    A helpful note for those new to collecting or selling postcards: the RPPC stamp box dating guidelines are super helpful for the “circa” identification, but it’s not an exact science. Must keep in mind that those date ranges are just the period of time that the photo postcard paper was produced by that manufacturer. Photographers could use their stock of postcard paper after that paper was no longer produced. That said, I don’t know what the shelf life of that type of photo paper was. And those date ranges give us a starting point for the right decade. Thanks for an informative video. With that sell thru rate, I need to get my few snow skiing cards listed. - Ashli of Mailbox Memories Postcards

    Good, bad, or indifferent- you have taught me ( the accidental Guru 😅) how to buy, sell, and store postcards. 😊 My storage system is numerical ( actually , I use your numbered tag rolls from Ko-Fi.). I will continue to do so. I put continental, standard, and even ephemera ( advertisements, trading cards, die cuts etc…) that fits to in same box. I can always find what I’m looking for.

    I do put standard and continental in the same box... but I do try to list in chunks of standard or chunks of continental, just speeds the process of finding orders for me. - Christopher

    I don't buy very many continental cards so I just put them in with the standard ones, when I scan my postcard I have set up my scanner to give the file a sequential number and that is the sku number that it will be given on ebay, this makes it easy to find the correct picture when I am listing, I think just using a number on the postcard and not naming rows and boxes etc is better as you can easily condense your stock and it wont mess your sku system up

    I only favorite sellers that have both integrity (indicated from generally high feedback ratings. Packaging in a way that ensures the item arrives securely) and as well as a good selection. I may fall out of postcards for 3,4,5,6 months at a time but I always come back as its a more affordable collectable. When I come back I go through my favorites and do business with those sellers again. For me, to sellers, I may not buy anything from you for a year but when I finally do come back I end up dropping $80 $100 in one order just on postcards. I'm just a collector but I hope my views on it give at least a little perspective.

    Your channel has definitely helped with your followers. The main reason why I don’t talk about my store specifically is that I don’t want followers who don’t buy. I like to keep my data as pure as possible because I am a big-time numbers fiend. Even though I don’t share my store, I’m happy to still share best practices in the community. I will say that I am in the top tier of your poll, and I sell about 40 units per day. But I probably won’t get to 1000 followers until the end of 2025 or longer, so I’m way behind you in that category. When anyone connects me to my store, I beg them not to follow me unless they buy! My nicer sales have been featured on this channel quite a few times. 😂

    How do you think have having followers messes with your sales data? I remember watching some KZreadrs say that wouldn't share their eBay stores because they believed having people look at your store but not buy affects your store in the eBay algorithm. I wonder if that trues or how to track that.

    @@joemechanicc That’s only for eBay to know for sure, but I do know they tell us our click-thru and conversion rates, and when people scroll and don’t click, or click and don’t buy, those numbers, by definition, drop.

    Yes, eBay use to allow you to see who your "Followers" were. Plus, they would display the number of views you got from each mailing, which for me at that time was about 3%. I think for direct email campaigns 1 to 3 percent is a good number. I also think you could see their real email address. The good old days...

    I am up to 58 followers right now. I think just consistently listing topics you know people are interested. I have some buyers who are interested in specific dogs, so I look for those dogs when I am sourcing.

    Love, love Holiday cards! Christmas actually sells well and rather quick for me, but I also have a following and I get postcards from Europe as I live in Portugal. Those made in Germany sell better as Germany was the créme-de-la-créme in printing before WWI.

    I’d love for you to discuss the differences between collotype postcards and RPPCs! You see both being produced at the turn of the century and they can be difficult to distinguish between since both are continuous tone images (not halftones).

    That comment about followers getting email notifications near the end, I don't think that's true and/or must be based on your notification settings. . I follow most of the youtube resellers just to see what they are up to, and I don't get a single email about their new listings. It's really just something I go to when I'm bored waiting around, and see what is popping up orif I want to see what has been selling good this week. I didn't answer the poll but I currently have 60 followers so in the more common bucket there.

    Thank you for a good video. Wondering why eBay does not inform stores who the followers are? We could cater to followers specifically and increase sales. Also, what is considered a "troll" on the interweb?🤔 Have a great week.

    I've been listing postcards for about a year and a half, now. I notice you price a lot of your cards at 4.75. When I do comps, I notice a lot of the cards I'm looking to list are already listed by others for rather low prices, such as $3.00, $2.75, or even $1.75. Do you even try to compete with these, by posting a like card for $4.75, or do you just move to the next one?

  • @SMPostcards

    @SMPostcards

    I have a set margin I need for the cards I list, and right now my starting number is 4.75 I do not try to compete with all the lower cards even if they are the same card. There are 8-10 million postcards listed on eBay at any given time I would be exhausted if I tried. At 4.75 I can still send offers and it also allows for Volume discounts with multiple card purchases. Building a good reputation as a good seller is one of the things that will help people to continue to buy from you even tho there are cheaper versions of that card out there. With Postcards I do not turn over my inventory like new goods etc. They are collectibles and most are long tail. Hope this helps
