getting a little bit better every day 💜 (2 months after my op)

After my double mastectomy (I'm BRCA2 positive) I was told I'd need to rest/recover for 4-6 weeks... and this video starts at 6 weeks into my recovery! I'm definitely getting there, but even after 9 weeks, I can tell I've still got a little way to go. Here's how I've been getting on trying to get back to normal, including Foodies Fest in Maidstone, The Allergy and Free From Show in London and a little update at 9 weeks in!

I am having a single mastectomy in 7 days. I’m 30 and have breast cancer in my left breast. Seeing your journey has made me feel much better about the whole journey. Great to see after two months things start looking up. Great too see the drains as I had no idea about them ! Thank you for posting this its really helpful ❤

I was asked to do a talk about my breast cancer experience for Wales Cancer Bank years ago. I was interviewed by Nick Ross ( Crimewatch ) as he had a connection with the Cancer Bank. My breast tissue was used for research. I requested both my breasts to be removed. One had cancer, the other didn’t. So they had good comparisons to work with. I’m always willing to talk to anyone that needs reassurance about surgery. You’re doing fantastic Becky. X 🥰

PS: Some breast cancer groups are negative as you say Becky. When I went through cancer, I had breast cancer website groups with chat forums to turn to. I didn’t have Facebook or KZread then. Certainly dip your toe in the water as you might make a few friends that have gone through the same as you. But avoid negative people. You’ll encounter them everywhere. They don’t help. You need encouragement and positivity. And there’s plenty of people like that around. xx

Just go with the flow Becky, there will be ups and downs, allow yourself to feel crappy, because you've been through a massive life event. Once you got through the surgery and recovery sometimes it's afterwards when the reality hits, that's what I found after a similar event, I fell apart but gave myself permission to feel that way and then gradually came good. I also found with me anaesthetic can make me depressed so I am prepared whenever I have it and head it off. Life is tricky but you are amazing, keep smiling and remember to chill out when you need to. All the best. 💐💖

Hi Becky, thanks for another great video! I'm nearly 2 and a half weeks post op (BRCA1) and shared your videos with my breast care nurse in my pre-assessment appointment because I've found them so useful. Glad to see you're doing so well, I think it's really normal for the psychological stuff to come later as straight after surgery you go into survival mode and have the physical stuff to focus on. I too left the Facebook BRCA support groups soon after joining as I found them too intense and stressful. I live in London so I'll definitely look in to the BRCA group that meets. Lots of love xxx

Here from the US. I preordered your new book some time back and I am getting so excited for it! I don't enjoy cooking, but your foods are easier and delish which make it less humdrum.

Talking about it does help a lot!l I am coming up to 2 years in November after surgery (different to yours but due to the big C) on my face and I am so comfy talking about it now, as it is visually obvious to anyone, and itnreally does help to talk. I just want to say even though my situation is different to yours its still just as you said, I never saw it coming. So i want to say 2 things dear Becky, first you have inspired and encouraged me the along the way you are so honest and real about it. People say I’m brave but I’m just me, just like you are, so thank you. Secondly please please let your body guide you, you really are very early post op, I also still need a nap or a day to chill now and then, even 19 months on. Enjoy the free from show, I will get there one year! Lots of good wishes xx

Also I typed that as you were about to goto the free from show. Now further into the video and I relate to the fact that yes we do have these emotional times, after something big happened to us. I am also blessed to have had my surgery (life saving), but I do still feel emotional some times, like you say, I am here we are human so do just go with flow including your emotions, and what you say is never boring xxx

Wow .. your feed came up because of the “breast cancer” .. tomorrow will be 2 months post double mastectomy. I found my lump by accident as I was in the garden and thought bee had bit me on my breast. No bee invasive, ductal carcinoma. No radiation and chemo at this time yet, but found out I have CHEK 2 gene. The weird thing is after looking at all your posts. My husband has the BRCA2 gene and also is a celiac. That always makes me wonder if they’re tied together. Cheer to you and your journey.
