Ragdoll is good in Gta 4,5, Rdr1,2, dying light, rage2 and bad ragdoll found in far cry, AC, Cod, Bf, TW3. As for the above game, please repeat that it doesn't use ragdoll.

Turning on the ingame dramatic contrast and cranking the brightness setting up to max makes a world of difference. Looks amazing on my OLED

When you say pre-rendered, are you strictly referring to the E3 showcase? Because the cutscenes in-game are not pre-rendered.

Forgeting about the Downgrade or E3 won't help. Remember Watch_dogs

The lighting if the sun is way too strong in the retail game and it kills it for me. And the colors get blinding in the retail aswell from the lighting.

I just wish they would have kept in a few of the kill animations like when Jin rips out the throat of an enemy or cutting off limbs with out having to be in the ghost stance

by the way, in the settings you can change contrast to 'dramatic' and this makes a huge difference (makes it look less foggy) and makes it look similar to the E3 demo EDIT: the dark sections are actually dark and balanced quite well with the lighting

I almost wish there wasn’t as much particle effects. Would probably improve performance, especially on base PS4

I wish you could turn off button prompts/reminders. I put my HUD on expert mode thinking it would remove it. Prompts/tips/reminders all still pop up. I just like having nothing on the screen and everything in the menu for extra immersion. At least enemy health bars and the UI can be turned off so that's nice.

Honestly, I called it the moment I saw the e3 reveal. Im just used to NOTHING looking that good by the time it's gold. However, it's still great looking, and as long as the game's intact, it doesnt really bother me.

I have mixed feelings regarding the looks, they clearly sacrificed the foliage in favour of characters (understandable) in some of the scenes (not the cutscenes) the lighting was flat, textures downscaled so much they were blurry not to mention jaggy animations. Still one fo the best games of 2020 and the mechanics are solid,fun to play.
