Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

I’m so glad you two understand we tune in to see your day to day lives. It frustrates me when other content creators think they need to visit this and that. I tune in for the simple beauty of seeing a cat roll around in the grass or Diogo getting that extra scratch on the top of his head. I suppose I could watch Carissa weed her garden for a couple of hours straight. Thank you for this. 💜

Frankie off grid is my meditation every weekend. The animals all so happy, the garden so organised, the soft photography, fitting music, always calm and creative...thankyou for sharing your life with us all with this beautiful weekly treat Iwan and Carissa.💞
Hi guys! Wouldn't it be nice if all the things you want to grow would grow as fast as the grass does? Every time I get out the weed whacker I think the same thing. Years ago, when I was younger, fitter, and more enthusiastic, I remember pounding in fence posts. I never realized, until then, how big an acre could be! I had some great muscles that summer. Have a great week! Blessed Be!

The timelapses showing the light and sky changing are simply beautiful
So lovely 😊. Carissa, please do continue to show your wattle fence as it progresses. Wonderful that you have all the grapevine cuttings to repurpose. I believe Diogo is the most purely joyful animal I have ever witnessed. He exudes happiness 😄. Have a wonderful week. 🥰 🌼🌿♥️🌿🏵
So adorable how Joau wants to help Iwan prune the vines ….and equally nice to see is how Iwan indulges this adorable playful cat 🐈⬛
For moving brush pieces/trimmings from A to B, throw them on a tarp or sheet and drag them, much easier than using a wheelbarrow.then simply roll them up to keep them together if you need to leave the job half done while other things take priority.
Another stunning video chapter of how 'easy' life could (should?) be. As the old adage goes 'Never work with children or animals', your animals steal the show, time and time again - lovely to watch them. Thank you for sharing.

I totally agree but rather than 'easy', I would say 'simple', a life built on simple activities and pleasures, enjoying the wonderful gifts of nature. And without the stress of modern city living. But it's hard work and you two are amazing hard workers. God bless you 😊❤
Saturday mornings with FOG: perfect tranquility!

Agreed! I had thought he was more than ordinarily aloof for a cat, but he was the complete opposite in this video. He definitely wants to help out in the garden, and his pruning advice seems perfect
Just watching you weed and making the fence with the music is so relaxing x
Carissa, the garden fence you are making with the vines is truly beautiful! Lovely episode. You are both building a wonderful life together, you own land, have a home and are learning so much 🤍
Great to see the successful results of your hard work and perseverance. And hard to believe how quickly you will take for granted the improvements you have made as they melt into the landscape and look as if they have always been there. Walls of woven wooden material are exquisite.
Clarissa you have such a steady hand I enjoy watching you draw it’s so calming. Have a great week ahead
I love seeing the flowers in your garden starting to take shape and what a great use of the grapevine prunings, they will make a great fence. Good to see the sand arrive to make it easier for you to use your driveway, your tasks never end but you're both doing a great job, your property is looking loved
Your pets have the cutest personalities. ❤
That was so lovely to watch. At the time of looking at your sunshine (albeit rather cold) I could hear heavy rain battering against my living room window!! What an idyllic life your cats and dogs have, and I love seeing them interact with you when you're doing your chores! I'm looking forward to seeing the progress of the cabin and the drive (no pressure!! lol!!). I'm amazed at how many trees you've got on your plot of land, and how good it is to be able to recycle the off-cuts for things like fences etc. Wendy.

So immensely healing watching you. both puttering about your land. I actually cried watching you pulling weeds. One of the silver linings of the pandemic I'm sure many have discovered: finding hope and connection through the simple things. Iwan you are so eloquent and lovely chatting to all about the movement of your and Carissa's day. Thank you.
That's a lovely hat. I like the way you were working as a team although you were doing different things.
It's always a delight to watch your videos. I love the calmness and stillness of your environment. I am waiting patiently for spring in my corner of the world. It's still so cold and snowy where I live.

