    I was at Cloudbreak today and followed all your instructions after copping a few bombsets on the head after a closeout. Only tip I didn't follow was the one you said is most important - the first lip crashed on me and I went over the falls and sucked down to the reef. Foot copped a nice slashing. These tips were life savers mate, especially when I got pushed into the shallow reef, you helped get me out of there.

    The biggest challenge for me when getting caught inside is staying calm.

  • @GlassGenius
    @GlassGenius7 ай бұрын

    I been caught inside there to. I went to stand up and thr lip drove my face into my board, first wave of a 10 wave set. You end up lower than sea level and the boats can't see you during sets. Luckily another surfer just as he kicked out looked in and spotted me. I gave him the double double x arms over the head signal that I needed help. Then during a lull one of the Fijians drove his little boat in to very shallow water and picked me up. It was only a 3-5 foot day to. That wave is scary AF! It was when the tower was still there and I considered letting the waves blast me over the reef and try make it to that. I told that to our guide when I got back to the boat. He screwed his face up and said "bro, you would have been sliced."

  • @bgw9906
    @bgw99069 ай бұрын

    great stuff- so on a mid size or bigger wave, when you straighten out is it best to ride it in as far as possible? Bailing early on isn't an option? Even assuming there may be a bigger one out the back?

    I was at Cloudbreak with JOB years ago; it was smaller but still pushed me down to shikabobs; but JOB would get right back out after taking off too deep . He later told me he would paddle up reef (away from the channel) into what he called ‘the lagoon ‘and duck dive smaller/mushier whitewaters and wait for the set to clear.

    No one wears booties these days. I guess it's because they don't feel that comfortable, and possibly because they don't look very cool. The advantage of booties is fairly obvious when you have to walk on the reef, but the other advantage is when you wipe out when it's shallow. You can put your feet down rather than getting your back shredded on the reef. It can take one small cut on your foot when you're in the tropics to ruin your trip. I dunno, a bit of a head scratcher for me.
