GETTING IT ALL DONE: Cooking, Chores, Home Renovations | DITL of a Mennonite Mom Vlog

#mennonitemom #ditl #gettingitalldone
In this vlog you will come along with me as I make time for friends, chores, my kids, my marriage, home renovation projects, KZreadr tasks, cooking, and MORE! The life of a stay at home mom is never boring that's for sure. In this vlog I discuss what it's like living "in the trenches" and how I'm being strategic in surviving and even enjoying it! I hope you get some motivation and encouragement from this video!

How I make my gravy:
Remove broth from crockpot. But in saucepan and heat until gently boiling. Add a beef bullion cube if you think it needs more flavor.
In a salad dressing shaker put 1/2 c. milk and 3 tbsp. of flour. Shake until foamy and there are no lumps. (About 10 shakes.) This is gravy paste. Slowly add gravy paste to broth, stirring continually. Depending on your amount of broth you won't need all your gravy paste. When gravy is a lighter brown and slightly thicker you probably have enough. Turn heat back to low. Add salt if needed. Let simmer, stirring periodically, until it's as thick as you want.
How I made this roast:
Put a chuck roast in the crock pot on high with a cup of water and a slow cooker seasoning packet from Aldi. Let it get good and hot in there. (If you are away all day just put it on low from the start. It will be fine.) After about an hour turn it back to low. Add diced potatoes and carrots and maybe more water. We love to add mushrooms too if we have them! I also throw a pepper (sometimes even a jalapeno) on top for added flavor. Add a tablespoon or two of butter if desired. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. I have made so many different versions of a roast. This is what I did today.

My husband and I learned early on that "If you do all the regular stuff, the extra stuff doesn't get done. If you do all the extra stuff, you don't get the regular stuff done". I think we have to find a long term balance, as in over a week or month, not daily.

"I'm going to be in this stage of life for a long time, I might as well enjoy it" That is what I needed to hear this morning! Struggling with this stage of my life in grad school, but this morning I will praise God that I got the day off from work to write my paper and get cozy with a cup of tea and my favorite candle while I type. Thank you!

I've found that if I threw a load of laundry first thing and then do devotions/quiet time. When it's time to put stuff in the dryer, I used that time to reflect on what I read and/or pray. it's great that you're able to spend so much time with your children....I was a single mom and always felt that there was never enough time (had to work full time while going to college full time) and had no help from family. Enjoy your time while your children are at such an amazing stage...it goes way too fast and yes, you will miss having them at home, even though it probably seems lime it would be heaven now!!

Loved, loved this!! Thanks Megan :) I am in a different stage of life (teenage kids), however, I work full time again and still try to maintain everything like I did when I was a stay at home/work from home mom. It really resonated with me when you said you need to be in each moment. I tend to try do everything at all times and end up going through the motions and not being in the moment. I will definitely try to be present, especially when I am with my kids.

You are adorable. You have a beautiful family! I was glad to hear you keep evenings for family and hubby time. A young couple in our church had been married for 9 months and “he” got sick over the weekend. He ended up at the emergency room Sunday morning and by Sunday night he was gone!!! We all were reeling with shock and sadness!! That was 4 years ago and the young lady has not even tried to move on in terms of relationship. My heart breaks for her. She is an amazing girl and I pray for her and her future. Not meaning to drag anyone down, I tell her story to other young couples so they don’t take each other for granted. You are precious and I like your vlogs!

My husband also owns a construction company and we built a house (still not finished, your own projects are always last) and married just 6 months. His family runs a hunting operation and his current job is 90min away, I've been struggling with feeling so behind with house stuff between a full time job and hunting season (we guide & cook 2 meals a day) so these videos are so great! Time and place for everything, the mess will still be here once hunting is done. Just remember you are only 1 person

Always great to see your vlogs! I can so relate to the busyness of you life! I am in the unusual situation of marrying 19 months ago ( I was 49 and never married before and no children). Now I have two children which I love and I feel very busy. My husband has his own business and I work outside the home as well. I was struggling with not being able to get it all done too but my husband said, "when you realise that it is not possible to get it all done, then you will begin to relax ". He was so right. He was widower and while his first wife was sick he took care of all the domestic tasks so he was speaking from experience. I also have a rule that I try to keep which is to spend time with the kids in the evening rather than keep working around the house. Thanks for sharing your life with us. I think you are wonderful and a great mum.

There are so many beautiful walks you go on :) I think it's perfectly normal for you to feel too busy right now, you have a lot of work going on in the house but it will be worth it, once it's all done you can relax and enjoy a beautiful room, better to spend time getting it right than rush through and have regrets later. The paint colour is lovely, we have something similar in our kitchen. I'm really looking forward to January when we get to see the finished project. Keep up the good work you are doing brilliantly as a mother, and a wife. :)

Sometimes we NEED to remind ourselves to think about and focus on the task at hand and not worry about other things when the time slot is alotted to a specific task like the mom time and child time. Otherwise we may not do a good job. 👍 The struggle is real! Stay focused!

