I’m only 14 years of age whenever I’m at my grandmas squirrel or deer hunting by the road or in the woods I make sure there isn’t anybody near where I’m shooting. Are you serious? You let someone shoot inches from you and you do absolutely nothing? Obviously somebody said something to you about reporting it. I take it that's why you're telling us to be responsible handling a firearm. That does squat, zero, nada to the guy who could have killed you. Ever hear of 'Silence is half consent'? You let someone shoot at you and you did nothing about it. Nothing. You always report something like that to authorities! It's one of the worse situation that can happen in gun use. This is the kind of thing that gives people reasons to over regulate us. It doesn't matter what happens after you contact the authorities. That's out of your hands. He's found, he's not found, he's convicted, he's never found. There are things that official reports do over time. If it happens again, a pattern is established. They might be able to tie repeat events to the same guy, there's all kinds of things connected with filed reports. If it was malicious, the guy was drunk, he didn't mean to do it; that's all irrelevant. You might as well tell the shooter, "Way to go guy, you almost killed me, nice shooting!" Did you catch those other comments telling you it was irresponsible not to report something like that? Listen to them. Anything you say after failing to report this is rationalizing. It's lame. The shooter has learned nothing now. The next time he skips a bullet across the lake and takes a kid out on a boat sitting on that sand bar behind you, you gonna feel like you did all you could do to keep it from happening? Do you think the proper response from someone almost killing you is, "It didn't happen. It hit a tree!" Does that sound like a responsible gun owner. Every hunter I know would have turned white, apologized to the max, and tried to find out if everybody was ok. Look, it takes learning how to use a camera, filming the whole video, editing it, thinking what to say. It's work. I get that. I just wish you put a tenth of that energy in doing everything you could do to identify who is shooting into a lake with several boats and people on it. I'm glad you weren't hit.

I used to be a guide for upland birds and over a five year period I was unfortunately shot twice. I was very lucky to only have tiny tatoo marks and no serious Injuries. I always preach gun safety but you are correct no gun will discharge itself, actually Rem 700 were known to inadvertently go off without anyone squeezing the trigger. In all my years though everyone should always be aware of using proper back stops and when hunting be aware of the fact that one should never aim at an animal or bird before insuring that if they miss the round has a safe place to go. I have passed on game cresting hilltops because I didn't know what or who may be on the opposite side if I missed or the round passed through.. It only takes a second of carelessness to cause irreversible damage to an innocent person.. I know both of the incidents were very unnerving, I am so happy to hear that you were able to walk away unscathed. I am a little shocked that the earlier incident with the young hunter didn't bring a more harsh penalty especially if that was the second time. Good luck in your future endeavors and maybe ask Santa for some Kevlar gear to wear.

There are far too many videos about car accidents and shootings and all types of things that only include 5 Seconds of the action part of what happened don't even follow up to what happened to the victims or people that it happened to. Let alone a proper follow-up video like this. Excellent work I say

Once I went out to the desert to sight in my rifle since it was the only place that was 200+ m out. I put myself in a bit of a valley area with a raised hill, so I knew where I was shooting and a hopeful lack of wind. 45 minutes go by and a few cars pass, then I heard a bunch of fast gunshots. Someone decided they'd Rambo their AR in the desert, shooting at nothing and the bullets were landing all around me. I could hear the bullets land into the mud and dirt around me before the report. Closest one came to me was 3 feet from my foot. I ran to my truck, packed in my stuff and headed out asap. People don't think.

I was on the Black River in New York and me, my dad, and my brother. We were fishing a point and hear a few shots ringing out and didn't think much of it. Then there was a bullet that whizzed by so we all ducked on the boat and started yelling out. Then they shot again and it hit the water about 5 feet from the boat so we dipped out of there. Here the idiots were shooting illegally using the river as their backstop.

My dad and I got shot at while fishing public waters on the Mississippi, by Lock and Dame #6, near Trempaleau, WI. We were on our boat, fishing near some docks in the backwaters. As we were casting up by the docks (not fishing on the docks), one of the dock owners comes out of his house with a semi-automatic weapon, fired 7-8 shots into the water about 20 ft. from our boat, and went back inside. We got the hell out of dodge and called the police. The county sheriff was already on the water looking for a drowning victim, so there were 3 boats and 6 sheriffs at the nearest boat landing in minutes. They took our statements, got the description of the guy and the gun and the house he owned, and sent us on our way. Minutes later, we heard sirens coming from all directions. After all was said and done, we heard after the fact what had happened. The sheriffs called in backup. They got the MN and WI Fish and Game, Winona, Trempaleau, and Houston Co. Sherrifs Departments, MN and WI State Patrols, and a SWAT Team. They closed down the local trailer park, they closed down the interstate, the railroad tracks, the lock and dam, and the public boat launch on the other side of the river. We found out later that the kid's old man took the fall for him. They took the gun in question, plus a couple others, and they gave him a fine for unsafe discharge of a firearm or some bullshit. His excuse? He was shooting at a stick in the water and didn't see our boat. Haven't been back to fish there again.