Such a beautiful shot of Albi at the beginning …..thank you for sharing your precious animals with us …. they have the best life ❤❤❤
Another beautiful offering from you two! My favorite 2 seconds from this week were the close-up of Diogo chewing on the sticky pinecone. :)
Hi, Carissa and Iwan. I love watching you two doing your chores on your land… see you next week❤❤
Beautiful as always:) Loved the teamwork for the grapevine fencing- such a great idea. Other fave moments were seeing the droplets form out from the vine being cut (perfect match with the music!), Joao jumping into the tree and startling Carissa, the sunset timelapse, and omg the ginko leaf being drawn with a fountain pen (major swoon)! Hugs guys.
Thank you for a lovely peaceful and serene video - watching you and your animal family going about your daily routine really lifted my spirits❤ One request: Could you please clarify whether the outcome of the trial sand delivery was positive? Yuan commented “Plenty of room” but it looked like the sand pile was beside the road and not close to your living/working area, See you next week!
Your videos always make me smile, So nice to see Joao again. What a sweetie! 😊
I love your quiet productive lives
I love your calm and relaxing videos with the cats as well as Diogo and Frankie and not forgetting the chickens. I use Wild too and its so luxurious and without chemicals. I just wanted to say as a subscriber that you guys have got a very special vibe in your videos via your way of way of creating a peaceful environment and a nice feeling watching your videos. You have a very unique style and way of not talking a lot but talking enough to interface with your viewers to tell us what's going on and showing us your everyday life there. I really enjoy your videos they are very soothing and calming. One thing I wanted to ask you though is could you say the names of all your cats. I know your dog's names but your black puss cat is so cute and loving and was in thid video a lot today. I'm a cat lover and have two myself. I have a blue Siamese boy and a all orange tiger striped ginger boy. So I would love to know your black cat's name and alll your cat's names. All your cats are so cute and I love how they follow you around and how you show your their antics as you are working around the property. Honestly they are so cute to watch and so are the dogs!😅 Oh by the way you guys are cute to watch too! So please tell us the names of the cats during your videos so I get to know their names I would really appreciate that. I love your channel and I know you guys are going to do great on youtube because you have a vibe that is just so wonderful in your videos that really comes across watching your videos.😅 👍👍👍❤️

The cats names are : Albi - white and ginger; Joau - black cat; and Simao - tabby. Albi - from the animal rescue centre; Joau - from next door neighbour, adopted Carissa and Iwan; Simao - a stray rescued from their local cafe where the cafe owners think he was becoming a problem…
Sounds like the weather we are having in Ireland. Really felt like spring until the 1st of March when a lot of the country got snow and really icy wind. A few days ago I was working in the garden thinking I can plant seedlings out soon.😅 how wrong I was.
Lovely camera work❤ angles and shots, great content as usual

New subscriber. You had me at the chickens. 🐓🐓🐓🐓💕
I have used a rammer quite a lot over the years for banging in waratahs to make a pen for my horse when travelling to events. As it is very heavy and jarring on your arms and back, I lift it above the post and then just let go. The weight of the rammer hits the post into the ground. It would go a good foot into the ground after about 3 or 4 bangs and not even a horse could shift it. I love your videos and your animals. Very relaxing. Good idea building the weaving fence. Hope it works.

@@FrankieOffGrid that lovely piano music at about 10:00 where Iwan is trimming the grape vines and at 25:00 mins
I thought grape vines were to be prunned during mid winter dormancy. That, along with planning the weather forecast does not show frost for about three days. That allows for the cut to cure. The sap was already running in that cut you showed at 4:50 of the video. Late prunning can damage or kill the plant. Of course, with 170 plants and no outside help that may not be possible!
@FrankieOffGrid
4 ай бұрын
The plants actually seep depending on the moon. We have an early spring here this year so February pruning is definitely later than it should be.. but the vines will still produce plenty of grapes without any pruning at all.. just the sugars will be less concentrated. My general rule is to follow the professional vineyards in our area, they know best.
A lovely life style. 😀⭐️⭐️
I always laugh when I see people use a post driver. The proper way is the easiest way. The heavier the tool the better. You lift it up and let it drop onto the pole. Let the weight of the pole driver do the work. You might be amazed how simple and fast it works without using your muscles to do the heavy work. Just a tip how to use the tool as it was designed to work. ❤
@Neilhuny
4 ай бұрын
I used a very much heavier one, too, in just the way you describe. Lifting it to it's full height above the post gave the best results of course. One day I lifted it half an inch too high so when I let it drop it didn't fall down on the post but caught an edge and fell back on to me. My head, to be exact, so it gave me a bloody head and a permanent dent in my skull 💀. So far as I'm aware there were no other effects, though it is possible I'm a serial killer, I guess, but have no memory of it. I was more cautious after that, but a heavier tool definitely makes for less work

Hi to both and your precious animals! Love watching your channel, peace and tranquility flows it seems not only through me but all your viewers. Preparing for winter her in the southern Hemisphere all veggies simply waiting for transplanting... What a different world we live in. Lots of love from SA
Thank you for another lovely vlog. Diego is so bouncy! I don't understand why you and other off grid people don't get log splitters, the ones that run with a petrol engine and split all your " rounds" into big kindling ready to use. Save time and more importantly your muscles and body. Marty Rayney and family use them. They produce a show called Homestead Rescue, off grid homes in the US. Marty lives in Alaska off grid. The cords of wood you would split without much effort would be off the charts! Have you checked out your weeds? I know it sounds weird, but many of them are edible/ make tea/ are medicinal. Well worth researching 🙂
