Getting Started with Mimic Creative Sampler in Reason+

Музыка

Mimic Creative Sampler is now available in Reason+. It will be part of the upcoming Reason 12 release, but Reason+ subscribers get early access. Wanna try it? Sign up for Reason+ here:
www.reasonstudios.com
As the art of sampling has evolved over the years, from early attempts to capture real instruments to today’s unrecognizably twisted sonic textures and hooks, samplers have evolved right along with producers’ needs. Mimic is the latest sampler instrument to land in Reason and approaches sampling from that decidedly modern hyper-creative aesthetic.
Ryan gets you up and running with Mimic by showing you through its controls and hopefully helping to spark some new creative and fun ways you can bring samples into your music making.

I've been a drummer for 25 years and was introduced to Cubase when I was 17 but never got into it. I was then introduced to Reason and Logic when I was 19 and never got into those either. 13 years later and I somehow went absolutely crazy for Ableton and have been addicted to it for the last 4 years. I've just decided to check out the Reason plugin and MAN I wish I had explored it more when I was 19. Better late than never.....

@deathknell5167 yeah that makes a lot of sense. I was coming in as a live instrument performer so Reason use of practical plug ins just made so much sense to me. Ableton just felt very geared towards DJs and live electronic performance that it didn't clock with me.

I just bought Reason 12 yesterday after seeing all it has to offer now. I'm a 36 year old going back for his Masters degree, so I got Reason+ 12 for only $99. Reason 3 was my first DAW I bought back in 2007. I learned so much from it. I had only used things like the Korg Triton before that, but that keyboard wasn't mine, so I had to part ways when I left my parent's house after high school. I only switched from Reason to Reaper in 2009 because Reason 3 didn't allow audio recording at that time. I've went through a ton of DAWs since then. Currently using Pro Logic X since 2018. But I'm happy that I've decided to switch back to Reason. And so happy I can now use all my plugins with it, as well all my outboard synths and drum machines. The reason why I also love Reason is the built-in SSL like mixer. I don't like using so many plugins. I value being able to mix on a board. Rather it be analog or a built-in one that resembles an analog one. Which is one of the reason why I used Cakewalk Sonar for years (in the past before switching from PC to Mac).

I was skeptical of what this new sampler would entail but gotta say I'm very impressed. 7 things I was very much hoping it had and 4 (3 of which NN-XT doesn't have) I know it has from this video:- Playing a sample up and down the keyboard without it changing speed, layering samples and transient detection with sensitivity. I now need to find out if the other 3 are there - tempo detect, tempo match and key detection but doesn't immediate seem so at first glance. However, if these features aren't in Mimic, it could be rectified if in Reason 12 you add tempo detect, tempo match and key detection of audio in the sequencer and allow to be easily just dragged into Mimic.

I’ll try to sum it up: It’s basically grain advanced. The sampler has no pitch recognition, so I need to know in advance what key my sample is in. As much as I like the functionality of this device, this is one important feature missing for a sampler. Imho. I was afraid, when they announced it, that this would be missing. I hope the new combinator is more thought through.