It's so nice to find someone else who is in a similar life phase! I don't have children, but have been blessed to now become a full time homemaker, and have much to learn. I thought it would be so much easier not having to work outside the home, but really, even without children, there is more to do here than ever at my desk job! Thinking about the purpose behind the least enjoyable chores helps, as well as being mindful of how grateful I am to even be in this position. It really is a struggle to balance things, and I appreciate you sharing that and being so honest about your thoughts. It's reminded me I need to keep leaning into grace to feel less stressed about getting it all done. It will always be a work in progress I think, perhaps it is hard for us to accept. It is tempting to think if I just figure out the best routine, everything will finally just work out smoothly. It helps for sure, but there will always be new challenges and reasons that change our routines anyways it's ok. Thank you for inspiring me to not only keep working and improving things, but also for making me put some thought into the pressure we place on ourselves. Smiles from Ohio! :)

How about that beautiful patio!!! *swoon* her bebes beautiful copper hair is to die for. I grew up in an area VERY close to Lancaster PA. I'm so grateful for these videos. I love that you show so many different avenues of Mennonite culture. It's important for the people outside ouf any culture to see inside another, and you're doing and amazing job allowing us to do that. You're a peach and that Amazon video is adorable.

Great video! I love and appreciate the work you put into your channel. You’re doing a fantastic job juggling everything, at least from my perspective. My kids are grown. My baby is a senior in HS. Watching you, takes me back to those hectic , almost overwhelming, but beautiful days of dirty faces and sticky kisses. I never felt like there were enough hours in the day. I truly cant wait to see your house after the remodel.

I loved seeing you on A Monday! Your energy is endless..... I think you are so hard on your self! You do an awesome job at all you do... At least what is in videos and I can't imagine you are acting. I for one, wish I could do a third of what you accomplish! Thank you for all your time and sharing your beautiful family!

I don't act at all, but I do have to admit, sometimes the scene behind me in a shot will look nice and tidy, but one room over there will be lots of clutter that I'm in the middle of tidying up and I make a point of keeping it out of the shot. So it's not a lie. . . buuuut.

I think you’re killin it! I’m in the same boat as you... working PT & raising 2 kids while my hubby works. I’ve learned that dishes can wait till the next morning, a robot vacuum helps BIG TIME and nap time for the kids means work time or work out time for me. If it doesn’t get done, you can do it tmrw. Time spent with the kids is more important than a spotless house. Don’t get me wrong, I clean, a lot, but there’s nothing wrong with leaving dishes till the next day, a messy car can wait and slowing down to be with the kids is wayyy more important. Plus a house reno is a great deal of work. Once it’s done, you’ll be able to slow down. God bless!

Thank you for vlogging while out for the two walks, so enjoyed the scenery in both. I like you find getting out for a walk revives me and I accomplish more when I get back home. This was a wonderful vlog. Enjoyed seeing how you compartmentalize your day. So important to invest in the lives of your husband and children. Maybe shorten your to do list, so you don't feel there are so many things to do. You need time to relax with Josh. Date night are important too . How wonderful you both are enjoying the marriage seminar.

Yes I agree some days it seems hard to get all the "to do list" done with little ones (I have 3 children), but I've come to the point that I do what I can on my to do list & after supper it's family time & will continue on the list the next day if I need to. I am right with you on spending time with children, house duties & planning fun outings! I am the same way I need my sleep! Hope you can figure out a schedule that works for you & your family! Maybe don't make your "to do list" so long, haha! 😉

With 6 children, and a HUGE farmhouse with 6 bedrooms 3.5 bathrooms etc I finally found a measure of peace when I learned the phrase, "Progress, not perfection" ~ hope that helps. Love that gravy recipe that's a dish that completely eluded me until I was in the UK and discovered Bisto.

Loved how you were demonstrating how you wanted the wall and he was just sitting there, probably telling you why it wouldn’t work😂 so typical and looks just like something my husband and I would do😂 also I think I need to adopt some of your ways to get some work done. It looks pretty well planned to me

I thoroughly enjoy your refreshing videos and learning about your Mennonite culture. I'm not religious at all, but am fascinated by how others choose to live their lives. Regarding the demands of motherhood, I hear you! I'm retired now, but I remember the sometimes frantic days of trying to get it all done when the kids were little. I was lucky to take 5 years to be home with them before they started school. I guess the only advice I have for moms is to not beat yourself up or compare yourself to others. Life is too short for that and the kids will be grown and gone before you know it. Spend the quality time with them now, just like you're doing, Megan. The rest will fall into place... if not on your time table, it will eventually! The dust in the corners or unfolded laundry can wait. The human beings can't!
