I Bought The Ghost Dog's DVD Version in 2009 after watched and loved the film on Space TV Channel in 2007. I was looking for this movie over 2 years until I found it in Blockbuster the Ex-Rent Version in perfect conditions, so I bought the DVD No doub it.

"Hagakure" wasn't written to teach samurais to fight. many believe, since it was written during an era in which they weren't really needed, the book was written to remind them of how to remain prepared to fight. that's also why the book goes into the "spirit of an age" and how we can't return to it - the samurai had to accept that the world had changed and they couldn't go back to the old ways... which lead to the book being compiled from a series of discussions.

I like how he has this sort of mutual understanding with vago at the end, and vago dies lie a noble- it was always considered the right way to die in an upright position.

Chiburi - the act of shaking the blood off of the blade upon completion of its use and before resheathing the sword. Works well with the characterization of Ghost Dog being a modern samurai in everything he does.

He uses a Ruger Mark 2 pistol....an American gun based on a Japanese design (Nambu). Very appropriate.

Hello. BU means warrior SHI means death DO means way BUSHIDO means the way of the warrior is death. In Japan, the number 4 is also SHI. Many Japanese consider 4 an unlucky number.

Louie at this point wasn't terribly concerned with the mafia's safety anymore. Just his own. He somewhat expected this would happen hence his hiding in the bathroom when he knew what was going on. (Ghost Dog considers him to be his master)

Top ten best movies of all time on my list.

Great actor. I always admired his calmness, even in shooting scenes.

I love the way GD and Vargo show each other respect as enemies

Forest makes a great assassin.... the eye makes him more terrifying 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

I always found it amusing that even though Ghost Dog is a big guy, his actual weapons are a pair of small pistols.

Hear all soundtrack that master RZA built for this film, it is amazing. That particular beat is from "Strange Eyes - Sunz Of Man Ft. 12 O' Clock, Blue Raspberry"

There is a similar shootout scene in Seijun Suzuki's 1967 "Branded To Kill" film. Jim Jarmusch was apparently impressed by that film.

Mr Whitaker is an American icon. Slick and calm, easy action. Sweet movie.

i remember when i first rented this with my gf when i was like 14. i didnt feel this movie at all thinking ”what the hell is this”, and then this showdown came. it was great but unexpected given how slow and confusing i thought the movie had been up until then. few years later, bit older, and this movie is amazing and holds a special place in me and always will

I laughed intensely when he shot Louie in the same spot as a kid 😂😂😂

The movie is not "cheesy", it's a sad irony. The protagonist is a poor lost kid who found a meaning in his cruel life by adopting a culture from a random book (along with some visual aspects) that resonated with his feelings.

​@@neithere I think it's both tragic and cheesy. The motif with the cartoons and the way the mafia acts like man children shows us the movie does ground itself with self-aware humor but it's also incredibly endearing in the way it recognizes this goofiness.

The movie is indeed a masterpiece in every way; I just wish the ending was a bit different where instead of allowing himself to be killed by his master he rejected his master for his betrayal of him, killed him and went on to be a crusading ronin hitman using his deadly skills to help those in need, That would have been the perfect way to truly end the movie in a Japanese Samurai western style!💯😁😉👍

Considering how much of a wild card Ghost Dog was, I'm surprised if he really felt that safe around the guy (even though GD's did feel absolute loyalty towards Louie). Also it's a pretty big wager to assume that it actually WAS Ghost Dog shooting up the place. Considering the line of work they're in and all. Your POV makes good sense. But this detail still struck me as a bit weird.

The good ole silent suppressor. Too bad in real life they create smoke and you need to wear ear plugs still.
