Ghibli Style "MOVING FOREST" Full Procreate Process Walkthrough
MY BRUSH SET: gumroad.com/angrymikko
Longer form videos, tutorials and exclusive content in my membership:
kzread.infojoin
In this video I included all the info on brushes procreate colour palettes I'm using and the layer techniques that go into a painting like this one. Before anyone asks; I'll NEVER be able to paint something like this in a livestream. The amount of time this took just can't be shortened into a few hours. Thank you for understanding =)
I don't actually say this in this painting tutorial, but I'd really like to hear your thoughts on this sort of longer format video. This took so long to edit because of the rendering times so I'm not sure if I want to do THIS long videos again but if there's a demand for them I'm certainly open to the idea of putting myself through this again XD

    How do you avoid getting lost in detail and noise?

  • @angrymikko

    I guess the most important tip for this is never spending too much time zoomed in. As you can see in this I often zoom out way more than is necessary for the screen. When squishing all the details that way it’s easier to work on the whole painting.

    I like how you copy and paste the houses, cut time short is a great technique that I think no one should feel ashamed of, plus you add in paint strokes that make them different anyways. Another great video.

    The best part about doing a character like this one is that once you work on enough details the character slowly reveals it's true personality and you get to know it through the process of painting =)

    This is insane !!!!!! So amazing 😍😍 thank you for the explanation and tips. Just wanted to know if you painted every shade of Grey and Green on separate layers? And if so, do you merge the layers in the end or leave them separate?

  • @angrymikko

    @angrymikko

    4 жыл бұрын

    This painting due to the complexity of it had way more layers than my art usually does. The moving forest is one layer, the ground and mountains are a separate layer too and I used an additional layer for clouds. Everything else is flattened down as soon as possible to avoid that weir cut and paste look that comes from using layers even the foreground fog was flattened with the 2 layers below before I moved on to the edit phase. This print is very high resolution so that to me is the priority when figuring out the workflow for something as complex as this.

I am using small iPad and it allows around 5000 x 5000 px max. It is still big enough for the beginners but was wondering ... maybe 7500 px is allowed only on bigger tablets. :/ ... sorry have no idea about technical stuff ... :D

  • @angrymikko

    @angrymikko

    4 жыл бұрын

    The new iPads allow a bit bigger sizes. The resolution is always context sensitive to the purpose of the piece and the amount of layers it requires. This is not a detail anybody should get stuck on. If you’re mostly producing art for the screens then 5kx5k is more than enough.

    Insane man! May I ask how many hours you have put into this? I recently got myself an iPad Pro and I started to draw / paint on it, sometimes 6 hours just fly bly like that. But, I guess you spend about 10x that amount. Sometimes I think, what am I doing? But it's good, otherwise I'd be playing video games lol.

    I like playing videogames too but those 2 activities aren't filling the same needs for me. I think I painted this on and off for around 6 hours. I usually work in chunks of 45 to 60 minutes to keep the work progressing. I don't really have the luxury of working on one piece for too long since my small online presence would just totally die if i didn't work on my youtube channel too.

    Hi, sometimes it takes a few minutes for the email to be sent out by Gumroad. It contains the download link so I also recommend checking your junk folder in case it went there. Even if you accidentally delete the email you can still always download all of your purchases in your library section. It is at gumroad.com/library let me know if you need any further assistance

    Wonderful piece and video! I was wondering if you could male someday a series in which you explain a detail. For example how you paint a tree, or a lake, or a house. However you always have magnificent skills!

    I've covered few of those topics already and I'm sure I'll make more of those focused videos in the future too. The cloud tutorial linked in this video is one of those free classes where it's just focused on doing that one thing. The only thing I can already tell I have a problem with is branding it into a preset format. Being able to explore different ways of making these videos keeps it fun for me but if it starts feeling too much like work I know I'd have to quit for my own mental health. Even IF these videos were monetised I'd still be making less than a dollar per day so I really have to be careful of protecting that enthusiasm I have for keeping this small channel alive.

    It's the same brush that I kept editing throughout the process to match the needs of painting faster. During my latest video I painted the whole thing with the same brush without having to edit that brush even once.
