Hi Sarra, this is my first time to write with you and Nanowritmo. I am nervous. I am writing and illustrating my third watercolor instruction book. I'm including a story about funny happenings while teaching an on location painting workshop. My students will have a laugh, and hopefully my readers will enjoy the story. Ha! It's my first year, too! I'm so excited!

Love the Teal Alphasmart. I happen to prefer the Neo, but I know plenty of people that prefer a Dana. I've never painted my case, but every year as I prep for Nanowrimo, I think about it. I almost went for a red...but didn't want people in the coffeeshop to think I brought my giant "speak-n-spell". :) Happy Nano!

I'm in the same situation as you are re: not sure I'll be able to finish my current draft in order to start a new book on Nov 1, so I might have to be a bit of a rebel. But you're right -- NaNo is all about progress and taking your creativity seriously, and that's why I love it and I'm proud to participate every year.

I love the idea of being a NaNoWriMo rebel! As I’m returning to writing after a long break, I’ve decided to divide up the 50k between four book ideas I have. I’ll write some scenes from each and will hopefully know which I want to write by the end of November. Of course, I might end up writing way more for one idea and I might not reach 50k, but that’s okay.

Always my favorite! Thanks for posting and helping to keep us all excited and getting ready to write this NaNoWrio! I find one other thing that helps me in preptober is to shuffle, organize, and decorate my space! It refreshes my vibes and helps me feel resparked to get rocking on my next writing project! I plan to write again this year in Nanowrimo. This will be my second year. I do remember your chaos last year and prayed for you along the way. Last year my writing was based on my feelings being all over the place. Personal place to brain sump all the craziness in my life and heal my brokenness. This year I will be starting my book on a daughters grief after losing her mom. So many emotions but I know I have a story that needs to be heard and shared. Preparation I’m learning is key to a good writing process. Thank you for all you do and share with us.

I'm going to be a NANO Cheerleader this year. I'll be rooting for everyone and likely participating in local events, but I rarely start a new project on the 1st of a new month.

I am sooo excited! After life threw me a curveball in January which I am still reeling from, I am totally ready to get back into writing. So I will use October for re-reading and soft editing and preparing as good as I can and then dive back into my last year's NaNoWriMo story. I hope to finish it in November and write straight on into book 2 and I just know you will help me SO MUCH, so thank you, thank you, thank you!

Prepping My Life - I have tried many, many times to NaNoWriMo, always unsuccessfully. Middle school English teacher. For some reason November has been a drowning in school work month for me. Upon seeing the email from you this morning, I felt a shift. I'm even teaching two different preps this year, but I think it might work. I'll be printing the Preptober pages and putting them in a spare Happy Planner I accidentally bought in the letter size (serendipity!). Immersing myself in your videos really helps me feel like I can do this. Thank you.

So excited! I just finished my latest WIP last night and promised myself that I could relax once it’s published in the middle of this month, but since outlining is one of my favorite parts of the process I think I’m going to create a really fleshed out outline for my NaNoWriMo project. My last outline ended up being over 40K words so…I’m sure this one will be similar. I’m also going to try to catch up on all the other things I’ve dropped for the past few months. :)

My 16th book publishes on October 1, so now that that's done, it's time I get everything together for NaNoWriMo 2022. I do own the Alpha Smart and plan to use it this year to keep the distractions down. I've already bought new candles and a candle holder (thanks to Bath and Body Works' $10.00 off 3 wick candles last week...I went a little crazy with the candles...lol). Bought some huckleberry chai tea while we were on vacation 2 weeks ago in the Grand Teton and Yellowstone parks that I'm waiting to try in November. Still a lot to do, but I did manage to get the Preptober workbook printed today and ready for your videos throughout October. Happy Preptober.

I'm going to be finishing the second half of my first draft of my first novel. So technically a nano rebel as well. Although it's not a new project, this whole process is new to me. Completing my first whole draft is going to feel like a huge win and a great finish to the year. 💕

So excited to be getting ready for NaNo! I'm gonna be a rebel this year as well.

