haha when Ian posted his (awesome, classy, minimalistic) solo on his J with flats, I commented with Coop's opening monologue to Diane. So perfect.

Tremolo after reverb…I had no idea. Excellent!!
For years, I never knew the tremolo circuit came after the reverb circuit in all the classic amps, which is what causes this effect. 🧠💥

RIGHT!
The cool thing is, he even found this in his song license choices - this is the exact tone from Little Green Bag, except Jan Visser probably recorded that on a Teisco bass with an amp that was probably mic'd with some room, 'cos you really hear the air of the kick & snare in the room with the body of the bass tone.

iirc that's actually a guitar pitched down an octave with a whammy pedal, but it does have this like cruchy transient sound (esp in the intro where it's telephone-ified) that gives a similar dusty vibey feeling

Love that tune!
Reverb and tremolo is always instant spaghetti western. One of my favourite guitar tones for sure
Omg spring reverb flashbacks ~~~~ OMG YOU BUMPED THE AMP STOP
I definitely hear the Twin Peaks sound in there. A little Fire Walk with Me action?
My favourite Tarantino bassline is Bullwinkle part 2 by The Centurions. Travolta spaced out of his mind in his car with this tune on the radio. I love that shit since 1994 :-)

🔥🔥🔥
The Princeton Reverb is the amp for this sound. The tremolo oscillates the power tubes, applying the effect to the output of the entire amp, including the reverb. Most other Fenders apply the tremolo to the volume pot on the vibrato channel before the reverb.
That bass sound is most famously captured on The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds in the song That’s Not Me

The Red Dead games also make a good use of that bass tone.
I dig that sound too. I play it on my hallow body Gretsch. You gotta have the just right tremalo sound.🙂

THE DOORS. The sound was Bobby’s guitar from The Doors.
That's a cool sound man, nice
Red Dead Redemption vibes 😂
Love this 💛
Baritone guitar is the best for this sound. It’s what they used in the Twin Peaks theme
Kinda cine noir suspense. 😎
Is there any bass trick Ian can't uncover?
i'm trying this!
hahahah this is rly great good job i love it
You need a Fender Bass VI - that's what the sound really is.

I get the same sound palm muting and picking with a sunflower seed on my pj
Just for a minute, I thought of David Essex, Rock On. But going back and listening, I don't hear it.
Red Dead 3 Soundtrack already sounds bussing
Sounds like Lana Del Rey’s “Love”
I ain't worried bout it right now
What’s a good effect to replicate the hollow body sound without having to drop money on a new bass
So cool
Could that also be known as “Twilight Zone Bass”? Asking for a friend.
Brilliant. Gonna try this.

I don't, but I do hear my weeks and weeks of red dead redemption
It almost sounds like surf rock to me
I was like; Isn't this the scott bass lessons channel, when I saw the thumbnail? Then I saw u, and thought "Oh, silly me, it's just someone looking like him", then I looked again at the channel name and saw that it was indeed Scott's Bass Lesson. Scott inception
Thought I heard a little Tame Impala
I think a lot of the sounds we hear in film soundtracks come from baritone guitars but I could be wrong
@devinebass

For sure!
lol maybe a real fender spring unit though cause each of those drips are the same pitch length
Does a hollow body make any difference? Seems like strings and pick ups (and how the player attacks the strings) are what makes the tone, yeah?
@devinebass

Hollowbody basses sound quite different to solid bodies! Hofner vs P bass for example!
I associate it more so with surf rock
one of the few "bass with a pick" sounds that works best with flatwound strings

Give a try to Bag Of Grins by RHCP, the intro sounds just like this
Do you have this as your Montana setting?
Baritone without effects
Give credit to The Chantays, and various other surf bands of the 60's for this sound, not a movie director.
