Get Slim the Pathé Way! (1958) | Vintage Fashions

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

“Want to slim? Then eat fat!” This 1958 film shows that Dr. Atkins wasn’t the originator of the ‘fat’ diet. It also shows that the human race, especially women, have always tried to control their weight through diet.

Roll forward to today and all those ideas still hold true. We were just told by doctors in the 1980s that to eat healthy meant plenty of starch, carbs, fibre, carbs, starch, etc, etc, etc. No wonder we all got fat!

Even back then there was weight loss gimmicks. The stretchy machine? the vacuum cup thing? the slimo pills? all you need to lose weight is a good diet and or exercise.

To those of us around in the 50s this wasn't revolutionary! Our moms & grandmothers knew that if they wanted to lose 10lbs for a special occasion they just gave up bread, potatoes & sweets for a couple weeks. Where I grew up nobody ate much pasta except for mac&cheese but they didn't eat it when dieting. It worked every time and what's even more astonishing is that you almost never saw actual fat people back then. Yes there were some but they were a rare exception. It amazes me that there are still people who don't realize that the whole "fat & cholesterol cause heart disease" conundrum was never established or proven by science. Over the past 50 years the powers that be desperately tried to prove it was true many, many times and failed repeatedly. BigFood & BigPharma benefited greatly from convincing consumers & policy makers in the gov. to eat low fat, high carb processed crap! I've been living LCHF (low carb high fat) for almost 15 yrs. It saved my life. Aside from weight loss the main benefit is improved health markers (blood work) I've watched friends become sicker and even die because they wouldn't make the changes to their diet while I got healthier. They take/took more & more meds & I no longer take any. It breaks my heart.

There is a huge difference between saturated and unsaturated fat, promoting high fat diet for weight loss is only beneficial if it is the RIGHT kind of fat!

@@melodyharmony6175 YES, but when this video was made in the 1950s, most foods that were available were just natural foods that contained natural fat such as fruits, vegetables, and ordinary meats that were not treated or processed in any way like they are today. That's why the doctor in this video just said that you can eat fat. He did not have to distinguish between saturated fat, because there were fewer processed foods, and they were consumed less frequently and did not contain that much saturated fats.

I've always hated bread, noodles, beans and potatoes. I could never eat the crust of a pizza, only the toppings. Everyone assumed that I was just naturally skinny and I did too, but I guess it was my diet.

Everyone is leaning on keto but really if you are eating 70 percent of veggies 20 of meat and fat and ten perfect of fruit you should be extremely healthy.

My doctor told me it's a fad diet when I told her I was on a ketogenic diet lol. Eating that way (mostly) for 2 years. Never hungry and have to remember to eat. Eating bread, potatoes etc makes me feel sick, bloated and drowsy. There was only one fat person I knew growing up in the 50's and 60's but now there's hundreds fatter than that lady everywhere!

Yes, and the good thing in the video was what the writer told about "new foods" making us more fat and unhealthy and how people should eat, That is what all keto-docs say: start eating whole food again, with a bit more fat in it and enough protein than you will become slim and healthy again. And it is true, more than ever: this processed food made us all ill the one way or another and that's why so many have diabetes and other civilization illnesses or are very big.

That’s so wild!! The crap they put in our food is why everyone is so fat. Even skinny people are skinny fat. Corn studio, sugar in bread, so many crappy pesticides and preservatives. They say that micro plastics from shampoo bottles, plastic bottles, etc can cause weight gain because the micro plastics cause fat cells to enlarge. There is a peer reviewed study that just came out and it makes a lot of sense!!
