Get Started in Electronics #1 - Elegoo Arduino Uno Super Starter Kit

Ғылым және технология

Hello 3D Printing Friends! Today we'll take a look at the Elegoo Super Starter Kit, which Elegoo sent me, free of charge.
Let’s take our first tentative steps into the worlds of electronics and coding for the Arduino Uno! This is the smaller sibling to the Arduino Mega, which forms the basis of the RAMPS boards found in so many 3D printers.
We’ll start by getting the Arduino Integrated Development Environment installed on the computer, and then we’ll write a little bit of code to blink one of the LEDs built into the Uno.
Future episodes in this series will see us combining basic electronics and code, and as we gain experience, we can make ever-cooler things!

As an advance programmer, I came here to just see what the kit has to offer, but the way you teach and explain is so comforting in a word, I understood and digested everything you said and I wanted to know what you were talking about. Ik what you were going to teach, but I stayed because it was just so fun hearing you explain.

This is wonderful, thank you! I had to purchase the kit for a show control class but we don't start up 'till next week (in a currently-unknown remote-learning-only situation) & I was super excited to get going. I had read through some of the guides but having someone actually explaining and showing you as your go is SUPER helpful.

You are absolutely correct about the benefit of actually typing the code yourself and playing with it a bit, I had already programmed in an SOS message in Morse code before you suggested it so that made me chuckle. I'm just trying to get into electronics at the young age of 42 and like your teaching style so far.

One comment I have, I used this in November of 2021, and the Arduino Genuino is no longer listed as one of the tools in the drop down. it is now named Arduino Uno, and it seems to work just fine. Awesome! I'm about five episodes into the series so far. The next few are still "exploratory missions" covering the basics of some of the components. But as you gain experience with them, you can combine them in fun and interesting ways. For example, switches can be used with either LEDs or buzzers (or both), to make simple alarms to alert you when a door or drawer has been opened. Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the series. Interesting to hear the history of RAMPS. Especially since I got this kit off Black Friday for £25, buying it on a hunch and thinking about using it in a similar way to how 3D printers use them (though probably for something much smaller, like a pen printer (or drawing machine, as some call them) or a mini-CNC. I did not look specifically for 3D printer channels, I came across this video just looking for info on the kit itself. Funny how life works sometimes.

Awesome beginners guide Bryan. I've been playing with Arduinos of all sizes for years, many other types too. I have at least 10 spares of varying types all the time. No self respecting nerd should be without spare micro controllers. You were right, I had no idea that Elegoo did this stuff too, I'll be keeping a closer eye on them in the future.

Hi Spike, and thanks! I've got some really old Arduinos that were serial-only. They're about the size of a Nano. 🤓
