Yeah dude it’s kinda crazy that we even have an option like this now. Like would always just hear how Arri can detune their lenses for the top DPs.. and now we can do it ourselves, while using AF haha

@@cammackey THIS!!! If you are shooting Oppenheimer or Elvis, you can get the ARRI/Panavision guys to do a custom detuning. And that's cool, we are lens love agnostic. BUT, with the Tuners, you have the literally best designer in cinema history (13x Academy Award winner Iain Neil) creating looks at a price point less than a mid-priced zoom lens. Detuning is a giant pain and a lot of smoke and mirrors. Randomly shifting lens groups around to try and create aberration is total hit and miss, inconsistent and also limiting. With the V-Tune Ring, the lens type/focal length, and the F/# stop you have WAY more power and control over your images that the A listers get from the big Cine brands. We had to start with EF / Mirrorless to get something in the market, to appeal to everyone who shoots EF on a speed booster. But the harder stuff is coming. We are like the Penn and Teller of lenses. We create the mysterious detuned looks without black magic.... just predicable design..... by the guy who invented many of the looks used on THOUSANDS of features....... We could easily have started with 25K PL prime lenses with tuning built in, but we wanted to bring this tech to EVERYONE, and not just the elites. But rest assured, those products are also coming. It's a great time to be creating!

a really cool lens that gives you a similar effect is the Contax Zeiss 28mm f2.0. I've had a copy of this lens with really strong field curvature. With this you have to choose if you want your corners to be in focus or the middle of the image. It works really well for portraits, even though 28mm is pretty wide. Goes from 45mm up to 105mm on a FX3 / FX6 (4:3 on that sensor is basically 4 perf S35). The FVD24 isn't really made for longer focal lengths so anything above 90mm needs to be stopped down 1.5stops though. No it’s not haha. I love front anamorphics, but they’re a hassle. You have to make sure it’s perfectly align. You have to make sure they won’t shift with a focus motor attached. You have to make sure it’s secure to your taking pens. You have to make sure your taking lens stays locked at initiate. You have to make sure the weight is support with rails. Then when you change your lens… you have to do all of that all over again. VS just slapping an autofocus lens on to an adapter. It’s night and day. I’ll do a video soon on front anamorphics, but I just rather shoot anamorphic primes honestly.
