Fantastic Story with a lot of meaning. I personally thought your drawing was very cool and your own work. Also the charcoal on the outside was spot on. Whichever way you go, I think you should inscribe the story on the back of the guitar so it can be shared many years from now. Great job and I can’t wait to see the finished product!

Righto. Finished the episode. Sanding back was 100% the right call; when you were painting the primer I was screaming internally. Given how much attention you’d paid to the neck in bringing out the burl and beauty in the wood, it would have been a shame to have the charcoal and primer on the rest. Given the blonde wood I still feel a black binding would have given the same effect as the hard charcoal edge and maybe a burst of sorts, but honestly the final outcome looks great. Really love the idea of the cover to the electronics. Ultimately kind of wonder how it would have gone with some glow in the dark paint speckled on the body, such that it wasn’t visible against the light wood but turned up after dark. Would make the falling feathers have two different feels in light and low light. Did you use varnish or go a full nitrocellulose finish?

Hi, thanks for your comments, always so insightful. I'll tell you a secret, my original plan was to have a glowing background tht wasn't visible until you shut the light off.. so the drawing would stand in negative in the dark. But no matter how much I tried to get it to work on my samples, it just wasnt happening. Given more time I could have made it, I'm sure, but not this time. If I knew that this wouldn't have worked a binding would definitely had been on the table. I've been secretly starting on a twin to this with rosewood and ash that I think I might do a binding on to test the look. I used crystallac finish. I don't have spray equipment or space for nitro yet. Step by step.. I'll get there. Seriously, thank you for your comments and your candor, it really helps and gets me thinking. It's really cool of you to take the time

@@randmockguitars4079 absolute pleasure. I’m loving watching the whole process but straight up, love the way you brought this back but kept the elements you wanted. That concept sounds like it would have been really, really cool had it come off, but honestly I reckon the understated element you’ve gone with in the end works really well. Makes the cave component that much more significant, rather than an addendum to the wide use of that paint. With the final version of the guitar, it looks better without any binding, so ultimately the finished version is, in my view, bang on the money. I really like the lines and flow of the body. I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes in the competition overall; there’s a lot of strong entries but I really like the overall flow of this one. Thought you may have gone external to a hired booth for nitro but the Crystallac has come up a treat. All in all, my favourite project of GGBO.
