    I bought you Mastering Sky Painting Secrets course and this additional course is so gracious of you, thank you! One question, I saw you have a course on Domestika, "Painting in Procreate: Reimagine Your Surroundings". Is this the same material as in this additional course or is this new stuff? If it's different, I will be buying it ASAP.

    I just got the course and have watched the first few videos and it’s incredibly informative! I’m tired of sketching and am very excited to get into painting 😊 It is odd that I have the newest M4 iPad Pro and it says the download file for the artwork in the sky painting course is too large, though. Any ideas?

    It may be that I have only 8GB of ram 😂

  • @angrymikko
    @angrymikko2 күн бұрын

    @IIIredbawlzIII the ram is weirdly tied to the storage of the unit. I have 16gb on M1 iPad because I have the 1tb version. I included several different sizes of the procreate file for different devices so make sure you are opening the smallest one. BUT this file is only there to demonstrate the layer structure lesson. All of that information is clearly visible and narrated in that lesson as well. The procreate file is not at all important to derive that information in that segment as the process is outlined in the workflow tutorial as well. If you do have any questions about this though then by all means don’t hear to ask me. I’ll try to help with any issues you might have 🐻

    @@angrymikkoit is odd but another way Apple can eek out another $400 lol. It worked on me. I just returned the 512. The 1TB will be here on Wednesday 😂 Thank you so much for your detailed response. It is much appreciated!

    @IIIredbawlzIII maybe it works for general public but at least to me it would be a better strategy to advertise that the higher priced ones have more than extra storage. It makes just disk space seem insanely overpriced but I guess someone at apple thinks RAM is too technical to say in their infomercials 🤷🏻‍♂️

    @@angrymikkoI agree completely. I’m glad I had trouble with that file. I’ve always been willing to spend extra to get more headroom for future projects and I guess I just blanked on the fact that I needed to buy at least the 1TB version of the iPad to get it.

  • @angrymikko
    @angrymikko2 күн бұрын

    In both of the courses you make the artwork from scratch. The procreate file given in the first course (in various sizes for different devices) is merry to show the layer structure outlined in one of the lessons. That is shown fully in the lesson video as well and as such the file itself is not at all necessary to complete either of these projects.

    @@angrymikko thanks for the quick response! I went ahead and purchased (yay) last night and figured that aspect out. I know some courses rely on their examples so I wanted to be sure, but I’ve wanted the course since you originally relased it. Just an fyi for anyone who has a gen 8 ipad you need the mini-example for looking at the layers. I don’t have the option for a lot of layers if I want bigger projects so mostly I’ve learned to use a small amount of layers wisely, hopefully that works in this case because the type of atmospheric/landscape type painting you do is what I’ve wanted to learn since forever, but digital painting is hard for me for some reason. I haven’t had my ah-ha moment…yet. Wish me luck with your course and thanks for all your hard work! You really are a great person/teacher. Oh and I love the color palettes. Will help until I get better at color theory. Please also keep in mind I am an abstract artist and really have very little skill at drawing or painting (people,places, things, animals, etc you name it). I am well and truly a beginner, a very determined one. So hopefully this course is the key.

    Don’t worry about layers. Both of the projects use a LOT of layers but both of them have plenty of layer management tricks to get around hardware limitations. In the second project I intentionally pushed the resolution and complexity to the limits of my hardware to show in multiple areas like screen layers and environment groups how to manage the workflow so that you can keep the relevant selection and editing options open. Even when you hit those layer limits. ☝️ Glad you’re enjoying the palettes! Seriously I’m happy I made them but those were… a lot 😅 Super handy for getting started though : )

  • @angrymikko
    @angrymikko8 күн бұрын

    Master Sky should be the place to start and then move on to Building on Fundamentals. Domestika courses have their own production rules which make them short and in my understanding very project oriented so it’s a bit different audience too. They have a pretty strict time limits for lessons but for my own course I can decide those on my own since I did all of the editing too. If you have access to all three I’d suggest doing them in order of: “sky” “building” and then domestika since you can use all the techniques making the project as challenging as you like.

    You should use whichever mode fits the value range of your paintings. If you tend to paint too dark choose light if most of your colour editing is to deepen the shadows then choose dark mode. Neither is a crime.

    Just had this realisation today... I am specifically studying illustration, failed animation before that (the teachers managed to make me regress in drawing style, and besides that I had my body sabotaging me) First year I got a lot better really fast and really liked using ink. All the tasks I did well in I used ink. But there is a little disabilty hanging over my head. My hands tremble, an essential tremor. Ussually people get diagnosed when they are 40 and I got diagnosed at 19... I have medication for it but I was afraid to be too dependant on it and asking a new prescription is not always convienient. I became afraid of using ink because especially brushes go unsteady very easily and it's hard to work arround a big line that's just messy, especially if you tend to draw very detailed and anatomically correct. Mistakes can't be written off as a stylisation. I started doing digitally a lot because it has tools that can correct my hand tremor and I'm okay at it but still a long way from the amount feeling I have with ink. Also, okay isn't good enough in art school as a lot of other art students probably know extremely well- I was very scared to use ink because I don't know how bad my tremors are gonna be as I grow older, they are already worse. Every art student has probably heard that you need to develop your own style (and then gets told their own style is shit...) and I thought I didn't really have one, floating between materials and being okay at most of them (except oil pastels, those can stop existing and it would make my life easier cause there is no reason for teachers to ask using it that much). I recently got a higher dose of the medication because the trembling has already gotten worse over 4 years later and I did a little ink doodle and realised that I did have a style, using ink and comic like shadows and lines has always been my favoured way. So now I'm trying to meet my deadline tomorrow doing the whole task completely different in only a short amount of time. Nobody will probably read this but I guess I had to vent it out.

    The reason why clouds were the subject in the first part was because they allowed me to cover the entire composition checklist in shapes that anyone can do. For colour theory, white is the most difficult colour for beginners to paint. In this course those fundamentals are assumed and they are applied to more complicated subject. For beginners I recommend doing the Sky course first as all the composition, blend mode, workflow and layer mask techniques apply to all kinds of painting. Not just clouds. ☁️⛅

    If you are already confident in using masks in CSP, then you can still use all the composition, workflow and design elements in literally any program. However, if your main pain point in art is the UI of CSP, then I don't recommend these courses. I’ve used CSP, Procreate and Ps for work, and the features used for painting in all of them are the same. If you prefer using CSP, then I see no good reason to put any effort into learning the UI of another application. In my opinion, it is better to focus those efforts on learning composition because that is the longest road in art. As an exception, of course, I can understand why someone would like to switch programs just because of cost reasons. If I painted just as a hobby, I’d have no reason to pay, for example, Adobe Cloud services.
