It's weird how being an introvert leads me to talk to MORE people when I travel. I get away from the crowds and find myself in a legit town where you meet the real people from a real place!
Thanks for having me on your Channel Nadine! It was an honor and absolute pleasure to hang out and share some fun tips and experiences. Yay Nadine. Don't forget ... Time - By the very nature that it is off the beaten path, there is not typically easy and/or fast transport. It will probably take some time to get to where you want to go, allow time. However, that is often the best part. Having a wingman - Travelling with another person when you are trying to head off the beaten path is more important than usual. Having someone to keep an eye on you, your stuff and watch your surrounds, while you do the same for them. But mostly, having another person that speaks your language to help provide some sanity and help make better decisions is really important. Food - Be prepared. You may not be able to easily find food. Any food! If you have special requirements (e.g. vego or vegan), it will be even harder. Make sure you have some snacks. Be prepared to go hunting for a while to find some food. See point 1. Gear - Depending on where you go, you may not have sheets, washing machines, first aid, water, mobile phone reception. If you are going somewhere that is really off the beaten path, be prepared for anything (OK, that is sort of impossible). Make sure you have things to keep you alive and be prepared to go without some comforts. Be prepared to carry a bit more water, food or stuff. You may not need it, but if you do, you will probably really need it!
Lol I liked watching your reactions to some of the things he said that weren't the safest things to probably do haha. Also kind reflects the way men can travel solo vs women. Some of those things are much easier/safer for a man to day haha
After living in Beijing, I realized that getting lost in the hutongs (the traditional housing areas) was some of the most fun I ever had there :) It's so crazy how in big popular tourist areas, sometimes you just have to go 1 street over to be in near total quiet.
Hey Nadine! I just stumbled upon your channel and I love your personality and all the work you put into your videos! Thanks for bringing them to us!
My husband and I are almost always off the beaten path.. Getting lost on purpose is kind of our thing when we travel. You find the coolest things that way. We always find our way back :)
I love hearing what you and alex have to say :) and yes traveling solo is the most enjoyable! And you can go to any path you want! i hope to go on more adventurous travels in the future :)
Something I like to do when I've rented a car someplace: When I'm driving to my planned destination, just taking a random exit off of the highway, finding someplace to park, and just walking around exploring some small little town nobody has ever heard of.
thank you both for the great tips! makes me wanna travel so bad!!
I've definitely done my own walking around tours solo. Just walking around where there's basically no one :P I get to see some really nice views though but it's a little lonely I'll admit xD But there are some paths that typical tourists would most likely never go through and that was real fun
Thank you for all your videos
Leipzig squadddd, miss you guys! Great advice.
Love it!
Excellent Tips - I always consider being off the beaten path as doing stuff the locals do!
I loves me some Nadine videos. She is so upbeat
ILYSM NADINE
Oh my gosh the chicken bus! I have some hilarious chicken bus stories haha
need to try some of these tips and explore things that are not as full of people, visiting famous places is great but having just swarms of tourists all around does make it a bit of a bummer at times
Nadine, you just got an indirect invite for a travel adventure off the beaten track. Out of your comfort zone maybe?
Loved it.. ^_^

Hi Alex and Nadine, thank you for putting this video together. I love watching all your videos. I start my around the world trip in March of 2017 and I can't wait. I think my biggest concern is going too far, or it getting too late for public transportation to the point where I have to find a different place to sleep for the night, and not in my hostel. Has any of this ever happened to you guys? Nadine as a solo female traveler, how do you handle it? I guess it will depend on how safe and comfortable I feel in that location. But seriously this is all I think about...... HELP How do you decide "ok it's time to head back" ?
