Boa imperator is the species name just as Boa constrictor. The subspecies names would be Boa constrictor constrictor or Boa constrictor occidentalis. There was a recent change that moved imperator from a subspecies of Boa constrictor to a separate species.

R.A.D. House Thanks for the info! I know taxonomy changes fairly often I’m not surprised I misspoke. I’ve updated the description to hopefully clarify it

How old is your Guyana? I have a six year old Suriname and she is stunning! She has amazing head markings, a purplish background color and a deep dark red tail! A bit cage aggressive and nervous when I first get her out, but she calms down after a minute or so. Love her tons even though she can be a pain when first interacting with her. Thanks for the video!

Not sure how old she is since she came in as an adult rescue but she is at least 9. Any snake can be touchy in cage. Sev likes to run and is flighty but she doesn’t like to go back in once out either. She sounds beautiful and thanks for the view

@@JzsReptiles Ahh gotcha! My Suriname is much smaller, but I am slow growing her. Feeding her a large rat every four weeks. Many breeders say that BCC boas should have a conservative feeding schedule since their metabolism is slow and have a sensitive digestive system, so that is what I am doing and it is working perfectly! Looking forward to seeing more of your videos!

So I have a boa that is 6' I cannot post a picture of her but was told she was a solomon ground boa but built like a red tail but the tail isn't red at all

if it is a soloman island ground boa, it isnt a boa constrictor or imperator at all and belongs do a different genus called candoia, but if it is a "constrictor" it would most likely be an imperator

Are the longicauda’s semi arboreal like the BCC’s and BCI’s? Or are they more ground dwelling?

Really all BCs and BIs will climb if given the chance really. They probably won’t perch but they will take advantage of heavy branches and platform. Although I have heard Argentines don’t as much

A lot of people doubt science unfortunately also there is a thing with carpet pythons that they found 2 of the different sub species, jungles and I think it was Darwin’s but I could be misremembering, are the exact same based on DNA, and a lot of die hard carpet fans, technically accept it but not really and it’s similar with boas

Got to say I was with you until you called specific breeders snobby, who are you? Have you put years of work into established lines of these animals so we can have them today? Or better yet some of these animals are endangered and its blasphemous to breed an endangered species in my opinion to anything else than unrelated stock of the same local and subspecies. Its actually more dangerous to breed normal and mixed because like dogs they are more likely to get abandoned or have improper care because of the price tags you have to sell them for. That's if you dont end up having to keep all the babies, most of them end up in rescue centres if they are lucky.

@@jamesstenning9390 I was implying that some people, (because they are people), think themselves better somehow for whatever projects they are working on. I can see how it seemed like I was picking on one versus another, but I was trying to point out something that happens with people in whatever hobby or group. It’s actually a term I heard used by one boa breeder in the past, who bred for one line of Suriname BCCs and several Imperarter morphs. The same thing happens with Green Tree Python breeders between the individual locals & subspecies and the “designer” breeders. Both are fine and share the same want to producing animals they think are wonderful I do apologize that it seemed like I was attacking anyone in the hobby. That’s why I don’t like so many other “personalities” because that’s what they do and get popular for it. I will never negatively call out a person in the hobby; I may bring them up in a conversation of one method vs another, how they have shown growth or similar. The only way I would is if they repeatedly did something that negatively effects how people see these beautiful animals like free handling venomous or continually showing dirty or unhealthy enclosures. (Poop happens) even then probably not by name. That being said, I appreciate the view and criticism. I’m always trying to improve and not just straight bashing helps me do that