You talked about ricochets too and the fact it was a .22. out hunting gophers 25 years ago my brother in law shot a gopher, hit a rock behind it and the bullet pulled 90 degrees and hit the bed of his truck. Take care out there. Stay safe.

you guys answered all I needed to hear when you said you didn't report it. I'm a firearms owner, carrier, as well as instructor and I firmly believe you HAVE TO call these incidents in to not only DWF(DNR) but also the local cops or sheriff. Who's to say some kids aren't fishing out off that same area one day and they aren't as lucky as you were and one of them takes a bullet. Being a safe owner/operator is one thing, but you also have to be a responsible human and report unsafe situations. All that being said, I'm glad to see that no one was seriously injured from these two incidents. Cheers!

I know this is a long time since this posted but I just saw it. I had a friend with 2 other friends riding together to another friends funeral. They were traveling through a country neighborhood when the driver heard a noise of something hitting the glass of the back window. When they looked back the friend in the back seat had been hit by a stray bullet. It was just below his skull. He died a few days later. There never was any info of the shooter. No one around the neighborhood came forward saying they had been shooting that day!! Had the shooter not been shooting towards the road our friend might still be alive!!!

Yes gun safety is important. My used to be friend was messing around with his 9mm and it went off and the bullet hit me in my face . People shouldn't treat them like toys

wow I guess a pickup truck looks like a deer to some people, glad you are OK we got sprayed by a buck shot one fishing landed about 20 yard away and scared the cap out of us and the shooter who was hunting ducks when he heard us yell.

Least they accept, even in hindsight, that the incident should have been reported.

By not reporting it the shooter wont care because there were no consequences for their actions and next time someone dies or is crippled for life.

They or he shouldn't have been shooting at a tree in the first place.... bullets can ricochet off trees... seen it happen while someone was shooting at a target nailed on a tree with a .40 cal pistol.... scary

2 bullets striking your vehicles in a year... By my math that’s roughly 2 more than you should experience in a lifetime. Never mind a bullet fragment hitting you in the head. Geez.... I hope that if you didn’t have a trauma kit with you and some ‘stop the bleed’ type training under your belts then that you do now. All the best & be safe gentlemen.

That's insane that no fines were issued! No enforcement action taken! What was the reasoning from the group that shot at the truck? Did they at least say sorry? I can't even count the number of times I have been "scoped" during firearm season on public land in Michigan. I mean, these idiots are using their scope...attached to a firearm...to "see what I am doing". Public service announcement: Your scope is not binoculars...don't do it!

I got shot in the shoulder riding my dirt bike with a 22 called cops obviously and they couldn’t find the shooter bullet only went in about 1/4 in. A bit worse then a flesh wound but damn it stung. Then I got shot at by a old guy who thought he owned the water when I was bass fishing he hit my duck boat twice with a 22mag . He was arrested and charged but I don’t remember exactly what they charged him with but it wasn’t attempted murder . Then I got peppered open day of pheasant season while i was bow hunting on public land after I had made myself visible to the guys pushing the field . That incident led to me almost going to jail because I got down and pushed the shooter and threw his shot gun into a puddle . I was beyond pissed lucky for me I had a understanding game warden and the shooter was also understanding of why I was so angry and didn’t want me to have any problems. I’m a lead magnet so i really don’t go on public ground anymore during hunting season. To many people that don’t know what they are doing . I’m actually surprised that there isn’t a ton more accidental shootings then there are during hunting season .

Something 'fishy' about this whole thing. Who doesn't report almost being taken out by some irresponsible hunter? Unless you secretly beat his brains out off camera afterwards, that I could understand. Starting to think this whole thing is staged.

Look, this is real friggin simple - "Know your target and what's behind it ".... There is no possible way to "dumb that down" any more than it is.. From the looks of it, not even a full inch more, and this could have been fatal....
