Some vehicles have garage door openers built into the sun visor or rear-view mirror. These can usually be programmed to work with openers like the one on this gate. It would be worth checking.

Check this out: I've had a ghost control for about two years. It started squeaking and lurching. I'd clean the arm with WD 40, then lubed it with white lithium grease as suggested. My gate is on a dirt driveway in a desert. The squeaking got worse I couldn't find any usable solutions so, I decided to take a look inside the plastic cover of the mover arm. First I pulled the pins, then i rotated the plastic cover so I could see the Allen screws, it looks odd in there but it takes a normal Allen wrench, loosened all the screws, they wouldn't fall out, springs hold them but you can safely separate the two halves of the plastic cover a little over an inch. It's enough so when turned sideways you can see the threaded gear. (Sidenote before you take it apart make sure it's fully extended so you can spray down the threaded gear). As I looked at the threaded arm I noticed dirt piled up where the lithium grease had allowed it to stick to the threads. I sprayed the area with knocker loose thread cleaner through the plastic gap then let it drip straight down, then I sprayed down the threads with WD-40 to wash off the knocker loose and let it all dry for about 30min. It worked, no more problems.

You might want to consider putting your solar panel and electrical boxes on a wood 4x4 post several feet from the steel hinge post to keep it from getting fried by lightning hitting the fence. You would still need to disconnect the control box power cord to the gate motor if bad storms were heading your way.I've got a few scorched places on my gates and sheds from lightning hitting my fence and traveling around all the metal fence connections. Good Luck!

Good video.... question....Very nice......is there a system that may be similar but less "heavy-duty" and maybe less cost ......for a system that doesn't operate a heavy gate......but only operates a lightweight aluminum channel ( a single bar) that is located maybe 1 ft above ground?...and that goes across a home's driveway? I want the single, low, aluminum tube or bar..... as a visual deterrent for folks using my empty ( but "convenient") driveway as a public turn -around.

I have a couple of questions that I hope you see & can answer for me. I live out in the countryside and have two metal gates that I close in the center with a chain & lock! I live in a bad area for wildlife and have had illegals. My question is can it be hooked up fairly easy & will I have to build an enclosure for the battery? I saw you used a tote type box. Did you put the lid on basically making it weatherproof ! Where can I find one & how expensive if I am not being too nosey? Being able as a older woman & that's disabled I appreciate all the info you can give me or direct me to. Thanks!

Some have said that MM dings you for small stuff, hardware, locks, etc. 2) Is there an ability to interface a keypad, like fro UPS, etc? 3) Can you lock the gate in an open mode, like if you were expecting several guests? 4) Is there a way for the fire department to have access, such as a key, code, etc? Thanks!

  • @unitedwestand5100

Personally, I would have made it pull to close. Reason, closed is the predominate position. (It remains closed more often than open) The way you installed it means the shaft is exposed to the elements longer. Everytime you open it the shaft and moisture, ice, dirt, etc, will be drawn into the cylinder. This will cause more wear and tear on the seals, wiper, and life of the opener. (Even if it operates by a screw mechanism. ) Or, as I've had happen, ice forming on the shaft will bind the opener and prevent its operation. You will find yourself getting out of your vehicle to remove the ice and reset the opener after it trips out. PS, pour a concrete apron under the gate. (Animals cant dig n concrete)

I can see the bolt in the pipe breaking over time. As you gate gets older and stiff there is going to be a lot of torque on the single bolt.

I added a u bolt that goes around the whole pipe and holds the mount in place. I didn't trust the bolt either.

Omg you don't need to mention keeping trespassers out 50 times. We know what a gate is for.