I use a giant desktop pad for all my planning and for notes to jot down while I am writing/working. I use it to write our my ideal plan and move things around without messing up my actual planner. Once I have it all figured out, I move it to my planner/planners. It is a great tool.

I've been participating in NanoWrimo since 2015. Preptober I didn’t find until 3 years ago and it has been extremely helpful. I'll be working on the 2nd draft of a manuscript.

Don’t have plans to purchase the Alpha. I do, however, own the Original and the Traveler! I’ve completed NaNo in 15 days with Freewrite. Amazing! Normally, I set my End goal as Thanksgiving. The Traveler is a great tool for vacations and airlines. And once they enable merging content written across all devices, it will be even more valuable.

I backed the Freewrite alpha! I had an original AlphaSmart and it was one of only two things I ever regretted giving away. I can’t tell you the joy I felt learning a company picked them up and, of course, improved them. They anticipate shipping July 2023. Thank you for the Prep-Tober Planner. Printing a copy now.

You're totally not alone! My October is earmarked for final rewrites/edits of the book I want to publish in January, so I really have to finish that by Oct 31st if I want to work on Book 2 for NaNoWriMo. I did some basic outlining prep for the new book this month, and I've taken the last week of October off work to try and finish the edits, so fingers crossed!

I am channeling my inner 'Sarra'. Writing on a memoir/family cookbook and if that goes smoothly, then I will go back to rewriting on a decades old story.

This is going to be my first year doing NaNo. I'm doing my idea called "Shadows Above, Shadows Beneath." It's one that I've had since 2010 when I was like 13. The idea has changed a lot since then, but I'm very excited to finally write it. I made a video about preptober, too! (Although it's not nearly as good as this one)

My goal is to do a major rewrite weekday evenings, and plan for nano on the weekends with a new storyline 😊

I'm actually planning Book 6 of my historical cozy mystery series right now (so great timing for Preptober!) but I'll be starting it this month as well so I'll be continuing the book during Nano (but probably not finishing it and not even sure I'll get 50K). Another nano rebel over here! I was trying to write the final book in my long running series but then an idea for a cozy wouldn’t leave me alone. My nano will now be split between plotting the cozy, finishing book 8 and then starting writing the cozy if there’s time. All while handling a 6 month old wild little girl 😅 Wishing you luck!!!

Oh I’m so excited for Preptober and Nano! I’m definitely doing Nano. I’ve been writers blocked for over 2 years at this point (I drafted my 50k novel in 2019 and have barely written a full scene since then) and I’m ready to get back into it. I’m going to be working on two projects. One is a revision/rewrite for that same draft from 2019, hopefully going from 50k to 75-100k. The second is a brand new novel that I’ve worked a lot into in theory with my friends. And I’m excited (and terrified) to put that pen to paper.

Sarra, you are so speaking my language! I am in the middle of edits of a book that MUST BE DONE, but I need 20-30k on another partially finished manuscript. So, I will use October to prep for a productive November - hopefully finishing them both. Thank you!

Thank you so much!! I have always wanted to do nanorimo, but I’m better at flash fiction. Lol. I October and November to just hone in some of my ideas and create one or two flash fiction pieces. I love watching things like this to get my mind in the right frame and get me inspired. Since have little kids I don’t get to write like I used to, so it’s nice to set a month or two to say “I’m going to write” even if it’s just journaling more.

I'd forgotten about doing this until I saw this video. I'm finishing up revisions on one book and may actually be ready to join the fun here...

I'm glad to be starting working on my novel and the process this year. Mostly because I always wait until NOV 1 to plot and I want that all figured out first. I think it'll be much smoother.

