My friend, I consider myself somewhat of a Gethsemane snob…I’ve heard them all. I always preferred Neeley’s version…but then…I heard you. My god man! You absolutely OWN this song! One of the most difficult songs in stage history, and keep in mind, EVERYONE compares the vocalist to a dozen other versions and you blow past them. The body of your voice, the nuances, your range…and not just because you have a remarkable way of delivering the song, others can hit high notes as well, almost for the sake of hitting the notes…you blew it away because you let us see that you NEED to sing it the way you do so that it touches our hearts and souls. Your vocal range staggers the mind. You are simply incredible…take that from a JCS snob…unbelievable brother!

For instance, I would have never cast John Legend in the role of Jesus Christ in the live version. I suspect that was done to appeal to a younger audience.

I just held my breath for 5:43 seconds. Has Andrew Lloyd Webber heard this??? I feel like this was meant to be performed by a metal/opera singer, no one ever has done this song justice like that !!! And I’ve heard them all, I eat, breathe, sleep JCS, and this song is sooooo deep. And Dan brought it all out. What a performance ❤❤❤❤ whole body goosebumps. As someone who grew up with and was deeply moved by the original Jesus Christ Superstar, who knew every song, sang along with and cried along with most of them, and played many on the piano, I am blown away by Dan's performance. I didn't think anyone could sing this song better than Ted Neely, but Dan took it to a new level. Vocally and emotionally, Dan outdid him in every way.

Why, oh why, is Dan Vasc not headlining on Broadway, or being celebrated in opera, or just plain world famous for his amazing voice and mega-talent?

Oh, Dan. In one song you depict the complexity of what happened at Gethsemane. A man, faithful and aware, but also God. The sometimes dreadful consequences of obedience. Confusion and conviction. Not a manger scene with a plump baby. Crucifixion, physical and mental. All the dashboard crucifixes and glow in the dark crosses have made mockery of it, but it was a bleak and bloody business. Your rendition: breath-taking.

Good God man!!!!! You could sing the freakin phone book and make it sound incredible. You Sir, have a huge new fan here. This 68 year old is totally in awe!!!!

It is the most incomparable and gut wrenching most amazing and powerful I have ever experienced anyone performing and I'm certain it will not be surpassed.

I saw Jesus Christ Superstar and was totally transfixed by Ted Neely singing this song. I never thought anyone could beat that performance. I sat, breathless and had chills, during this performance. It is stunning. You did it......wow! Just truly the most powerful perfornance I've EVER seen!

I dont think I'll see a better performance of Gethsemane. The vocal performance is exceptional, Ive come to expect that from Mr Vasc,..but this is an absolutely poignant Christ,.. a Son, speaking to his Father,.. rebelling, and angry, scared, and yet still trying to please his parent. The juxtaposition of duty and fear, doubt, and even a little self pity,.. were just a perfect blend. The acting expression was, again, precise, amazingly timed, and all done whilst delivering a belter of a vocal. This gentleman just keeps raising the bar...

I saw the movie with Ted Neely in the part of Jesus the year the movie was released. Although I was raised as a Christian and knew the story of Jesus, but watching the movie on a massive movie screen and hearing the music shook me to my core. Looking back on how much it affected me, I was probably too immature to have seen it at that time in my life. If you haven’t seen the movie, please do so. Just remember that the movie was released in 1973. I have to say, Dan singing this song has shook me again!!! Just stunning! 😮 I love his vocals. ❤ ❤ ❤

In spite of the fact that ALW decided that Jesus didn't know why he was chosen to sacrifice Himself (He absolutely did!), the powerful agony and emotion showed by our Lord during the night before his betrayal in this song is scriptural. What a stunning rendition by this gifted artist!

WOW...! I was hesitant to watch this, because I thought this play would be sarcastic and not respectful to our LORD Jesus. I am a Christian, and I didn't want to hear anything portraying Jesus badly... but today, I finally watched it, and I am relieved to hear it is respectful, and Dan does a great job of portraying the intense, multi layers of emotions that Jesus must've felt.... After all, He is GOD spirit in a human man's body. He felt ALL of our emotions, and felt fear, terror, pain, agony, etc. Could ANY one of US have sacrificed ourselves like he did? why isn't this guy a superstar already? This made me cry. Jesus in the garden, just like we all are at times, begging for a different outcome, then accepting, knowing the Father, in His love for us, knows what we really need.

I saw this original play in San Francisco years ago in the 70s ...since then no one has come close to the original with Ted Neely . Now, Dan Vasc has achieved beyond the original in voice with an awesome range and exceptionally realistic dramatic execution using the "original" instrumental background.

Um if he sings musical theater or is interested in it. Or just badass vocals. I see hes primarily a metal singer but loves all music. Why wouldn't he show his range. Of course a great singer would know great vocal songs. My daughter is 15 and knows the musical. So what? She loves all types of music and vocalists not really amazing.
