My husband and daughter and I were lucky to visit Yellowstone at the end of October about 40 years ago on a day when the vents and jets were going off in sequence all within a day. There was a gentleman there who was an volunteer geyser watcher. After seeing him several times at various geysers, he turned to us and said. "I don't think you people realize how lucky you are. Most of these geysers only go off in long time period between jets. Some only go off twice a year. You're seeing them all together. It was true. As we walked down through the valley below Old Faithful, the jets and fountains came on like someone was turning a great switch. We visited the geyser in another location next to the lake and it went off. We went to the mud pots and they were merrily bubbling away. This visit was totally impromptu on our part as we had just called ahead to see if we could get lodging at the last minute and there was a room available in the venerable Old Faithful Lodge. I consider this trip one of the highlights of my life.
