Get to Know Your Vehicle at 4x4 Practice Area - Gorman / Hungry Valley SVRA

Ойын-сауық

Hungry Valley aka Gorman is a great place to get to know your vehicle. We were invited by the Crossoverlanding Group from ‪@JonDZ_Adventuring‬ to play around at the 4x4 Practice area. In this video we feature 4 of the obstacles. There are just too many features in Gorman to fit in a single video. Appreciate ya for coming along for the ride.

Plenty of campsites, though not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Recent years the crowds play music at night, do donuts near camp, etc. Definitely a place to get out and hit trails/practice but not a place for getting away into nature. Course is very easy to find! As for exact location I'm afraid I don't have coordinates on hand but it is not a far drive from either entrances. Upon entry, you'll be a given a map in case you get lost. GX rock man! Actually, locking the center diff or engaging 4wd part time (mechanically locking the front and rear driveshafts together) creates a dynamic torque bias not 50:50. 50:50 means even, same, what one has the other gets... it can be 0:0, 5:5, 1000:1000. An open differential is 50:50 meaning that one wheel requires the other to have resistance for it to generate torque... When you lift a wheel, that wheel no longer has resistance (without the brakes intervening) and thus the other wheel gets an equal amount of torque (0). With a locker, one wheel gets 0 torque while the other (grounded wheel) generates as much torque as the ground can resist or the drivetrain can develop (whatever is lower), thus a locker is a dynamic torque split. . Power is torque and RPM combined. You can have wheelspin (RPM) without torque = no HP and stalled wheel (0RPM) with all the torque in the world = no power. So neither an open diff nor a locker distribute power evenly, as an open diff has varied rpm with equal torque and a locker has equal rpm with varied torque. . I made a video to demonstrate this. Essentially I have a torque driver set to one wheel unlocked then locked, when unlocked you can see that as I increase the resistance on the opposite wheel the torque driver indicates more torque, but when locked it doesn't require resistance from the other wheel and all the torque flows through that torque driver. . Think of a torque wrench and how you can wave it around and it won't click, but hook it to something that can provide the resistance then it will click. Torque can't just be developed, it needs resistance. Lockers will always distribute as much torque as each wheel locked together can support before any wheel will lose grip. An open diff is like two glasses of water with a straw connecting them at the bottom. One requires the resistance of the other to build its water level.

@@solarinsocal6025 the bld is slowwwwww to react that’s the problem. It takes forever to kick in. So I’m a situation where you’re on a high grade you are obligated to use lockers.