Hi! I loooove your channel. I’ve been with you since you were moving around and you’ve been such an inspiration to me especially with your love of organization. I have the Neo (just spray painted it pink yesterday) and I love it. I also ordered the the Alphasmart Dana because I managed to find one with a battery hack (the fear of losing my work is the only reason I never took the plunge) so I’m super excited. But I alsoooo did back the Freewrite alpha and can’t wait for it. I had the other Freewrites and I didn’t really like those. Something about the keyboards causing fatigue on my wrists and tendonitis, and the lag on the eink just didn’t sit right with me. However I’m super excited about the alpha. I know people are concerned about the small screen and the issue of looking down. But as a writer with adhd I find that focusing on a sole line or a small screen of lines helps me stay laser focused and I don’t check my word counts until my writing sessions are over. And as for looking down it’s nothing a little laptop tilt table won’t fix.

I am really intrigued by this graph paper plotting idea/template.

This is going to be my first year being a rebel. I have a story I've been working on for the past fifteen years and gave myself the goal of finishing the first draft this year. I worked on it for Camp NaNo but the rewrites are a lot. So, I'm going to keep working on it for NaNoWriMo this year. I'm a serious rule follower so this s going to be fun breaking the rules and doing my own thing.

This will be my first nanowrimo and I decided to start a channel and stream for my own accountability. Excited for this new challenge!

This will be my 3rd Nano and I'll be working on the same project I started last year. Something's just not right with my story so I'm using Preptober to go back through the outline, read a few craft books, and hopefully be ready to revise my draft in November. I'm so excited about your Preptober video schedule, so many things there that I need to work on. Thank you for the amazing workbook and another fantastic video!

I love my alpha smart. For all the reasons you mentioned, plus it’s easier on my eyes. Helps with fatigue and keeps me from staring at bright screens all day.

Yes - and you can take it outside and write, without worrying about having the brightness up so much it burns out the battery.

I have been trying to write this book for years!!! I will make some headway on it this year. I will make it past chapter one! lol

I'm participating, but my idea is up in the air at this point. I get nervous about November because I'm a big Christmas fanatic so I always decorate early. Hopefully, I will figure it all out, but going to try not to sweat it. I've been here before, and I know it's not the end of the world if I don't "win" NaNoWriMo. Also, I have one of those alpha writers. It's an older one I bought on ebay and it has a smaller screen. I may get mine out and use it too. Great idea for distraction free writing!

The Forest app is good if you want to use your phone to listen to music. You plant a tree for a set amount of time (pomodoro) and if you exit the app before the timer runs out, the tree doesn’t grow, but you can still skip songs from your Lock Screen without hurting the tree 😊

I'm writing my Christmas short in Preptober and the 3rd draft of my Camp NaNo project in November.

I have the original 2nd Gen Freewrite plus the Traveler. Astrohaus makes super high quality items

I was intending to do Book 3 of my "Hallelujah Praise" trilogy series, but I think I'm just gonna work on the rewrite of The Pact of Freedom, my Christian/Historical fiction novel. I need to get this book done so I can finally finish my trilogy series and later focus on organizing/planning my "Words by Heart Saga" spin-off series books. I first started the whole idea of my saga series even before the trilogy back in 2012, so it's a long time coming. But hopefully readers will meet my Cast of Saint Vincent, NY characters and learn their inspiring life stories someday.

I'm working on a Nano project that I've been working on since 2019 Nano that I want to write "the end" on.

I finally figured out my story I originally started 10 years ago, so I'll be working on that this year. Also, for the music, would CDs work? I know it's easier to just use KZread or Spotify these days, but if you want less distractions, that might work. If not, try using an older phone, if you still have one, and leave it behind you with the ringer off. Good luck with your novel!! 💜💜💜

I am being a rebel this year as well. I have a work trip for over a week in the middle of November and know I won't do any writing so it just feels like too much to try and squeeze in Nano. So I've set the goal for Q4 as a whole to get a full draft written.

You've given me an idea: I'm revising my play adaptation of "Persuasion" and it has to be ready by Dec to be produced next year. It may not be 50,000 words but it'll be a good goal. Thank you!
